@maremare1953 Thank you for sharing all of this here and on some of the other threads. It makes complete sense that you want to understand your options before deciding on Herceptin.
Your doctors know your case best, so bringing your questions directly to them is a great next step. Here are some that might help guide that conversation:
- Given the tumor is only 3mm invasive and stage 1A, is Herceptin still recommended for someone in my situation?
- Would I need a full year of Herceptin, or is a shorter course an option given the small tumor size?
- Would Herceptin be given with chemotherapy, or on its own?
- How do my grade 2 and Ki-67 of 7% factor into your recommendation?
- What would my risk look like if I chose not to take Herceptin?
- Since I'm ER+/PR+ as well as HER2+, how would Herceptin and hormone therapy be sequenced or combined?
- What side effects should I watch for with Herceptin, especially anything related to heart health?
- Are there any tests you'd want to run before starting, like a baseline heart function test?
We suggest bringing this list, and any other questions you have, with you, or send it ahead of time if your clinic allows messaging. Many people find it helps to write down the answers during the appointment too, or asking your doctor if it's okay to record the conversation, since there's often a lot to take in at once.
You're asking exactly the right questions, and you don't have to have this all figured out on your own.
We're here with you as you work through it.0
