I went for a check up with my radiation doctor today. I told her that I felt a bump on my side, like on top of one of my ribs. She went and got the surgeon and they determined that I have to have out patient surgery to remove it on Monday. She said that it is right outside of the radiation treatment area. If it is a lipoma, the surgeon will know right away, but if not, could it be another primary? She said don't worry, but we all know what that means!!  Now I am starting to think that the lump has been there for a while. I am freaking out, but don't want to tell my kids.

I freak out also and my doctor gave me some Ativan, it helps take the shakes away. Who knows what it is? What do you think it is?

Ileen - oh, I am so sorry you are going through this. Sending Hugs.

Try not to worry too much (yeah, right!) I know how scared you must be, but hopefully it is nothing to be concerned about. Radiation causes all sorts of strange things to happen to your body. And at least you are getting it removed really quickly. Try and do some fun things this weekend to take your mind off it.

Let us know how it goes on Monday.

I have  (had) a couple lipomas.. they are firm but not hard, rounded and elongated like flat footballs and freely move beneath the skin.. i think that is the most determining factor.. they are lumps of themselves and do not meld into other tissue.  I've had them for years.. one about 4 inches below my armpit just between my ribs and skin,  and the other was removed just by happenstance when I had my mastectomy.  they did biopsy the one that was removed and it was just a lipoma even tho it was on my 'bad' side.

hope that's what you have.  good luck.

Well, I had it removed and the Dr said it looked like a lipoma!!! I havent gotten the results back yet :( He also said that it could be from the radiation. This waiting really stinks, but I am hopeful!!!
