Hi Everyone,

I'm a first time poster. I was diagnosed on Feb 16 (IDC and DCIS), just about 3 weeks ago. I am 34, had my first (and only) child at 25 (a good age as far as reducing ones risk of breast cancer is concerned), nursed her for 2 years and two months (great for reducing my bc risk), I have never been a smoker, I very rarely drink alcohol, I am slim-average (5'6", 130 lbs.), and there is no history of ANY cancer on either side of my family. Sure, I have a few risk factors: I don't exercise, I have dense breasts, and I'm a woman - but this still smells fishy to me. I am particularly wondering about a medication (that is not FDA approved in the US) I used to increase my milk supply while I was nursing - Domperidone. I have googled Domperidone and breast cancer, but haven't found anything linking the two or other women who took it and now have breast cancer. Anybody out there who has taken Domperidone and subsequently gotten cancer? I'm also wondering your opinions/thoughts on BC and karma (a response from God or the universe or whatever non-physical energy to some past indiscretion) and/or BC because of unresolved emotional wounds, anxiety, depression, etc. Anyway, I would love to hear your thoughts and your stories. Thanks!

I have read, and do believe, that childhood abuse is related to cancer diagnosis. In fact, childhood abuse is associated with increase risk for many chronic illnesses. It is probably related to prolonged stress, cortisol having a negative impact on the immune system.

No karma. No one deserves this. I'm sure that we would all agree - I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

I took bucketfuls of domperidone for milk production for years (nursed for 4). If there really is an association I’m placing my bets on it.

My left breast was affected which happened to be my son’s favorite side for nursing. And without a doubt the tumor must have started growing while I was nursing him (had him at 38, dx at 47 - 7cm ILC).

Hi Amelia01,

I know they don't usually start mammograms until women are well in to their 40s but did you have any screening before then. How was it diagnosed? How are you doing

Hi Christine,

I had a cyst for a few years in a different quadrant of the same breast. I had it monitored (only ultrasounds) over the years and was always told it was nothing. I never thought to request a biopsy. In May 2016 I had another control and I told the breast specialist that I had an itchy spot on the same breast in a different location and that I was concerned about the density of the breast. He told me it was totally NORMAL for breasts to become dense with age. He did his ultrasound and sent me on my way. I had a mammogram done in May 2017 which should everything all fine. In October 2017 I knew things weren't fine and an ultrasound picked up on the suspect area which was confirmed to be a problem only via 3d mammo.

How can I not wonder if the doctors had had a minimum of suspicion or adequate knowledge of ILC to suggest that I do controls years prior what my situation would be like today....

Hi. I was also recently diagnosed with IDC and DCIS in my right breast. I took Domperidone 3 years ago to help increase breast milk supply. I have been wondering myself if the medication could have contributed to development. I am a bit older at 50 (I had my baby at 46), and I am now overweight after I gained 50 lbs while taking the medication that I have not been able to lose yet. I don’t smoke, rarely drink, and have no genetic predisposition according to my genetic test results. I reported my diagnosis to the FDA site medwatch because I am wondering if this is an unknown risk with taking this medication. I took it knowing about the reported cardiovascular risks but there was no known increased risk for breast cancer or I would never have taken it. I waited so long for my baby and now I’m so scared I might leave him motherless.

It makes me wonder if it is the domperidone, or maybe it's an underlying condition, related to low milk supply (which is why people take domperidone) which might cause the cancer?

I breastfed for 6 years total-- never took domperidone-- and was gobsmacked to be diagnosed w cancer! I thought for sure I'd taken my risk into negative numbers by all that breastfeeding!

We always try to understand the reason why and while this is normal we should not beat ourselves up about it. I had my first child at 32 and second at 36. Breastfed both. I was on a contraceptive pill for 10years + in between and often wonder if that was the cause. Did BRCA testing and that was negative, I'm fairly active and mostly healthy.
