Are there any preliminary results available on the TAILORx trial yet? When do you expect that data to be known?

The TAILORx trial completed its "accrual" phase in 2010. The target accrual was huge:  they needed 10,000 eligible volunteers:  http://www.prweb.com/releases/2010/10/prweb4686754.htm

According to the Genomic Health website (that's the company that does the Oncotype DX testing), results are not expected until 2015:  http://www.genomichealth.com/Publications/ClinicalTrials.aspx  That makes sense, because the study is looking at recurrence rates in women who do, or do not, get chemo.  Two of the main endpoints of the trial are "disease-free survival" and "overall survival."  It takes a long time (many years) to gather those numbers, especially among women with ER+ tumors.  I've read that the women participating in the study will be followed for 20 years.

Here's a link to the ECOG (Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group) page with more information about the TAILORx trial. ECOG is coordinating the study, so they should be posting new information on their website as it becomes available:  http://www.ecog.org/general/tailorx.html

Finally, for readers who aren't familiar with the TAILORx clinical trial, here's a short explanation in Q&A format from the National Cancer Institute:  http://www.cancer.gov/newscenter/qa/2006/TAILORxQandA
