Hi esm,

I'm copying and pasting what I posted on the other thread. I think it works for your comment too.

I am brca+. My little sis who had bc 9 yrs ago got tested after my bc dx and she too is +. My older sister who had uterine and cervical cancer 2 yrs ago is negative. My other sister has yet to be tested.

We all have the same mom and dad.

I have 9 neices 18 or younger. So far, 3 have been tested. 2 positive, one negative. The negative one, 16 yrs old, has already had a scare with something on her ovaries. Thank God, it was not cancer.

Honestly, I don't think any of this matters really. I believe cancer is a part of our make up as a human being. (A doctor (onc) told me that when I was on a plane going to see my little sis after her dx.)  Whether or not it rears it's ugly head is a crap shoot.

I wish you the best of luck.

Trip Neg BRCA + If I never look behind me, my troubles will be few. Supertramp. Dx 2/12/2007, IDC, 6cm+, Stage IIIB, Grade 3, 0/14 nodes, ER-/PR-, HER2-

Esm, I too was nervous when waiting for my results. Just remember one thing: right now, before you have that sheet of paper, you either are or you are not BRCA+. YOu are no different than you were before you were tested.

Obviously you either have a personal or family history of cancer, so that is information you already have and have been living with. So thats not going to change. If you are negative- great. But that doesn't mean that you are 100% in the clear as we all know. If you are positive, well now you have this knowledge , and with knowledge there is power. You will have power to change your destiny. How many people can say that? They can genetically test for LOTS of diseases for which there is nothing preventitive you can do. We are "lucky" in a sense because we CAN GREATLY REDUCE OUR RISK!!  The other 90% of women who get breast cancer that is NOT the hereditary form have no warning, no heads up. It blindsides them and they have no opportunity to prevent it.Technology has improved greatly, both for screening for breast cancer (breast MRI with DynaCAD) and with preventative surgery. Sadly, the only thing that doesn't seem to have improved is ovarian cancer screening methods, but we can hope.

Remember to breathe. Deeply. It helps, and we are here for you.
