Good Foggy morning. It's really thick here. I am doing great. I'm still in therapy. I have a question? Do any of you girls taking Arimidex and Lexapro every drink wine?? I sure miss it. My surgeon told my friend to drink 1 oz of red wine , 1 square of drak chocolate and take 1 80 mg asprin a day. This will take care of BP, cholesterol, etc. So, heres my thinking if 1 oz of wine is good for you , just imagine what 10 oz's can do??? Ha Ha just kidding. Seriously though do any of you?

Good morningand I awoke to sunshine. Ah -- there is a God and he did hear me. Well, truthfully, the weather was going to change anyway -- thank goodness to the better. Dh is doing well, and will go shortly ( this coming Wednesday ) for a stress test at the V.A. Wow !!! They are serious. He has to be there at 7:30 a.m. Absolutely nothing to drink -- meaning not even one sip of coffee although pills are ok with a bit of water. No food, and then on to a five hour test. Un-believable. They will feed him afterward. Wendy -- what is the purpose of a five hr. test
My days are as usual. Work, go to feed feral cats -- go to Maggie's to work. Only thing different is Maggie is in St. Mary's....so I do her house and all of her animals. Have to bring her some supplies to the hospital today. She has an infection ( just winding down from a big celluitis infection before she was hospitalized, and as well pneumonia which is what triggered the hospital stay. Cleaned garden veggies last night till it got hard to stand up straight, and today is generally a repeat of that.
Have to find some time to go pick up new washer and dryer from Sears in Mt. Vernon so Dh can get cracking on the exchange and appts. made for service on that knob. I will be doing lots of laundry since I will have no machines for at least two weeks. Yikes...I hate that part. I will not go to a laundromat, period.
Buddy,I am assuming your friend has not had cancer. That sounds like a wonderful program otherwise. Still, the general feeling/information seems to point toward not being a good idea ( the wine @ 1 oz. per day ) for anyone who has had cancer. This has not made me a tee-totaler, but it does pretty much knock out the three times a week or so. I should have saved the reference I read -- sounded like something about cancer made your cells more susceptible to the effects of alcohol --- but hard to explain how it all takes place. It rang true when I read it though. You know my little bell that goes off in my chest when something is true -- Drat.
May as well get today started. Already cooked my steel oats before I sat down here.
Hope you all have a happy, productive Saturday ( 87 degrees here later ) and a little sun and warmth too. I have some extra.
Hugs, Jackie

Hey ladies
Things have been going well following my unilateral (no nodes, no reconstruction) surgery a week ago. I saw the surgeon yesterday for a follow up appt--it looks like the healing is going fine--I have to keep the drain for a bit longer, tho. Just glad to have it over with!

EnglishMajor, it is good to hear that you are doing well. As I recall, many of the people who did masts had few complains other than the drain -- or drains. You as well have that great can-do and will-do attitude and that carries you quite a distance. Hope you continue to progress without interference.
Have a wonderful day, enjoy the warmth and sunshine. See you all later.
Hugs, Jackie

Wow!
Good to hear from you, English Major, and it sounds like things are going well. I did not have the drains as I had the lumpectomy, but I hear that they are most uncomfortable. Hope they are history soon!
My daughter and son in law and family are coming over for lunch. I am going to ask them to help me with the facebook. I have never set a thing on it. I do use it to hear from my niece and nephew who live in Malaysia, as well as friends who live far away, so I would miss it for that. My son in law is an interenet security guy with Morningstar, so he might know. This was just such an odd thing that happened. I am very open about my breast cancer, but what if I were not! Good grief.
Have fun!

