Hi... I finished chemo 7 months ago, I had no port. My veins resisted all IV chemo, surgery, scanners, blood tests, etc. 5 days ago I had my first CT scan after treatment and it was a hell to find a vein in good condition. Now I feel pain when I stretch my "good" arm. My question is for those of you who had "heavy" chemo years ago ... Have your veins healed or the damage is permanent? Thank you

I did my chemo without a port. I had pain you describe on the arm that I did all 16 infusions on. I went for PT on a non-related issue and when I told him about the achey type of pain, the guy released it in a few minutes working on it! Never asked him exactly what he did but the pain never came back.

I use my other arm for blood draws now.. not sure if my veins recovered. Something for me to investigate though!

Best wishes to you going forward!!

I was told the veins never recover due to scar tissue. They always have trouble finding a vein for blood draws, IVs, etc. I never experienced the pain you are speaking of but I do have the issues with finding a usable vein. With the scar tissue problem and I have small veins. They usually have to use a pediatric needle on me to be able to make it work. I always bruise terribly and that lasts for about a month.

After searching Google, I think my pain is due to a small leak of contrast fluid from my vein ... There is not much to do, just apply ice and take medication to solve the soreness. Thank you
