Six weeks ago i had a breast abscess that went away with antibiotics.  Sent me for an ultrasound and mammogram.  The ultrasound report came back a Category 5 and I am scheduled for a u/s biopsy this thursday.  Just wondering if anyone else has had an abscess that was caused by cancer.  I am 44 years old and Not breastfeeding.  The abscess was on the outer edge of the right breast under the arm.

shoey, the infection wouldn't cause cancer but it looks like in your case it was actually helpful since you might not have found this for a while if you hadn't had the abscess.

Best of luck with the biopsy. I hope it comes back b9. I know Birads 5 is scary but it's not 100%.

edited to add: Sorry, I thought you meant did the abscess cause cancer, not the other way around. I've never heard of cancer causing an abscess.

Thank you Leah, I believe maybe this was God's way of getting my that mammogram because I foolishly thought it could never happen to me since I didn't have a family history of breast cancer or any cancer.  Hopefully it will be B9 and if it is B9 I will most certainately be getting a mammogram every year! Take Care and God Bless!

I'm sure its possible, but many things are possible.  Its possible,  but VERY unlikely for all the oxygen in the room you sit in will move to the other side of the room.   It sounds like it *can* happen, but is very, very unusual.

One abstract said they only found 6 reports of an abscess with a particular kind of squamous cell cancer on the breast.

I'm glad they're being thorough, but it sounds like its  very unlikely.  Best wishes for a Very Benign outcome!