Morning everyone! Looks like it is shaping up to be a beautiful weekend. I am ready for summer.
Zap - I saw that post on Facebook, but I didn't really look too hard at it. My son had an issue several months back in which his account would randomly post links to his friend's walls. We figured out it was a virus on his pc and we had to basically get rid of everything on his pc to clear it up.
Glad to hear you are doing well Englishmajor.
Mich - let us know how the Fosomax is going. I am doing fine now on the Actonel now that I am taking Prilosec with it. I sure hope it is helping my bones.
Kids have one more week of school. DS is going on the 7th grade trip to Springfield/St. Louis on Saturday. They told us they actually put tape on the hotel doors so they know if they left their room at night! Oh boy.
Wendy - glad your eye is doing ok. Scary.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Good morning all,
Wow, the fog in my backyard looks like I live on thenocean! Can't see a thing out there.
Susan, I too am concerned with Facebook's recent privacy changes. Did you know that any post you have on here at bc.org can also show up in a google search? I was researching tx for some very tough mets my mom had, and that's how I found this site. Some members {not on this thread} who were dealing with same, and had posted about it, popped up. I couldn't see real names or anything, so I guess that's why it is a good idea to make up usernames like we do. Please let us know if your SIL has any good ideas about safety and Facebook.
Jackie, you are not being tested the whole five hours. You have to get injected, usually it's a nuclear mdicine test, they take pictures, and then you wait awhile. You do some time on a treadmill or bike, then more pictures and so on. Caffeine is a stimulant, so they don't want that, and food in the stomach sends extra blood there for digestion, and you don't want that for the test. Wonder what they'll feed him....my DH got some juice I think, and maybe a bagel. The doctor stopped his test sooner, because he has asthma and got short of breath on the treadmill. Back in the dark ages I was a critical care nurse, and regularly cared for coronary bypass patients. This test is still the best they have short of an angiogram. Hoping he passes with flying colors!
To all on Actonel etc. remember the weight bearing exercise is as important to our bones as calcium, vit D, and meds. It all works together.
Have a great weekend, regardless of weather!

Leaving NY tomm ladies and wanted to say hi!
My good friend as some may know being in FB. called me yesterday as her 12 year old son committed suicide. YES, this young.I am more of a mentor to her and she has alot of tough background and this is just another part of her jounrey that is just impossible to comprehend.
Went to viist friends today in Poughkeepsie and then to Bear MTN. Saw some of Obama's cars and Plane coming and goin as he was at West Point today!
Be well and talk soon.

Hi everyone,
Gee Donna, that is a tough one having someone so young commit suicide. One wonders how bad can life be to end it almost before it has begun. I do think often young people have a bravado that we don't possess --- they are generally still in the time period where there is great angst and of course, time is passing so slow for them. They feel like the condition they are in has gone on forever and will continue to do so. I am very sorry for your friend and hope and pray she and her family will get through this and be ok later.
Another long day for me, but hopefully, Maggie will come home tomorrow. She still has some recovering to do obviously, but it will sure lighten my load if she is able to do a few things once she gets home.
It is almost 10 p.m. so I'm headed fairly soon for the recliner. See you all in the morning.
Smerf, thanks for the info on the stress test. Surely sometime in my life I must have ran across someone who had one of these longer tests, but sure couldn't think of it, if so. It does stand to reason that a longer test would be more beneficial. I think that is the same way for a Glucose Tolerance isn't it??
Anyway, I'm hoping that they do know a whole lot more. He has felt fairly well since as he started taking the bp meds and cholesterol too. I think that alone made a big improvement.
I think I mentioned here my last check-up went fine. Numbers were all in order etc. My D level was fine. Glad to hear it. Now when I'm tired I know it is from working and not lack of vitamins. Then I think Duh !!! anyone working 7 days a week should be tired at least some of the time.
I'll be chatting again with you tomorrow. See you then.
Hugs and yawns, Jackie

