I'm curious to know how long everyone's onc is suggesting they stay on Tamoxifen. My Onc originally said 5 years but has mentioned that 10 years might be better. I am coming up on the 5 year mark and I REALLY want to get away from all the medication. Please share your Onc's opinion. Thanks.

I think (could be wrong) it depends on ur cancer & wether u are post or pre menopause. I was post menopause & was told 2 1/2 yrs on Tamoxifen then 2 1/2 yrs aromatose inhibitor. I had wanted to stay on Tamoxifen due to very few side effects but after 3 yrs it has thickened the lining of my uterus. So now I'm on an AI & have to have a uterine biopsy in a couple of weeks. Good luck to you. Best wishes.

I was on tamoxifen for 5 years. I asked my doc about staying on longer and she said there weren't studies conclusive that staying on for 10 years would be better.

My MO has told me that the recommendation has been for 5 years, but recent studies have shown that 10 years is better. He also said that by the time I hit the 10 year mark that he wouldn't be surprised if they recommend staying on one for life. That's pretty depressing since I'm just starting on this journey and feel like everything has been a problem already.
TCHP x 6 with pCR. One year of Herceptin. DTI pre-pec surgery. Quit Tamoxifen after 3 months.
