I'm back from my NYC weekend. Don't feel any older. Even tho every time I showed my id they said "do you know this has expired?" (my driver's license expired on my bday.) Only one said happy birthday. I was good. Took a nap every afternoon. But we had a great time. Walked and took the subway. The show was wonderful! We saw all the usual sights. Got a ride in a stretch limo and took one of those bicycle powered little carts in Central Park. Great memories. I don't have any pictures downloaded to the computer yet.

Hope your job is going ok, barbe! Do you get today off, here it is veterans Day.

hey maddie! The doubling up my dose of exfelexor seems to be helping with the pain. I am practicing for my sleep study tomorrow night. lol

I had my first BANK HOLIDAY yesterday and almost missed my book club!!! I've always worked on this day so when I was off this year my brain told me everyone was off. Thank goodness my DH knew the difference!! Still fighting my bad cold though, pharmacist says it's a 2-3 week doozie!! Voice is almost gone this morning and I have to do a talk on Friday at my local quilt store!!! Send healing prayers, please, ladies....

    praying for you, barbe!

I had my sleep study last night. That was not much fun. But I got through it. I slept about as much as I usually do. Waking up every 2-3 hours. The nurse was kept busy. I had to get her to unhook me every time I had to use the bathroom. Sheesh. They'll send me a report in about 2 weeks.

My DD went with me and we got some shopping in. Looking at flooring materials and bathtubs etc.... We each bought some new jeans and tops. She helps me like she is a personal shopper for me. But I was so tired we came home early.

    Hope you're feeling better barbe.

My sleep study shows that I never really hit REM which is really weird as I am a VIVID dreamer!!!! I'm feeling better, now need to feel GREAT as tomorrow is going to be a 12-hour day and we know what THAT will do to me!!!! Sleep for two days then back to work Monday.....

hi barbe, hope you are getting some good sleep. I sleep best from about 5am to 9:30 or 10. Not conducive to working, for sure. That is when I dream the really vivid dreams, too. They are usually anxiety producing.

Wahhhhhhhhh, I just read about veggy's passing. I am so sad. I hate this stupid disease!!!!!!!!!!! I have a good friend here at home that is fading, too. She is just so tired!!! It is so hard watching. I've been so involved with my DD that I haven't had time to spend with her. There is no understanding.

Veggy has moved on to her real home....

Got a nap in yesterday, but made it a short one instead of a 3-4 hour one!! I like to read until the wee hours and then sleep so I've been trying to break that habit these past 2 weeks. Working retail all these years and now banking means I don't start until 10 in the morning, one of the reasons I've chosen the path I guess.... I don't do well being woken by an alarm clock at all!!!!!!

Is that what is called banker's hours?

I have to get up and drive my DD to the early boat in the morning. But I get to come home and go to bed until the carpenters get here around 8. I am starting to feel like my life is taking off again. But I'm not sure if I can keep up any more. We got approved for the renovation last Thursday. There was one neighbor that opposed the plan, but the board gave up the permit. I just have to show the neighbor a sketch of the project with the outside colored in like it will look when it is done. I am really looking forward to living near her. lol

mac I hope you can post update pics!!!! Remember to take naps when YOU want them. ANY sleep is good for FM. In December I will have to work some 10-hour shifts as the other woman has to get her vacation time in before the end of the year. She's been alone at her location since July. Here I was ready to start in September when they hired me....but they waited until they had two people to train (one for another location) so I sat on my thumbs for another 2 months before starting in November. Geesh. So now into the third week of training today....I'm happy I'm learning my stuff well. The other guy is more focused on pulling people into the bank but then has to have the trainer sit beside him for every move. Seems like he's not "learning". He is a new Canadian (from India) and though charming, he has a hard time with definitions and doesn't always explain things well to the clients. It's hard for me to listen to.....

Yes, I will post updates. Right now we are just working on moving the bathroom down stairs and the washer dryer up a floor. So lots of jack hammering in the basement, so far. Now the new walls are going up. The biggest hassel is they have to turn the water and the furnace off during the day. So I have to get my shower in early. One day they told me they had turned the heat back on, but I ended up taking a cold shower. Oooops they said. lol

I'm glad you are enjoying your job, maybe not listening to your co worker, but learning new stuff is fun. Interacting with people is fun, too. I bet you are really good at it.

Hey, am I wrong or was this post started by dawnsm and now it says by faith? Or am I completely confused?

Hi to all !! OP here ... Just popped into this forum this morning and noticed that this thread -- "Great Saying About Depression" -- is still going strong since I first posted it back in October THREE years ago! I hope the saying that brought me some comfort has helped many during that time.

I'm so happy to see it's become a friendly meeting place for so many of my sisters!! Sending all of you my loving thoughts this holiday season ... and a great big hug! :)

Hey, I've been off line for a few days.

