Good morning ladies!  Welcome to carolynlemont, Dawn, and determined.  You have found a good place to "camp out" while going through this journey.  When it's all over, you'll have found such good friends on this thread that you'll probably stay around like many of us have done.  So come often, share, vent, laugh and mingle with us.  We'll be here for you!  It's amazing how strong the bond becomes between breast cancer sisters!

LET'S TRY THIS AGAIN TODAY..................HAPPY BIRTHDAY CONNIE!  ENJOY YOUR DAY AND CELEBRATE IN STYLE!!!!!!   Love ya!

Annette, I have thought of you often and was glad to see your post.  Wow!  You've had just one thing after another.  You're due for a reprieve!!!!   Hugs to you.  Hang in there and keep us posted about your progress.  I'm sending up prayers for granddaughter Grace and you, too.

I'm still missing my kitty.  Yesterday I went to the County Animal Control center to see if she'd appeared there.  No Miss Sissy!  I guess it's time to move on and assure myself that I helped her have a good four years instead of dwelling on "what might have happened to her."

Dawn, you have an excellent surgeon and are in good hands with her.  She was the surgeon for several of my friends.  I also went to Peoria for surgery but had the other female breast surgeon there, who was also fantastic.  When I finish here, I am going to send you a PM so check your private messages.  Everyone has given you good advice.  It's all so overwhelming right now that you just need to go one step at a time and one day at a time.  You can do it!

I enjoyed being a lazy butt yesterday so much that I think I'll do the same thing today.  We have our end of the year golfing dinner tonight and other than that, it's just "puttzing" around the house today for me and doing those things I've been ignoring for weeks.

Hugs to all of you.  I hope you are all having a good day.............especially our birthday girl!!!

    Rita,

I am sorry to hear that Miss Sissy still has not put in an apperance.  I think you are wise to let it go as much as you can.  I think I mentioned once ( when we lived in California -- everyone kept a window or two down on their car it seemed ) our black cat --- who was fond of sleeping in our car when he wanted a nap, apparently decided to take one in someone else's.  We don't know how far away he ended up, but did not see him again for almost two months.

When he got home the pads of his feet were so very worn looking.  I paid attention as shortly after he got back ( we also left our back doors wide open many times ( not much for flies ), he jumped down from the table and went outside. I though he was about to wander away again and was a bit upset......then noticed his head tilted at a funny angle right above the ground.  He was licking up ants.  Apparently that is part of the way he kept himself alive and getting enough protein for strength to get back home.

Long story and sorry if it is a repeat for anyone.  We had already gotten another cat but were thrilled that Little Black Boy chose to come home under what must have been pretty difficult circumstances.  I only say this Rita...because a fair amt. of time could pass........but in the meantime, I think you will only keep your melancholy alive with the energy of missing her.  You are so right as well........you gave her every bit as much a reason to treasure her time spent with you and what a supreme pleasure to know you brought joy and comfort and even better health.  There is a time, a reason, and a season and sometimes we don't know very well which is which.

    Hugs, Jackie

Thanks to both Jackie and Kater for your kind words, reassurances, and comforting thoughts about Ms. Sissy.  We animal people just seem to understand things like this!  Hugs to both of you.  You're both so special!

Praying for little Grace as well.  My aunt had a sinus infection go to her brain many years ago, since then I panic every time someone in the family has a stuffy nose.  Crazy I know but I have seen it happen and it is very scary!

Thanks so much everyone for the warm welcomes.  Today has been the most stressful of days so far, maybe it's just everything coming together finally.

    Praying for Little Grace!

I had my first meditation session today and it went very well.  It was at the Botanic Garden and there were  distractions but the environment was perfect and I learned a lot.

off topic: Good luck to Annette's Granddaughter who was in ICU last night.

    Cancer in the family:

I think Annette mentioned removing some female parts and thus no cancer there.

I might have mis read her intent.

I wanted to remind anyone that gets their ovaries out, that there is still 2 ? percent chance of getting ovarian cancer. Also, if the whole fallopian tube is not removed or something??

I ran into a girl in my mom's chemo room that 10 years ago her sister died of ovarian cancer so she had her ovaries out. Her doctor NEVER HAD HER TEST ..she thought she was clear of such due to the surgery. What kind of a doctor would not keep following up or making the patient aware of this small percentage of a chance?

.there is a test for ovarian CA 125 (like our bc ca 2729), at minimum I would get that yearly and I was also getting an ultrasound yearly just to make sure (and subsequently I got bc). My Mom is still fighting ovarian since 1998 and is in her 3 year long 3rd recurrence and now has additional primary. She was just switched to taxotere, we'll see how that goes. Every day is a blessing.

