Sorry if this is in the wrong area. My DH is going to have some radiation to his bone mets and I wanted to hear what experiences you had; how long does a treatment take, etc....
Appreciate any info.

Appreciate the feedback. Guess I was thinking it was a one and done but sounds like it may be upwards of 15. Thank you again for taking time for the feedback.
Were the treatments weekly or ??
Hope things are going well for you; looks like you are 8 years out!

I’ve done rads twice, 32 first time, 28 second time. It’s Every.Single.Day. After whatever mapping they need, the actual treatment is about 10-15 minutes. He will be able to drive, but towards the end he will be tired.

I have had several bone radiated & mine have always been one & done. It's completely painless, I had a bit of nausea on the last one because it was my lower back. RO gave me a script for zofran which I took for 2 days. Otherwise I had no problems with other ones, like rib, upper arm & hip.

It sounds as if the number of sessions may depend on variable factors ; size of lesion, location etc, I’m sure info from the bone biopsy helps the ro create a plan. My lesion was 2 cm and completely identical to my breast tumor. Sessions were M-F for three weeks. The actual tx time was very short, not much longer than my 15-20 minute drive.

DH's treatment is palliative---help with the area that causes the pain. He is riddled with the bone mets so there's no attempt to eradicate it from his whole skeleton. No biopsy since they pretty much know it is eveywhere. Sigh.
Good to know the actual treatment is not time consuming. The drive will be 50 minutes one way but we can shop at a costco afterwards, so not a total time dump.

Sounds like my DH. Only he’s not going to do anything about an of them. He told our DD he didn’t know the bone Mets was from the prostate ca and may not believe it either. I’m stage IV and I think he’s going to have a bumpier ride than me.

Well, we survived the "meet/greet" ...2-1/2 hours. OY...and nothing really *done* to him.
We see them again on Monday for the mold/tattoo, etc...
Should have "only" 5 treatments and new scans will determine how many places so that bone can be strengthened by killing the cancer in weight bearing sites.
Anyone have any recommendations to prevent skin burn? Creams? before/after?
Thank you all again for sharing your experiences.

With 5 treatments shouldn’t burn. Can use unscented no alcohol aloe in areas. Aquaphor there. Ask RO for suggestions, most have their own preferences.

Thanks. He suggested Cerave or Cetaphil. Didn't mention before or after...I'll ask more questions tomorrow.