Great to hear from you, Faith (formerly known as dawnsm) It is so funny that when we change our avatar or name it changes all the way back to the beginning. This thread has helped me so much. thank you for starting it. where do you hang out now?

barbe, whew it has been a busy week. I had my yearly mammo and meeting with BS on Thursday. NED yahooo!!! Then I went off to a women's retreat with ladies from church, then DS was visiting (b/c he had to take care of the dog). So I finally have some time to sit and have a cuppa with you (as Chrissy says).

I am having work done on my home and shop. The work has not started on the cottage yet. Two weeks ago a carpenter, electrician, and plumber came and dismantled the small 1/2 bathroom in the house (1st floor) and the laundry area (basement) in the shop in preparation of switching them. They got all their preliminary work done, but nothing is hooked back up yet, because we are waiting on inspections. So I am not sure who it was that thought that it would be a good idea to not have laundry available over a holiday, but that is the way it is. lol (obviously a man!) I am excited to have a laundry room that is not downstairs and it will be more convenient for the new cobbler to have a bathroom to use that is not in my house.

So here is a funny story. A week or so ago a young woman with her young daughter came to my house and gave me some items that they said I had bought for a school fundraiser. I said, are you sure? I don't remember buying this stuff. They said oh yes and it is all paid for, too. So for 2 weeks I have been thinking that my memory problems are even worse than I thought, telling people how I didn't remember and wondering what else I might have forgotten. On Sunday afternoon, the young woman's mother stops by the house and says, my daughter brought some items here, but they really are for the Nancy at the other end of the street. I said Hallelujah, I am not crazy, I am not losing it!!!! We had a good laugh and I gave the stuff back, b/c I had just stuck it in a cabinet.

So is it a regular work week for you, barbe? We have our Thanksgiving on Thursday. My DS is coming back tonight. So I will be doing some cooking this week. I have actually got to get up off my bum and go grocery shopping.

That IS funny!!! Nice to know it wasn't you!

We have our Thanksgiving in October after "the harvest" (it's cooler up here, remember) so it's a good spread until our next turkey at Christmas. I LOVE it this way and can't imagine two big holidays only a month (less than!!) apart! So, yes, our bank is open on your Thanksgiving, but I do get way MORE stat holidays being in a bank now. I used to only get two - Christmas Day and New Years Day. That's it. This will be great!!

So, I was confused and forgot (me!!) about you switching your laundry/powder room. Brilliant!!! My head immediately went to the cottage as that really got my reno juices flowing!! I am currently in the process of doing over our master bath and have financed a tub-to-shower which is FABULOUS and now have to put a new floor down and get the new vanity in. So I am in limbo right now, too. Love it, though, hehehehhehee

So we can share our limbo time together. I am still dragging my laundry out to get done. Luckily I have 2 other bathrooms so no issues there. there is some problem with the permit for the new sump pump I had put in. So I am still waiting for inspections before everything can get hooked up.

What kind of new tub shower combo did you get? My DD is sending me pictures everyday of different tub combos.

I have to meet with the grumpy neighbor this week to show her the drawing of the outside of the cottage, so she will not appeal the decision to give me a permit. I am not too worried about it.

I see what you mean about having the 2 holidays so close together. Never really thought about it before, it is just the way it is. Sounds like your country is more thoughtful about it.

Thanksgiving is supposed to be a holiday at the end of the harvest. Our season ends sooner than yours so that's why we are earlier I guess.

We had a tub/shower but I need to use a seat and it's hard to step in with a shower running and then get on the seat. We got the tub taken out and just a huge shower put in it's place with frosted glass doors. I love it!!! Very expensive - it cost almost as much as our whole kitchen reno, but it's life-saving. I have a very large area of flat flooring that is slip-resistant and can walk to my seat and sit down without having to step over a high tub side. I didn't get the seat that would be installed permanently at the end of the shower. The rep was really good and said that the permanent seat isn't in the shower spray area. I also could see that if I ever needed a wheelchair it would be awkward to get on/off a wall seat. I'm using the white "medical chair" that I was using before and it doesn't even show through the frosted glass so the bathroom looks really classy.

I started laying the vinyl floor (floppy "plank" wood-like look) last night and it's easy!! We had a high quote and I figured I could do it myself. I love laying peel-and-stick tiles and this is click-flooring but vinyl so it's great for a bathroom. I cut around the hardest part last night (the wall by the tub with notches) so I've broken the back of the job already. Today I hope to go as far as I can. Then the toilet can go in next weekend and hopefully the vanity.

yes, that bathroom sounds wonderful. I admire you, barbe, laying your own flooring. I love vinyl flooring, doesn't scratch and doesn't need to be refinished.

