Hi I have a strong history of breast cancer in my maternal family. And we r BRACA 1 Positive .

2days back I felt a hard lump in my inframammary fold of right breast. Without wasting any time I checked with my gyne and she suggested me a sonomammography. Which resulted in BIRADS5. Now waiting for FNAC done soon after meeting an oncologist.

Very Difficult ssituation because I

am 35 weeks pregnant and have no idea what to do.

Is there any hope for me to be in those 5% lucky people.

Naina, I’m so sorry you find yourself here when this is supposed to be a happy time in your life. I say have Hope... there’s always hope. Albeit not many, there have been a few on here that’s had a Birads 5 turn out to be benign. You just never know. Cancer definitely knows no boundaries.

Let’s look on the bright side.. your baby is almost full term. IF you had to have any type of treatment, you won’t have to worry about the baby. And, bc treatment has come a long way.

Whatever it is, we are all here for you. Please come back and let us know. When Is the biopsy?

I was diagnosed at about 30 weeks. Had a mastectomy at 34 weeks. I did the steroid shots in case I went into labor during the mastectomy. They had an ob team and neonatal team monitoring closely. Baby was ok. I delivered via csection at 37.5 weeks and started chemo three weeks later, after scans etc. I've since done chemo, radiation, as well as a prophylactic mx.

Let me know how I can help.

I found out I have BRCA2.

I was diagnosed last September (about 29-30 weeks pregnant), had my mastectomy in October at 34 weeks, while pregnant. I took steroid shots to help the baby's lungs develop, in case labor started early, but baby was fine. There was an ob team and a neonatal team in the operating room just in case. I did have some contractions after the surgery but they went away.

I recovered from the mastectomy then delivered the baby at 37 weeks via csection. I was able to nurse baby for about a week from my other breast (also supplemented with formula).

About ten days later I had to do a ct scan, bone scan, and an echocardiogram. I weaned baby completely before these scans bc I was given radioactive dyes.

In late November, Three weeks after the baby was born, I started chemo. 8 infusions total, every two weeks.

I also decided to get my other breast removed as a preventative measure, but I did that after recovering from chemo. I also had to do six weeks of radiation.

What are your doctors recommending?

PS: My chemo was 4 infusions of adriamycin and cytoxin and 4 infusions of taxol. I was given antinausea and anti-allergy medications to help me, and the side effects were not too bad. I was tired after each infusion and achy after the taxol, but very minimal nausea. Do you have people who can help you and the baby?

Hi Naina,

I'm very sorry to hear that you are dealing with a BC diagnosis at the same time as you are expecting your little one. I was in a similar position, although earlier in my pregnancy back in 1998 when I was diagnosed with Stage iiB, grade 3 infiltrating ductal carcinoma as well. I am also BRCA1 positive (which I didn't know until 15 years later). I'm hear to tell you that my lovely daughter is now 20 and I went through chemo and rads when she was six weeks old. You definitely are going to need extra child care to get through the first six months. But I can also tell you that the joy of having a baby helped me through it. Unfortunately, I did have cancer a second time, but I'm five years out from that, and twenty one years past my first bout. I have no evidence of cancer today and am living a happy and healthy life.

I hope the very best for you and your family and I hope that your child will be the balm for you that it was for me. While it is scary and it's not what you would want, I'm hear to say you can get through it and having that bundle of joy will help. I got pregnant a second time, even after chemo, and I also have a healthy 14 year old son.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and I'm sending you healing thoughts and good wishes for your delivery as well.

Deb