Morning! Clear and sunny, already 65 on the deck...heading up to around 90 later and I for one am NOT complaining! It has been so long....and my lilacs smell so good! I cut some last night before I went up to bed and put them on the dresser....heavenly to wake up to that scent!
Donna....I commented on FB. I am so sorry that your friend's son thought that suicide was the only way out for him. So very sad. And tragic.
Buddy....I pretty much stopped alcohol last December....just my idea. I do miss sipping wine while on the deck, grilling. But DH stopped all alcohol over 15 yrs ago so it wasn't a big deal for me. I did have a Long Island Iced Tea about a month ago tho...wow! Those are GOOD!!!!! YUM!!!!!!! Having a glass or two of wine PER WEEK I don't feel is any big deal and I think most girls here agree with that. So if it were me, I would go ahead and enjoy!
Need to get going as my grandniece is riding in another horse show but not at the novice level anymore since her last win. She now will be jumping 2 and 3 feet. And no, I don't get the whole horse thing but she has been ga-ga over anything horses since she was a baby. She's 11 and recently told her Mom that she will be looking for her husband when the time comes only in Kentucky so he will have horses. Good to plan ahead I guess....

Happy Sunny Sunday to all. Looks like we all are out and about this weekend. Warm weather and sunshine is what we need. Soaking up that Vit D is so good for us. I was looking forward to spending the day on the lake, but I fell on Friday night at a party I was attending. I now have a rotator cuff tear in my left shoulder ( BC side). Being in an arm sling is no fun. I am very concerned about developing lymphedema in my left arm as it is already swollen from the fall..Not a way I wanted to start out my summer. sniff sniff. Has anyone had shoulder issues?
Donna...sorry to read about your friend's son untimely death. how sad. Glad to see that you had fun with dad in NY. Have a safe trip home.
Buddy..how is your arm doing and is PT working for you. Hope you are feeling better soon.
Wendy.. Are you riding horses now. lol Is dh looking forward to vac soon. 8 more days and counting yeah for me.
Laura...how is work going for you.. busy. Your forest sounds like there is a lot of action going on there. Must be party time. lol
Rita....bunco and dinner how fun. Glad to see that you all had fun. Maybe we can all meet up this summer for lunch. It would be so good to see you again. Check your calender.....
Jackie..how is your dh feeling. Better I hope. Question what is the dash diet? I never heard of it. How are you feeling these days.
Carolyn...sorry to hear about your dad and sister. Hope everyone is feeling better soon. How is the drainage coming...has it slowed down yet.
Zap...did your dd move into her new house. Are your subbing anymore now. Just think summer is almost here and I did one full year. Exhausting but did it. lol
To everyone else I missed I hope you all are doing well with your txs. Sending you all healing hugs your way.
Have a great Sunday ...go out and enjoy the sunshine. I am off to take my pain meds and chill.
Remember to be healthy....be happy enjoy your life.

Good morning.
Very pretty outside and it will get hot, hot, hot, about 90 with humidity. Was pretty warm yesterday. I kept the doors and windows closed and turn on the ceiling fans and it stayed @ 73 inside -- not bad. I will try that out today. I don't think the humidity was all that bad yesterday.
Hmm. Dash Diet -- Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. Bj, this diet utilises fruits and vegetables, whole grains along with low fat and non-fat foods. You cut out things with salt, baking soda or powder etc. It is fairly simple and you can lose weight I think easier etc. In general a dash diet could be healthy for almost anyone.
Donna,Maggie is my friend. We met years ago at a Humane Society meeting and hit if off, and as she is older than me, and has many health issues, I now help her with a lot of her life. She has virtually no family so it brings me a lot of contentment and peace that she has someone familiar and does not have to rely completely on strangers. I know she feels better about this too. As an aside, I actually do have a cat named Maggie --- it is one she brought to me that needed help and I just could not think of a name -- so .
Bj,I am so sorry that you fell and have this bad rotator cuff thing. From what I understand -- very painful. Hopefully, ( as you are a nurse and I'm sure started self care immediately ) damages are minimized, and your course through this may be a little better. I'm sending as many healing thoughts and vibes as I can gather in two arms. Feel better soon.
I don't know for sure what I'll be doing today, but I'll enjoy it I'm sure. Who could not with this beautiful weather. Hope you all can get out and do something fun and relaxing. I'll be checking back later.
Hugs, Jackie

