Anyone else have spinal compression fractures?

Mine is apparently from osteoporosis, probably chemo / femara induced. My T scores are not awful (worst is -2.5 in hips; others in -2 range). I’ve been on Fosomax for a few years. But now that I’ve found out about this compression fracture, endocrinologist is recommending Evenity or Tymlos. Both have potential scary side effects (of course!) . Evenity is heart attack/stroke (black box warning); Tymlos apparently gave mice bone cancer. So…. Anyone dealing with compression fracture? Any experience with Evenity or Tymlos?

Hi @peggy_m, My sister has terrible osteoporosis and took Evinity for two years. She has been vegetarian practically her whole life so she has virtually no cholesterol damage. She developed ejection fraction problems and was taken off the drug. Over the years she has been on almost every drug out there to increase bone density so it’s hard to know what might have caused her problems. She wore a brace when she had spinal compression fractures since she had difficulties healing from previous bone surgeries. Thankfully I have been able to manage my osteoporosis by cycling on and off Fosamax. There are other drug possibilities like denosumab. You could check out the possible SEs of those. All the best with your decision.

Thank you so much @maggie15 (I am actually a Margaret — you too?) So far just one fracture; seeing spine doc about possible brace/physical therapy, etc and hoping to keep it from crumbling further. Denosumab has its own worries — read somewhere that people who stop it are MORE likely to get spine fractures. They all come with downsides, but hopefully do their job. Do you now if the Evenity at least helped your sister gain bone density/strength? All the best to you both!

Hi Peggy, I am a Margaret, too. My mother was also Margaret and called Peggy. My sister did have some improvement on Evinity ( hip t-score of -3.1 to -2.7). I hope the spine doctor comes up with a plan to heal your spine and whatever med you decide to take causes no side effects.
