Couldn't figure out where to post this, but I needed to post somewhere. In the shower this morning, I found a lump. I'm less than a year from diagnosis and lumpectomy and this is in the same breast about an inch away. I also have a seroma there, but this is a small hard lump about an inch from the scar and nowhere near the seroma. Gad... I'm not even sure who to call. My surgeon I guess.

I never felt the first lump. It was found by mammogram. So actually feeling a definite lump was a shock. Especially since I had my first follow-up mammogram last month and it was fine.

Sorry. There's nothing I needed to ask here. I just needed to tell someone who would understand. And I don't want to worry family, friends until I know what it is. Hopefully in a few days I'll be able to laugh off my fears because it's a cyst, etc. But.......

Yes, call your surgeon. There are innocent explanations, such as scar tissue. But you do need to know. Good for you for being on top of things.

Call the surgeon, they will check it out. That happened to me about a year out. We watched it for about 6 months and then he said he would feel better removing whatever it was. Turned out to be a nerve ending that died on the masectomy surgery. It just curled up in a ball forming a lump. I was never so happy in my life! Hope the same is true for you.

Thanks.... I'm calmer now. Called my surgeon and per their request, scheduled a mammogram. Then will talk to him about the results. It's amazing how many things can be felt as lumps, isn't it? I'm getting more relaxed about the fact that it could be anything. And since the follow-up is scheduled, I can (or will try) to relax until then. At least I know something is being done to check it out.

Thanks for the reminders that it may very well NOT be the cancer returning. I'll post one follow-up post in a week when I get the results.

Hi Janet11. I had a mastectomy then was put onto Tamoxafin. Year later I found a lump on the scar. It was removed and I did chemo and changed to Arimidex. 15 mths down the line, it recurred again. Removed, did Xeloda and radiation and put on to Aromasin. Have been lump free for the past 18 mths. See your surgeon and go from there. Better to know and treat and than to worry. Good luck and I will be thinking of you.

Thanks all. I'm much calmer now thanks to all of you, and I'm starting to realize it probably IS scar tissue (it's next to the seroma I can feel), but it's still worth checking it out.

It's the first time I've ever felt a lump, so initially it just scared me out of my mind. Anyway, mammogram and ultrasound were ordered by my surgeon and are set for Monday -- to make sure.