Good morning everyone.. on this bright and sunny morning.. My DH is finally back after a WEEK's business trip.. and I've had my first night's sleep in a week. Amazing how I just can't sleep alone even if he sometimes snores. AND, as much as I love my parents, having them here all last week was a bit stressful. Well, we are off this afternoon for family pictures for Gab's 6 months. I can't believe she is 6 months next Fri.. believe it or not, its coming up on 4 months since my diagnosis.. when my DH was at the dr's office being told if this was not caught it would be 4-6 mos.. and here we are, going for pics.. I think I'll be 'red' today... Will post a pic of the kids if I can figure out how later tonight.. I love picture day and so do my older kids.. (I hate being in them, but somehow think I should even if I don't buy many.. they will still be on the disc. Last time they shot over 100 and we bought 5)..
Enjoy the sunny day..

Whoaaaaa, Blackjack, that is not one bit fun! As a matter of fact, Paul has shoulderr troubles and just yesterday he announced that enough is enough and he is getting it checked out. The whole topic on his shoulder came up as I was thinking about our visit and I asked him if he would like to learn how to golf. He then said that he would but he shoulder is hurting too much So now this is not helping your golf, is it? I really hope it all mends without anything too demanding. I am working half day tomorrow and the kids will be wild as everything about today spells SUMMER VACATION!DD did move into her rental house in GlenEllyn where she will stay with her family until they find the "real" house there. They thought it would take months to sell their Evanston condo when in fact they did it in a week. So they had to go ahead and ended up with the rental which is more house. It is a beautiful place on a very large lot, so they are loving the space. Lats night they were enjoying a glass of wine in the backyard and a raccoon came right up to them. That was unpleasant as my dd does not like critters.DH and I are going to a state park in McHenry today to ride bikes. It is suppose to get to 90 so maybe I will sweat some weight away. Last night we saw Blindside, What a great movie!Take care all and have a wonderful day! Edited to clean up a million typos!!0

Hi All,
Donna, So sorry to hear about your friend's son's death. How horrible. Glad to hear that you enjoyed time with your father.
BJ, Sorry to hear about your rotator cuff problems. Shoulder problems are a bummer.
Buddy, hope your arm & hand is doing well.
Glad to see so many of us getting out and about today! I for one been so tired of being stuck in the house without my driving privileges! Called the PS on Friday and he said no driving until the drain comes out. I wanted to cry. Just when I thought I would be stuck here forever(LOL) my sister's friend was going to a party that had Lia Sophia jewelry and Arbonne skin care, and purses. Most of all there were PEOPLE!!!! Real live people! LOL. Anyway my sister went with and we had a good time.
My dad got out of the hospital last week Tuesday, but he needed to continue IV drug therapy for the next 3 days. Since my sister is the only one capable of driving and available at the time, she had to drive him. The IV medication, the oxygen and the new way that the dr's explained to take his medication seem to be working well; however, my dad doesn't want to get his hopes up.
My sister has probably broken a bone in her hand. She has to go for an MRI next week. If it's broken on one side she'll need surgery to put a screw in. If it's broken on the other side she needs to have a cast for 6-8 weeks. Oh what fun.
The family is all going to my uncle's today for a BBQ. We have family in from out of town. I'm excited to see them and to get out of the house.
Be well and have fun today everyone!
Carolyn

Carolyn You crack me up. You got to be around real people. whoo hoo. It sounds like your healing well. I am wishing the same for your dad.
Zap how was the zoo. Did you get to see the baby?
Mak I cant bel, ieve she is 6 months old already. Looking froward to seeing your pics.
Jackie You always amaze me with your kindness. I think its so wonderfully beautiful how you manage to care for everyone and the naimals too. Maggie is very blesssed to have you in her life.
Just found out my Dad is in the Hospitol in Paducah. All we know is that its somthing with the liver. Please keep him in your thoughts.
Love to all my sisters.

