edited October 2022 in Waiting for Test Results

Hello! I had to return to get more testing from my routine mammogram (3D this time). Results in my ultrasound report: 1.8 x 2.0 x 1.7 cm irregularly shaped, spiculated, hypoechoic, shadowing nodule in the 9:00 right breast 8 cm from the nipple. No suspicious lymph nodes are seen in the right axilla. I was happy about the lymph nodes and then I looked up what "spiculated" means, so now I'm very scared again. I have my biopsy scheduled in 5 days. Reading the posts on here give me a lot of hope! My mother had stage 4 post-menopausal breast cancer and lived for almost 16 years after diagnosis. I am praying that if it is malignant that it's contained to the breast - I feel I will be able to handle it pretty well. I'm 51 and married with 3 children. Talking to other people in the same situation is a great help to me.

Thank you. I hope that I can make connections with some other people in the same situation and feeling the same things.

I'm so sorry you are going through this very scary time. Waiting for procedures and tests, then the results, is the hardest part of any of this in my opinion.

My mass was also discovered during a routine mammogram. The next day I went in for an ultrasound which was followed up with a needle biopsy at the same time due to what they were seeing during the ultrasound. Although the size of my tumor was somewhat smaller, the words "spiculated", "irregularly shaped", and "hypoechoic" were also used to describe the mass as well as being classified a Bi-rads 4.

I hoped for the best; but was told by some medical people among my relatives that the findings at that point were worrisome. The next day I received the cancer diagnosis from the initial biopsy results. While not entirely surprised by the diagnosis at that point, it still was a shock mentally and emotionally.

I hope your results are not a cancer diagnosis.. Only the biopsy results can tell for sure even though the ultrasound is abnormal. Try to fill up your time until the biopsy and results with as many pleasant distractions as possible. Reading on the internet will serve no good purpose when you don't even know what the reality is yet. I wish you the best; and please know that you're always welcome to come here for support

Thank you for letting me know if your experience. With the help of some Ativan as well as discussions with other people who have had the same experience, I am prepared for what is to be. I'm sure I will be a bundle of nerves on Monday when I have my biopsy.

Manu14, how are things for you now? It looks like your cancer was in the early stage, as I hope mine will be if it is cancer. I run the gamut of feeling like a fighter, and then sink down to worrying about everything. One of my adult daughters is having a hard time with this, and I've been putting on the brave face for her. I have a great support system with family, friends and coworkers, so I know I'll have that going for me. It's such a whirlwind of emotions. Next Thursday (when they think I will have my results) can't come soon enough!

Well today at 11:00 is my biopsy. Hopefully the results won't take too long. If any pone reads this I would appreciate some prayers. If anyone else is having their testing today or getting results, I'm praying for you

Thank you so much. Ultrasound guided biopsy was painless. Doctor is pretty sure I have cancer but feels it has not spread to lymph nodes. I should hear from her in two or three days.

I'm glad you have the biopsy over with and that it wasn't too painful. I know you wish time could pass more quickly so that you could have the results. If it is indeed cancer, then seeing all the specialists and getting a plan in place will be a great help emotionally for you and your family.

You asked how I am doing now. In a few days it will be three years since my lumpectomy and I am glad to have passed that milestone. Physically, I am healthy and active and make it a point to exercise everyday. I do still have a seroma in my breast, but it is not painful and is gradually getting smaller. The doctors are not concerned about it. I am no longer taking anti-hormonals due to some toxic reactions I developed from them and my oncologist and I after much discussion are on the same page about that. Each case is different and many women do just fine with them.

Emotionally, I thought I powered through the first several months pretty well. It was when active treatment was over that I was surprised that I couldn't put thoughts of cancer behind me more quickly. I worried about recurrence way too much in spite of my favorable cancer profile. It seemed that I couldn't go very long without cancer dominating my thoughts. I should have been more patient with myself and realized that it all takes time to absorb. I am in a much much better place now emotionally. Life is good.

It sounds like you have a wonderful support system and I bet your daughter will be able to cope better and actually be a help once there is a plan. Even adult children have a hard time the first time they see their mother may not be 100% invincible.

Take care and please keep us updated

first see their mother isn't 100% invincible.

Manu14, thanks for your thoughtful reply. Now that I know it is most likely cancer I am very anxious to see the surgeon and oncologist to get everything started, and I know I need to slow down. I already know who I want to go to because I had a couple non-cancer related surgeries by an excellent surgeon who also operated on my mother, and also will be going to her oncologist. I'm very anxious about what type of cancer I have because, like you, I will probably worry about reoccurrence. The anti-anxiety medicine I am taking is helping me tremendously, otherwise I would be very scattered and unable to cope.

I'm glad you are in a good place and hope you continue to be well!

hi, your results sound like mine did. I had ultra guided ultra sound done pathology report came back in one day benign for malignancy and no atypia good news however I am still going to talk to breast surgeon to see if it should be removed so my chances of developing breast cancer in future will be less. This just takes over your life I cry now when I see a cancer commercial or something on Facebook where someone died of breast cancer but we gotta believe it's going to be ok either way I will be praying yours is benign too..... waiting and wondering is the hardest. If you need to talk my email is lindaerwin0217@ Gmail.com. God bless

Hi, I haven't been on this board for a while since my life turned a little upside down. It turns out that I have triple positive invasive lobular carcinoma. Since I am positive for the HER 2 receptor, I am going to have 6 rounds of chemo, then a double mastectomy, then Herceptin until around this time next year. I had my first chemo a week ago and felt great the first couple days, but then had flu-like symptoms and now am battling diarrhea. The good news is that though an MRI showed some lymph node involvement, I had another ultrasound and they were clear. Most likely reacting to my biopsy. Thanks for all of your prayers and well-wishes. I hope that all of you battling are doing well

Hi today I received a call that I needed to go back for a mammogram for a diagnostic for a better look for a possible spiculated Nodule. When I read it up on the Internet and I saw the word speculated I immediately got terrified because of the possibility of it being cancer I don’t even know what the results are and I’m already freaking out I need help I need someone to talk to. I go back in a week so they can do the test all over again plus a sonogram it could be nothing but yet I don’t know the radiologist just said “” possible” spiculated Nodule. 1.0 x 1.1 c

Waiting for tests and results is the worst! Try to distract yourself with fun stuff and hopefully the week goes by quickly. Also, this thread has not been active since 2016 so you may not hear from anyone who posted earlier about this.
