I'm due to have surgery in November and they will be doing a sentinel node biopsy.

I went through a short period of time when I was a teenager where I gained a lot of weight very quickly, and I lost it but I have a lot of loose skin in my arms.

I was wondering if anyone knows if this might be a risk factor for developing LE, because the loose skin creates a trough where fluid can easily pool.

Hmm, not sure. I think probably not but it's just a guess...I mean, your lymph nodes will either be compromised and struggle to work or it will be fine.

I recommend a baseline evaluation with a certified lymphedema therapist. Get initial arm measurements and monitoring. I did that and had quarterly measurements for a year. It was also good to learn what to do/not do, and now I have someone to call if something goes wrong.

WC3 - don't think that would have anything to do with it, but I'm no expert, I just live with Lymphedema. GREAT ADVICE from gb2115 - to me that is imperative!

Well I hope not as my arms are not for sleeveless dresses either. I had a sentinel node biopsy about 1 1/2 years ago and so far so good. Here's hoping. Polly

That's an excellent way to put it, lol. I did indeed spend an entire week looking for a dress to wear to my cousin's wedding that was not sleeveless.

I was hoping to use my arm flab for reconstruction but apparently it's not suitable because it doesn't have enough of a blood supply.
