I have different side effects, but side effects nonetheless. I feel your pain and frustration. My side effects have gotten worse over time. I was originally slated to go 10 years, and now MO and I are talking about discussing this at the 5 year mark, because of quality of life issues. I'm not sure I can do more than 5. Maybe take it 6 months at a time after that?
Dx IDC in October 2016, stage 2A, 1.2 cm ER/PR+ Her2-, Grade 2, 1/3 nodes. Mammaprint low risk luminal A, Lumpectomy + radiation + tamoxifen. Age 38 at diagnosis.

Via- we have been on tamoxifen for about the same time period! I too understand your frustrations. My sleep in the beginning was horrendous, I would sleep 4 hours a night, nothing more. My emotions were all over the place but I basically ended most days in tears over how bad I felt! My MO then started me on Effexor. I sleep more than 4 hours a night now,but like you I wake several times a night. My fatigue has persisted since starting tamoxifen and has really affected my QOL. That along with this so called “brain fog” I consider every day just quitting!! The brain fog has affected how well I do my job and gets much worse if the fatigue is particularly bad. As far as periods go mine have gotten shorter and heavier and that is when I get the worst night sweats.
My MO has not mentioned anything beyond 5 years yet, but there is no way I will do 10. I am sorry you are struggling with these crappy side effects. Just not being able to sleep takes so much out of you, and you have the other side to deal with too! I just wanted to hop on and say I completely understand the struggle! All the best to you

Hi,
If your Tamoxifen side effects include in kind of abnormal bleeding, please see your doctor. I am 52 and pre-menopausal. I started having bleeding in between periods which I thought was a normal Tamoxifen side effect. I finally mentioned it to my MO who told me to stop the Tamoxifen immediately and referred me to a GYN.
Turns out I had a 6cm mass in my uterus that was endometrial cancer. I just had a hysterectomy 2 days ago and I wanted to come here and warn others taking Tamoxifen. Don't ignore any abnormal bleeding!
