does tumor size increase after biopsy?
I had a biopsy 3 months ago, and did a follow up ultrasound last week to make sure the treatment was working. The US report showed the tumor had grown, and by volume calculations it was 150% larger than the ultrasound done 3 months ago (in August) right before the biopsy. For comparison, the tumor had increased only 60% from the 6 month period of Feb - Aug. If it makes a difference, this is invasive ductal carcinoma, HER2 negative. I didn't have any complications like excessive swelling or infection with the biopsy.
The tumor growing 150% in only 3 months seems like a lot for me, especially since I've been on Arimidix to shrink the tumor for 2 months. Is this normal?

Hi @genealogist, Are you taking Arimidex to shrink the tumor before surgery or to avoid surgery? It is very rare for a biopsy to cause cancer to spread. The size of the tumor is important when looking at percent increase. If it is very small a 150% increase isn’t that much while if it is large it would make a bigger difference. Everyone reacts to medications differently so it would be wise to consult your oncologist for an opinion on how well your treatment is working. All the best.
