Did anyone else see the article about the link between your mother's hip size and breast cancer? Apparently, larger hip size means more estrogen which means an increased risk in the daughter. Chalk one more up on my list! Mom (and I) both have wide hips.

Well, that's another factor that says I shouldn't have gotten cancer. I have broad shoulders and relatively narrow hips and I'm loaded with estrogen! I had my children young, breastfed them for ever, had a low fat diet, etc etc and I still got it!

But that doesn't mean there may not be some truth in the link - who knows? It just seems like a bit of a lottery to me.

I didn't see the paper, but I certainly have wide hips as did my mother. My hips are so wide, my PE teacher in high school made a comment to this effect in front of the entire class. It didn't do wonders for my self confidence.

OMG - what a crock!  Let me see, my mom had narrow hips and thighs (but a large abdomen), my sister has always had narrow hips and thighs (no abdomen and a nice bust line), and then there is me - I have WIDE hips -  way out of proportion to the rest of me, had no chest at all, little abdomen and let's see - Mom and sister had BC multiple times (Mom died from BC mets) and I had NO BC (thank you Lord) but was 98% positive on getting BC - so having a PBM/recon was a total nobrainer for me.  But it appears our family got it backwards - the skinny hipped ones got it and me with the wide hips didn't!  Every day there is something else about all this - what our body shape is, what diet we follow, family history etc - wonder if they will ever figure it all out so people can truly avoid BC - or any kind of cancer for that reason - Sheesh!  Cindie

I always heard narrow hips indicated a possibility for ovarian cancer.  "Wives Tales" in my opinion.

Big hips...lots of babies.

How else would there be so many humans on the planet?

Do wide hips sink ships, or do cookies crumble loose lips? lol
