I received the DX in July, a couple of days before my birthday. It was a struggle and a challenge—fast forward a few months.
I have taken four road trips. I traveled with my husband and knocked off a bucket list item we had that I kept saying I was too busy to do for the last few years. I spent a couple of weeks with my in-laws. I slept through most of it due to the mastectomy recovery. Afterward, I met them out of state for some flea market shopping. I traveled with my girlfriends on a camping and flea market shopping trip. I will go back to spend time with my in-laws for Christmas after radiation. We are hosting Thanksgiving at my house this year since travel is limited during radiation (something I said every year is way too much work to do). I have a road trip planned in January with my girlfriend. My husband and I are going to the Islands next year after my reconstruction. I figured I'd want an even set of boobs before putting a swimsuit back on. We are working on a road trip to Alaska next year. We are looking at sailboats too—no time like the present to learn how to sail a boat. I put in my first-ever order for a pretty red sports car. I hope she is fast!
I realized through this process that I did everything I was supposed to do.
- I built a career.
- I raised my kids.
- I didn't travel to keep $ in the bank for a rainy day.
- I loved my husband but did not truly appreciate who he was.
Thanks to that CRAP DX—I am living. Every. Single. Day.
