Wow. Pigs in Wigs. Cats in Ponytails...... birds soaring gracefully, multi-cultural greetings AND a flyby by yet another Deb!! DEBORYE, so good to see you. Love your new avatar pic and your smiling face. Sure hope this new year allows you more time here at peace-beach-central.
We had the loveliest of lovely evenings with our neighbors: calm, serence, great food and encouraging conversations -- all that could be heard and appreciated. And then yet another good night's sleep. (I'm thinking of bottling this concept: good sleep.)
The New Year begins to unfurl and I've had a RADICAL idea. I've hooked up my laptop as per usual, but I have it perched on the edge of our tallish-pub-height-kitchen table and I'm marching and typing !! OMG. Even if I just stand here and type, I figure it's gotta use more calories than sitting on my duff and typing. So I have begun in earnest to do things differently -- in a caloric burning manner.
Much love my beachie-bunnie-buddies. Who's gonna join the fun today? This week? This month?

Checkum!!!! I read an excerpt from The Good Good Pig. It is absolutely my kind of story. I've gotta find the book somewhere. Hope it's in paperback. I don't shop online......darnit. But surely it's available in Canada? Is the ending happy? OH PLLLLLLLLLEASE say yes.

I have a group of girlfriends on another board and when they found out that I had bc, the ladies put together a HUGE care package of books to keep me reading... Happy New Year, Beach Babes. The first day of a new year that hasn't been written yet. A blank sheet of paper for us. The old year is written and that book is closed. What we write on this new, clean sheet is up to us.
I watched a movie last week called '10 Items or Less' with Morgan Freeman. I love Morgan Freeman. The movie was about an aging actor who felt his day had passed and a grocery store cashier in her 30's who felt her chance to do something better in her life had passed. The actor is at the store to do 'research' for a part in an independent 'B' movie and befriends the clerk and spends the day with her helping her prepare for an interview as an office assistant. Through the process they both come to realize that there is still alot of life ahead for both of them.
The last important scene of the movie is when she drives him home and they both realize they will never see each other again. Morgan Freeman turns to her and says to always remember that 'we live, we work and we've only just started.'
So, remember that we, too, live, work, and we've just gotten started.

The book I am reading now is "Sufficient Grace" - another good story. If there are any readers out there that would like me to pass on books - just let me know... I love to read/write -- and as I said I have a big box that I am working my way through.. so- I will keep you posted on the titles as I plow through them - and if it interests you let me know. This will make the girls very happy when I tell them that there gift is helping many amazing women!!Also - here is a little plug. I hope you don't mind. I also have written a story. It took me 3 years to write. But, earlier last year in April - I did it, I got my story printed and published! What an accomplishment. The aftermath of the story during the summer was absolutely amazing. The ironic thing is that the story (a true story about an event in my life) was what I thought was the story of my survival... well in September when I was diagnosed I realized that the story is not over yet... there is quite a bit of follow-on for another book. This will be something I might tackle when I feel better. My book is "Out of the Fog" by Cindy Lou Young.
Like I said - I hesitate to post - because I don't want anyone to be offended and think this is a sales pitch... just sharing the amazing up/down journey I have had this year...
I gave the book to my oncology nurse for xmas and here is the email she sent..

I hope you are feeling ok after your chemo. Sorry I didn't get to
talk to you on Tues. Mon and Tues were kind of busy because of the
holiday. I just wanted to say thank you for the gift of your book. I have
finished reading the book and I really liked it. I loved the fact that you
dedicated it to your daughter. You two must have a very special bond.
I have to tell you that I have worked in Oncology for almost 11 years
and have met a lot of great people. I often remark to my coworkers that no
matter how well we come to know our patients we only see a small glimpse of
who they are. Over the years there have been a few people who have really
stood out, most of them women. They are people who have faced adversities
that I could only imagine and yet they face each day with courage and grace
and most often a smile on their faces. So I thank you for sharing your book
with me because it has given more than just that glimpse of you. And you are
now added to that list of people I admire.
My favorite part of the book is the final chapter. In particular I
believe that "time has a way of demonstrating that there is some good to all
that is painful." Often times we can't see this when we are in the fog. I do
believe that faith in some higher power, whatever God you choose is very
important. I find it very difficult to convey this to young people but maybe
this comes with age and experience. The other thing I often say to those
around me is that life is a crap shoot. It could all change drastically or
come to an end in an instant. One thing I've learned in my work is to not
complain about my life. There will always be those better off than me but
also those who are not as fortunate. They say the secret to happiness is
learning to be satisfied with what you've got.
So Cindy I hope you've had a Happy Birthday and will have a Happy
New Year. Thanks again.

Creating a book is a genuine legacy that has the opportunity to ripple out beyond your wildest imaginings -- reaching people outside of your immediate sphere.
I wish you well in the writing of the follow-up story and wish you many, many titles additionally in your library........ benefitting yourself in the process and numerous others as they discover your experience neatly held together between the covers.
Whoooohoooooo a "real" author on our little stretch of beach. How fortunate are we?
