It has been a while since I have been in here. Everything for the last 5 1/2 years has been going good until yesterday.

I had my yearly mammo & ultra sound ( thanks to a stupid cluster of cyst.) I get to have a ultrasound every time I go now. All last week I had a bad feeling about my upcoming appt & everyone kept telling me I was nuts.

Anyway they did the mammo, then ultra sound then sent me back over to mammo. Started freaking me out, then they told me that I have calcifications again in my left breast. I had LCIS in my right breast in 2015, Also had the calcification's removed in both breast in 2015.

I am trying not to freak out, but its a perfect pretty good size cluster of them. I have my biopsy Monday. Help me not to freak out please. Tell me its all in my head.

I've been trying to figure out what to say to you but since I'm currently freaking out myself right now the only thing that comes to mind is that I'm with you. I know how scary things can get and you are very courageous to keep up with your exams. I have a lump and haven't had my yearly MRI in over 3 years. I have anxiety issues and just haven't been in a place where I can deal with waiting for results to come back, but you went ahead and did what I'm too afraid to do so while your anxiety might be at an all time high right now, you will be just fine in the end.

Racheal, the odds are with you that your biopsy will be ok--80% to 85% is what I have been told by my docs and what I have researched for all biopsies. One step at a time. I know that's not much help.

Some more info from this site that also matches what I was told about my own calcifications is:

Generally, calcifications are more likely to signal a benign process if they:

  • are larger than 0.5 millimeters (mm)
  • have well-defined edges and fairly standard shapes
  • are not clustered in one area of the breast

They are more likely to be associated with a cancerous process if they:

  • are smaller than 0.5 mm each
  • vary in size and shape
  • are clustered in one area of the breast

Perhaps you could get more info from the radiologist on your calcification situation or you could request the actual radiology/ultra sound report that may include some specifics on your calcifications. Bigger calcifications actually mean lower odds of malignancy.

Meow19, maybe a friend could help you make the appt and be with you when you go to your MRI. I understand the anxiety of waiting for results. Plus these are more anxious times anyway. Wishing you the best.

Please keep us updated on how your biopsy goes.

Thanks Racheal. Hoping for the best. Just trying to wrap my head around this. Last year I had 2 stomach surgeries to remove a rare type of tumor from my stomach so I feel like my life is a merry go round of doctors appointments, CTs, MRIs and endoscopes and now this...

Results are in and the news is not good. I have a call into my surgeon to figure out next steps. Not sure if I’ll do another lumpectomy or just do the mastectomy and reconstruction

Tomorrow morning I am scheduled for a bilateral MRI and on Friday I will see my surgeon to decide next steps. So far she thinks that another lumpectomy is the way to go but wants to see the results of the MRI before we schedule a nothing. Hoping for the best but with my luck lately I’m not to optimistic
