Post surgery medication need
I've just had a lumpectomy that was diagnosed 5 years ago. I was afraid of surgery because I didn't want radiation which I was lead to believe would have been necessary so I relied on estrogen blocking Letrozole and Kisqali. The y finally stopped working so I had a lumpectomy and 18 lymphnodes removed. The surgery was a piece of cake -an outpatient surgery! And no radiation. I was home for lunch.
So don't be afraid of surgery. I was declared cancer free and a low risk for recurrence in a Signatera test but my oncologist wants to put me on Letrozole again. Has anyone faced this decision? I just want to put all of this behind me.

Did you have progression? What was your tumor type & is it the same after your, lumpectomy?

Hi @boxwood , we're glad to hear your surgery went smoothly and that you're recovering well.
As for restarting Letrozole, this is something that can be difficult to decide after surgery. We hope others in similar circumstances will share their experiences and how they made their decision.
Wishing you continued healing and good health! 🌷

Hi jhl, I have not had any progression that I know of. Surgeon removed 18 lymphnodes and the lobular cancer tumor in my breast. My oncologist put me on Examestane as a precautionary step to avoid a recurrance. The examestane resulted in terrible pain in my hip joint. I stopped taking it after 3 weeks. Now the oncologist wants to put me back on Letrozole again as a precautionary measure to ward off a recurrence. My scans show no cancer.
A physiatrist prescribed therapy for my painful joint but no injection for the pain. I don't know why he doesn't want to give me the injection as his current director did for me 4 years ago when I first started Letrozole. When my body learned to deal with the estrogen blockage from Letrozole, I no longer needed any further pain relief.