She is NOT BRCA positive. I hope your insurance pays for it. Before I decided on what kind of surgery, medicare paid for my Mom to have brca testing, and I paid 1500 to speed up the test so i could decide whether to have lumpectomy, luckily she was negative so I opted for the easier route.

Annette there are other girls here that had mothers or relatives with ovarian cancer.

Someone else mentioned Align (I get it at cosco fairly reasonable, i havent checked the price at www.Canadadrugs.com), My mom is taking that now and there is also florastor that she took before that. Align you only have to take once a day. I do not know how this compares to the refrigerated probiotics my holistic person was having me take, that was about 60 dollars a bottle at fruitful yield.

Happy Belated birthday to Connie!  Sounds like you had a busy day.

My heartfelt prayers for little Grace.  I have a granddaughter about the same age and can really relate.  Sure hope that she is responding to treatment.

Susan/Zap... would like to hear more your meditation session.

Welcome to the newbies.  You will find alot of support here.

I just got home from a very long day at a seminar in Lisle and cannot wait to get to bed.  I just had to check in here and catch up first!

Joan, I went to  meditation  with a friend (who has BC)and it was provided through the Cancer Wellness Center in my town, Northbrook. They have other centers in Illinois and may have one near you. The advantage is that they are free and you can "drop-in" and not sign up and pay for a series and then miss some because of work or other commitments.

I was initially worried that everyone having cancer as the criteria (any kind of cancer)  would be a disadvantage, but the session yesterday did not prove that to be true.  "Cancer" was rarely brought up and when it was, it was actually comforting in that you knew everyone in the group got it.  It was not belabored at all.  I think the facilitators are trained to keep it that way and to help redirect people when they are too focused on the illness and not the reason for being there.  They have yoga classes, tai chi, and guided meditation. I can only speak for this one meditation class, but it was most helpful to me and I will stay with it.

I continue to think about little Grace.  The thought of a child in the hospital is a trouble some thought.  I so hope she is on her way to wellness.

    Wendyty, hope all is well.

Rita, maybe someone else is caring for the cat.  I know that is a naive thought on my part, but it would help me move on.  I too would be so sad and the thought of you going to the animal shelter and searching the cages for her just nearly breaks my heart.

     Take care!

    Susan

Hi everyone.. I really wish I could meet everyone at the walk!!  But vacation calls... Hopefully many can make lunch on the 8th!!   SOOO.. guess whos formula was affected by today's recall.. YEP.. ALL of ours.. and we had enough to not have to buy anymore until she's 1.. :(  Luckily we got free samples when she was born of other types so have to feed her those until we come back from the trip.. I think I'm packed.. but with my lovely chemo brain.. who knows..

Welcome to all the new girls.. I was just there 7 months ago, and here I am growing lashes and brows.. and a bit of hair.. It gets better so quickly... I'm in a different boat, so had to change my whole life style around in hopes of preventing a recurrance...

Wend to see a surgeon on Tues.. he was 2.5hr late.. then his recommendation is a mx with recon and level 1 and 2 node disection (so 25 or more nodes).. I am freaking out.. so decided to wait 'til my next scan in Oct.. then think about things again.. but like he said.. at least I'm in a place to consider things now.. much better than the alternative..

Ladies, Thank you all for the prayers for Grace. She was in surgery yesterday for 3 hours.  1 1/2 hours with the neurosurgeon and another 1 1/2 with ENT.  The neuro guy put a burr hole in skull at hairline on forehead and drained all the infection out between the skull and brain and put in 2 drains and then the ENT cleaned out all the sinus cavities.  The swelling of her forehead is so rare there have on been 25 reported cases since 2007.   Her hospital is a teaching hospital and they had all interns and residents come see her the night she was admitted and the morning before surgery since it was so rare they might never see it again. She came thru the surgery well and was taken to peds ICU and they did not have to keep her on ventilator which they thought might have to happen.  She was allowed food today and by this afternoon was moved to a regular room and was sitting up for a little which drawing with markers.  She tires out quickly but hopefully on road to recovery.  They are saying a week in the hospital.  The drains come out tomorrow.  They found 2 different kinds of bacteria in the infection and are culturing them to make sure they are using best antibiotics to get rid of the infection.  She cannot go home until the infection is under control and can be managed with oral antibiotics for about 6 weeks. We are very  thankful she is doing so well  Annette

Yay Grace.  Now we can all let our breath out.

Onward, go up the page to the tool bar up there.  It should have a word --- bookmark, or favorites.  Mine has favorites and you can put this in a folder.  Another box comes up for me and I press that and everything I want to get into quickly and w/o effort just goes in one list which is already named.

Hmmm, I'll have to work on that Rita......I'll find something good for you.

Marina --- enjoy that long awaited vacation.  You have REALLY earned this one.

Hi to all the rest of my great friends.

    Off to work.

    Hugs, Jackie