Tired tonight.  Only got 3 1/2 hrs sleep last night.    Never had trouble sleeping before BC.  Now it happens a couple of times a month.  I especially hate it when it happens on a Saturday night because I volunteer at the Senior Center from 7 to 1 or so.  We serve Sunday breakfast from 8:30 to11 but there is also prep and clean up time too.  At least today was a slow day.  Had a long nap this afternoon but now I'm off to bed.

chabba, I've had to use sleeping pills (Imovane) for a number of years now. It's hard to stop the "chatter" in my head sometimes. They allow me to sleep exactly 8 hours and wake up with no hangover. I use them only when I'm desperate but there are times I can read all night and not doze at all. Now that I'm back to work I HAVE to have my sleep!! Is there something like warm milk, Gravol, Benadryl that works to make you sleepy? I don't think of it just from breast cancer, but from getting older too. I know we need less sleep as we get older, but less than 4 hours isn't enough for you! Napping is ALWAYS a good thing... I LOVE to nap but know it might screws up my night again as I nap for HOURS.

Meant to add that I put vinyl tiles down over any ceramic tiles whenever we move. I find ceramic too COLD!!!!! With vinyl you don't need socks and it can get wet and not be slippery. I get to sit down and do my "art" and just love the quick-fix. I cover linoleum with vinyl tiles too and that sticks really well! With ceramic you have to fill in the grout lines with a floor-leveler and then put down the tiles. I did my whole kitchen, front hall and powder room a couple of years ago. When we moved in they were white ceramic with some cracks. Sorry, but I HATE white ceramic!! We live in a cooler country and it's just way too cold!! I covered them with a gorgeous brown/gray/slate coloured tile that looks amazing. You can imagine the difference from going from white to slate! Then when we got the wood floors (engineered laminate) laid they looked amazing where they joined!

chabba, I hear you about the sleep issues. I use to just fall asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow. No more. I had a sleep study done a few weeks ago, which showed that I have trouble sleeping.lol not sleep apnea. I am going to meet with my PCP on monday to find out results and see what we can do.

I am really tired tonight, tho. Did a trip to the city to the cancer center. My BS's office had faxed a perscription to the boutique there. I got fitted for 3 more bras with more support and 1 even has some lace. I also got a small prosthetic to even the girls out. Boy, oh boy, they know what they are talking about look good, feel better! I felt like a new woman walking out of there.

barbe, what a great idea to put the vinyl over the tile. I don't like tile either. It is too cold and too unforgiving. With my hand issues I fumble things in the kitchen, which would result in lots of broken dishes. I also have laminate flooring because the dog would scratch up wood too quickly.

Update on the new cobbler. He is coming here Dec 17th (that's right around the corner!) He can't wait to put up some signs and an ad in the paper. I keep telling him, we don't really need to advertise, people stop me everyday to ask when the shop is reopening. I hope the new (old) bathroom is completely installed by then. Maybe it will help to tell the workmen I now have a deadline.

    Nighty, night

started doing laundry tonight. yay!!! lol.

I talked to my PCP today about my sleep study. I am still digesting it all. I don't get to REM sleep at all. If I lay on my back my throat closes off and I wake up. If I sleep on my side I still wake up about 25 times. They suggested I lose weight and put a pillow behind me to keep me from rolling over. There is actually a device (belt with a foam fin) that I could buy, but really? I am already on a diet. We are going to adjust my meds to see if that makes any difference. But I really don't know what to think.

mac, they told me I didn't get to REM either, but I VIVIDLY remember my dreams!!!! In fact, I am known as what is called a "Vivid Dreamer". I can touch, feel, smell and even "know" I am in a dream. As well as fly. I am VERY fortunate to get to flying as that is a stress relief for me. It gets to the point where I can say to DH that I "hope I fly tonight" as I need it. He knows what I mean. So how does that not equate to REM????????? My studies were right off the chart saying I didn't get to REM. So maybe I really, really "live" those dreams and do NOT dream them???

They told me to lose weight too. I told them to fuck off but only in my head. I'm not as big as 50% of the people I see out there including some medical personnel so please stop using that as an excuse!!!!!!!!!!!!

What position are you the most comfortable? Use it and then prop pillows behind/beside you to keep you there. If you stay comfortable, you'll sleep better. I have to stay on my back as my spine and hips are so bad. I wake up from pain if I try to roll so I've "learned" to stay flat. You will learn what is best for you if you experiment. Good luck, sweetie and congrats on the laundry!! (Did you put it away, though?)

imagehey barbe, this is what they want me to wear to keep me off my back. It has to be prescribed. But it was not available when my PCP looked it up. I am most comfortable on my side. I remember at the study they had pasted wires behind my ears so it was uncomfortable to sleep on my side. I have to have a pillow between my knees and one hugged to my chest to take the pressure off. I spent many months on my back after the bc surgery, tho. So now another pillow behind me. lol. I already have a special pillow for my neck, compression gloves and night wrist splints. I am one attractive sleeper!
