Hello,

I'm new to the spot. My name is Rachel, 59 yrs old, DX with IBC in 11/10 and have made it through chemo 1, single mastectomy, halfway through chemo 2, and facing radiation soon but I don't want to dwell on the treatment.

I'm thinking about a reward for myself and my partner of 34 years when I finish radiation which will be the first week of August. When we were younger we used to always go to Michigan but it's been 20 years or more. Walking topless all day-I've got a picture of her rubbing cream on my sunburned breasts circa 1976.

Would it be possible for us to go back? Anyone else going? What would it be like to walk around lopsided and with the scar?  I know there is Dart but.....can we really do it or are we better off booking a more restful vacation like Cancun?

Are you kidding me? You would be a ROCK STAR! Ever seen the famous image of Deena Metzger from the 1970's that she calls "Tree"?

I have never been to the festival and now in my older <cough> years don't want to sleep on the ground or try to relive my glory days. Laughing If you want to go, go with gusto!

Congratulations on 34 years of partnership!!!!

I also haven't been to the festival since the late 80's, but the best thing about it was the very many body types and breasts out there, visible - scars, missing, big, small, sunburned, every size and type imaginable.  It gave me a whole new and better body image.

While I'm sure the MWMF has changed a lot in the last (god, has it been 20+ years?), but surely that would still hold true.  Go and have fun.

I would caution about walking around topless just after radiation - I missed that experience - but I've heard your skin is very sensitive to say the least.  It probably shouldn't be exposed to the sun and weather that soon after.  That would be true for Cancun, too, though.  And I don't know what the housing is like there now - they allowed RVs then, but still cold water outdoor showers when I went. I would think tenting might be a bit rough right after radiation.  Not trying to rain on your plans, for sure - just things to research.

Well, I caught this topic way too late, but here I am anyway.

I went to Fest in 2011 for the  very first time ever (I am 56).

Saw only one woman with a bilateral, like me, and she walked around with a towel draped over herself, like she was trying to be open about it and yet hiding it at the same time.

I didn't find camping to be too much, and they DO have the RV park, but I am the sort who would never have bared my breasts when I had them and am certainly not going to do it now that they are gone and I'm nothing but scars.

I hope you went and enjoyed yourself! We plan on going again this year if we can.
