I was diagnosed with ADH in August 2018. Did lumpectomy with 6-month monitoring since. Every mammogram and ultrasound after the surgery came back with no concerns. My doctor moved me to annual schedule after the mammogram last November. A few months ago, I started having pain in my armpit, upper left shoulder blade (the ADH side) and pain just above my breast and just under collarbone. The pain will go down my arm with tingling and pins & needles feelings in my fingers. Originally, I thought I might have strained some muscles, but the situation has not improved. I think I can feel a lump (not sure if I am just overly sensitive and am just imagining it) just above my left breast and under the collarbone. I am wondering if this lump and the pain that I have been feeling is something that I should be very concerned about or if I am just thinking too much. Anyone who was diagnosed with ADH ended up getting breast cancer later?

I don't know about ADH to cancer Elsa.... I'm hoping you've either conveyed this to one of your docs or will call to schedule... May or may not be related to BC though important you get it checked out regardless of what it is..... Please let us know...

My initial diagnosis after biopsy was ADH which led to an excision biopsy which revealed IDC. The odds of an upgrade from ADH to IDC are pretty low (~20%?). There are others on here with far more knowledge than I. Best to follow up with your doctor.

Not to scare you but I came out of a needle biopsy in June with an ADH diagnosis. Had the excision biopsy/lumpectomy and it turned out to be triple-positive IDC. My surgeon told me she thinks the needle biopsy just missed it and got right next to the lump instead of in it.

I'm back on this merry-go-round right now. After 2.5 years of Aromasin and 6-month follow-up and imaging after excision of a 7 mm cluster of ADH in May 2018, I was cleared in November 2020 to go back to annual imaging. However, I found a lump on my breastbone about 3 weeks ago. Of course my breast surgeon was on vacation, because summer, and they sent me to my primary, who confirmed that she felt it as well as some additional lumpiness I hadn't noticed (hey, great, more to worry about). Because of Covid, there was no stat imaging available, so I go tomorrow for diagnostic mammo and US.

Trying hard not to freak out, but last time there was nothing palpable; everything was discovered on imaging.

Good luck, ElsaJ, and I'll also take any positive vibes that anyone wants to send my way tomorrow!

@uneedaklu, your journey is almost identical to mine. I was diagnosed with ADH in June 2018 and did the lumpectomy in August 2018. Went through the 6-month regimen and was cleared in November 2020 to go back to annual imaging. Have pain under armpit, left should blade, etc. for about 3+ months (thinking I just pulled a muscle). Then about a month ago, felt a lump on my left breastbone. Went to see my PCP 2 weeks ago and he felt it also. Sent me to diagnostic mammo and US. Just did that today. Going back to PCP next Monday. Good luck with your mammo and US tomorrow.

I am a new user here and this is my first post. I was diagnosed with ADH after a needle biopsy in July 2021, I had a lumpectomy in August 2021. My oncologist recommended I start taking Tamoxifen. Did you take that too ? My breast surgeon said no need to take it and oncologist recomended I take it, so am conflicted now.

Welcome, new-survivor! We're so sorry you find yourself here, and we can't imagine how confusing it must be to receive conflicting recommendations from your doctors! Did either of your docs elaborate on their reasoning for taking it or not taking it?
