  • When you read about the increased cardiac risk of hormone blocking, it says having 2 or more of the 5 most common cardiac risk factors is of concern. I have 4 of the 5, at a young age of 46 yo, without having even started treatment for the BC. And the other 2 treatments, chemo and radiation, they say I don’t need to do despite Stage 2B Grade 3, medium size, multifocality, with a micromet in 1 lymph node. Soooowe are skipping right onto hormone controlling as the ONLY thing that will be keeping existing cancer micromets or loose cells from getting bigger and turning into tumors. But at what risk for me with these 4 of 5 extra risk factors before a single pill or shot has been done? Am I literally now going to have to decide if I would rather die from either cancer or heart failure? Because that’s what it sure sounds like!

@cafespider - Thank you for sharing your story. We're so sorry you’re facing such a tough situation. Let's see what others have to say, but if you're feeling unsure, it might be helpful to get a second opinion from a cardiologist to discuss ways to manage your cardiac risk while undergoing treatment.

Let us know hoe you're doing. We're here for you!

I was diagnosed in 2010 recurrence breast cancer for 3 rd time. All recurrences and beginning diagnosis same place same symptom all issues the same. We (husband and myself) began searching for help. I'm from Mobile al. We went to oncologist Mobile then university of Ala (UAB) both had similar rec. we searched for place that could administer radiation AND MISS MY HEART. We found MD ANDERSON IN HOUSTON! After 72 nuclear radiation treatments I was guaranteed to be 95%
Cured! It's 2025 after a horrible cancer journey from beginning in 1995 I am considered in remission!! AMEN. High bp but at age 72 I'll take that. No other heart issues. 2010 I had to live away from home 6 months! No problem I've seen all 3 sons finish school married and I have 7 grand children! Husband an & I married 51 years and my mom is 97 living by herself!

God is good an the USA health community if you seek them they bless you!

    Pray without stopping

@diablo we really appreciate you sharing all this ❤️ We're here for you!

  • Sorry, I accidentally posted this under the poll response thread…. Here goes…

A routine CT was performed when I was diagnosed and it was found that I have a large amount of calcification of my heart, so I was enrolled in the cardio-oncology program at the hospital. I had to fight to get in to see a cardiologist for follow-up because the Oncologist was more focused on the cancer, but I eventually did get into see a cardiologist when I presented with serious tachycardia in the oncologist's office. He, then, sent up a flair for an immediate appointment. Cardiologist has been routinely monitoring my heart with an echo-cardiogram due to the H/P treatment and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. They ran a nuclear stress test and the results were good despite what the CT showed. The cardiologist and I are working on getting my cholesterol down - not doing well with statins. :( Trying a new one this Friday.

The oncologist made an interesting comment to me one time - that cancer had saved my life. I'm guessing he was referring to my finally getting medical care and having the heart problem detected before I had a stoke or heart attack and in intervening with all of the other medical problems I have that are now being treated. Interesting take on the situation.

I feel very fortunate to have had all of the treatment I have received. It has been and still is very challenging to access and coordinate all of my care, but I am ever so grateful.

  • Hello, I sympathise with people who have heart issues. I'm based in UK so not sure how differently things are done here but I was born with a hole in the heart and so I'm concerned also about radiotherapy to left breast that could damage my heart 💔.

The only advise I've received so far is that I will need to take a deep breath and hold it for a moment whilst the radiotherapy happens to keep heart away.

I'm not sure I'm reasured with this advise, but will see what Oncologist says.