Buddy, lots of prayers for your Dad. I will ask the universe to please watch over him and help him get better. Dads are wonderful people. I miss mine all the time -- we were buddies he and I as my sister always gave him a hard time. She would try to rile my Mom about things he did. Anyway.... many healing hopes and thoughts. Dads are very special people.
Hugs, Jackie

Good morning, gals! It sounds like everyone had a good weekend. We were so busy that I didn't spend much time on the computer. Both Saturday night and yesterday afternoon we golfed in a Couple's Golf outing and a Mixed Golf scramble. Dave's team beat my team by one stroke yesterday afternoon! We had so much fun!
Buddy...so sorry to hear about your Dad. My Dad is in Tennessee and I know how hard it is when they are sick and you're here and they're so far away. I will keep him (and your family) in my prayers. My Dad is a constant worry for me, too. He is now living by himself. His wife, my step-mother, has just been put in a nursing home. That was for the best but my Dad is so crippled with arthritis that's he's in a wheel-chair. He has a house cleaner that comes in and helps twice a week and gets food brought in from the senior center. Still I worry that he will fall. He won't wear a Medi-Alert device of any kind and has no problems mentally so home is where he stays for now.
Well, I am going in search of flowers for my pots today. I'll be a woman on a mission. I love this warmer weather. It completely energizes me! I'll check back later.

Good Morning,
I love this quote. Heard and read it several times before, but in places that did not give the author or anything about it. I am 1/8th. Cherokee so I'm sure that increases the appeal. Hope you are all going to have a wonderful day. They keep saying we could get pop-up type showers. Mainly from the heat. I complain about the heat, but if it were just heat....I'd be fine. I think it is the humidity that makes we feel like a big sponge. I did ( way sooner than I like ) turn our air conditioner on. Will have to get up to 78 for it to go on. I am fairly certain it did not do that yesterday so......
We are doing the last couple of things before my old washer and dryer get pulled out. Dh is going to build a platform for the new HE front loaders. We have already figured out that made the regular size of the ones in the store.....they would be too high. This would be ok but my machines sit in a small alcove with bi-fold doors in a hall-way. I have no where to fold except the top of the machines. So, there goes a little convenience.....but they will be higher than ( by a fair amt. ) if they were just left on the floor. Always a little spice in the mix somewhere huh ????
I know you are all delighted hearing about this...so I'm going to go and find some trouble to get into to maybe. See you all later.
Hugs, Jackie

Donna - That's awful about your friend's son. OMGawd...the pressure on kids these days is awful. Glad you had a nice time with your Dad.
BJ - Oh no! Girl...I am so sorry about your fall. Yikes...rotator injuries are so painful. Years ago I fell at work. I got a hair line fracture in the shoulder...hate to say it but...it took FOREVER to heal. Dang...I hope yours heals faster than mine. Hang in there.
Wendrew - Lilac...ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...love it! I buy pure Lilac essential oil and mix it with olive oil and use it as a body lotion. It is awesome!
-------------------------------------------------
My arm is doing really well. My thumb however, is not cooperating! It's swollen 100% of the day. I need to PM Binney for some advice.
Wow...it is a scorcher today. Hope your all soaking some of it up!

Hi All,
Buddy, so sorry to hear about your father. I'll keep him in my prayers.
Had a great time at the BBQ yesterday. My dad was doing wonderful since he had the IV therapy last week. I am so excited. My mom was doing well too (she had a massive stroke 2 1/2 years ago).
I just have to tell you all what my mom said. It's one of those crazy things that people say to you or about you while you have cancer. Luckily I am one of those people who laughs things off, plus I know she didn't mean any harm. So my mother says to her cousin, "Carolyn is looking forward to chemotherapy". Ok, who in their right mind looks forward to chemotherapy????? I know what she meant - that it's the next step, but I couldn't help but say I am not looking forward to chemotherapy! My sister and I had a good laugh and I'm still laughing about it. Thought you guys might also. If we're not getting injured in my family we're having a good laugh!
Take Care!
Carolyn
