Forum: Waiting for Test Results —

For members not diagnosed with breast cancer, but waiting for test results:  Biopsy, mammogram, ultrasound, or other screening tests. Waiting is VERY difficult but remember...

On Oct 29th I went for my usual 6 month ultrasound of my left breast. Have had this done for about 5 years and the spot never changed. This time I was informed that there is a new one, 1.3 cm, found in the lymph node. I have been referred to a specialist and my appointment is Dec. 2nd. I have also had a diagnostic mamo done a week ago with no calls regarding these results. November 7th was three years since my mother passed away from breast cancer. I am trying to stay positive in my thinking but her death is still fresh in my memory. Any ideas of how to get through this until a diagnosis can be made. All suggestions are encouraged.

Scarlettsue, iam 34 and  i too lost my mom little over 3 years ago to breast cancer. So i'm very sensitive and scared about this issue. I also had cancer scare last year when they had to do biopsy BIRAD 4 and it was B9 ! Here are very nice, supportive and informative ladies.

But i would just tell you to stay off the internet trying to research everything, its just gonna make you even more scared. That was my experience :-) Good luck and let us know. Praying for B9 results for you !

I am almost 40 and lost my mom 13 years ago to breast cancer.  I had an ultrasound of my left breast on November 2nd and it came back with abnormal suspicious tissue or Birad of 4.  I go in for a biopsy on the 17th.   Just keep yourself busy and if you are a religious person, read your bible and pray.  It has brought me tremendous peace.  Praying for B9 results for both of us....

I'm still waiting to have my biopsy performed, so I'm not waiting for results exactly yet. But I am waiting. I have no idea if any of these ideas will be helpful to you, but they're what I'm trying.

Things I've tried that seem to help:

  1. Going out to a really nice restaurant for dinner.
  2. Going to movies
  3. Reading light-hearted novels by favorite authors
  4. Fluffy magazines
  5. Cook something involved that sounds perfect for me (most recently a beautiful minestrone soup)
  6. Running
  7. Long walks in the woods with my husband and dog
  8. Yoga at a local studio
  9. Getting together with friends
  10. Limiting the number of difficult or stressful things I take on
  11. Getting my husband to do some of the things I'd usually do (esp making calls to medical people)

Things I haven't tried, but are on my list:

  1. Weave
  2. Knit an easy project while watching a favorite TV show
  3. Sudoku
  4. Blog about our summer vacation - so I can focus on something that was fun and remember it by writing about it

Things I'm limiting:

  1. I've only told 2 people in real life about this (besides medical people), so I don't have to deal with anyone else's feelings yet, or the "How are you DOING?" questions when I'd just burst into tears
  2. I try to learn just enough to be a competent patient at my next appointment...so I'm limiting how much I learn and how much time I spend researching.

So those are my lists. Maybe they'll spark some ideas in you that will fit you perfectly.

I am sometimes stressed and sometimes upset. Sometimes I start thinking about what ifs. But for right now I keep trying to focus on the next few weeks until I'll have results, and trying not to worry or plan for the time after that.

I hope that you get benign results and that you find peace during the time you're waiting.

All my best,
