Morning! Wow.....cool out but so sunny and beautiful now that the leaves are changing!
Just wanted to stop by and say a big "YAY !!!!!" to Carolyn for being done with chemo!
And no rads? Lucky girl!!!!!!Yeah...I remember the down fuzzies....that came first and fell out and then the hair poked its head out. I think the fuzzies were sorta like the first wave, doing a little reconn to check to see if it was safe to come out! Mine came out a bit curly/wavy but it didn't last. It grew back a bit thicker so that was nice to see. Don't do what I did tho....start checking under your arms! I was half-way thru rads before I noticed that it had grown back. I was mortified. I actually apologized to the rad techs!
Gotta scoot....lots on the agenda today....hope you all get a chance to get out and enjoy our wonderful fall weather. And Jackie....your hot dish for tonight will be very welcome!

I have heard of him but I never took any illustration courses. I believe that's what he teaches.

Quite blustery outside! Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr...Winnie-the-Pooh day, for sure!

When did it become fall. I remember going in for my surgery an it being hot and summer (4.5 weeks ago). Now its cool, blustery, leaves have really turned color and many are blowing on the ground.
But I did get my morning walk (only 50 minutes today) in!

Have posion ivy again., now on my face. MY DH was screaming as I was in the thick of cleaning the back yard etc and I got carried away and WHAM! He kept warning me and I just kept on goin.. now i am hiding it from him..hehehe.
Rain and more rain and colder temps.. went for a massage, what else can one Pink Princess do on such a day...lolol. The walk i did needed to be rubbed out too!!! My posture is very bad and it is from my recon sugery.. my shoulders cannot stay back at all and therapist gave me some speciific stretching excercises to do on a door jamb.
Hope ALL else is ok.Lago.. THINKING OF YOU!! Good wishes to all!!!

Donna I know the exercise but I didn't have to do that one. My posture was great after about a 1.5 weeks.
Went to a wig place today. The wigs this guy recommended for me are $800-$1000 for synthetic! I have a feeling there is a decent markup for all his service. Thing is I really don't need that much hand holding. I can read instructions on who to care for the wig. I'm thinking of purchasing one online if I can find a place that has nicer wigs. I can get it styled once I get it. Anyone recommend a place? I just can't justify all that $$ for something I will only have for a year.
Don't get me wrong I really think this guy knows his stuff. If I were to go this route this is the guy I'd use. I do trust his knowledge and judgement… although he does talk a lot.

Hi everybody. I am in Florida visiting Navyson, DIL and grandbaby. Feeling better mentally than I have in a month at least. Must be the baby love. DH and I did an overnight babysit last night. I am exhausted. I forgot how much work a moving baby can be. He is in that "rolling stage and moves all the time. A good work out for me even though I haven't been to the gym in 5 days!
Just wanted to pop in and say congrats to those finishing chemo and to those celebrating milestones.
I will be home in time to attend the lunch on the 8th. See You then

Lago... I got my wig from a great place in McHenry called Kathleen's Creative Expresssions, www.kcexpressions.net. Kathy was great at helping me choose something before I lost my hair. I had to order it and when it came in, I went back and she styled it to match my last hairstyle as close as possible. I've had many compliments on it. I think it was only about $400 including the styling and my insurance, UHC, paid for 80%. I mostly wear scarves, but it is nice to have when I want to look a little "normal", whatever that is these days.
The hair is still coming in pretty slow and fuzzy. I'm not seeing any curls but then it is not long enough to curl. I wouldn't know what to do with curls either. I DO know what to do about white hair though and I think that it is looking rather white!
Have a great weekend. Looks like we have some beautiful fall days ahead next week.

Hi all:
There is a woman in Wisconisn who is also working on reaching Irina. I have her Irina's last name and she is trying to get her place of residence. With privacy issues so strict, it helps to have the last name as I am not even sure we could just visit her if we don't even have her last name. The phone number Irina spoke from does not give any leads as to where she is and the Wisconsin woman said she was waiting (as of last night) for a return call from her daughter. I do not feel comfortable calling the daughter, but if anyone wants to try, I will pm the information I have so far. What a terrible tragedy. I have an address and phone number in Highland Park, but it is a home residence (not a nursing home) and as I say, a return call was not made as of last night, although she spoke with someone there about Irina (maybe the sil)
I know Navymom what you are saying. I spent another day today with the two grandkids and they are quick! I love them dearly but is easier to take care 25 8th graders than it is two babies. Older kids can walk, talk, use the bathroom and can stay with a toy for more than five minutes. I do have to say that you sound WONDERFUL and just happy and at peace!
Lago, I went to a place in Skokie for my wig. I spent $600 on my wig and it ws better-looking (by far) than my own hair. I know you can get them for less. I went to Jeromes in Skokie and they have been in the business for years as they create wigs for Orthodox Jews in the area. If you want to trek up here, I will give you more information.
I ordered my drapes (on a more trivial note) and we are set to go. We need to paint the living room and my DH is taking a three-day weekend to do that over Columbus Day holiday. I am helping him (well, supervising the operation and keeping him on task) so I will not be able to make the lunch. It sounds like it will be a wonderful one with new people and some us "veterans" and I know it will be memorable. Have fun.

Yes I have heard of http://www.jkfashionhair.com/home.htm So you were really happy with them. I had heard a few negative things. I'm still going to see what I can find online.

"If anyone can get this goin here is Laura.. she is like a tenacious terrior when she has a sister in need!!!!"
Oh Donna...that is the absolute BEST compliment I have ever received! Thank you sister, and YES...I am hot on the trail! lol
-------------------------------
Girls...I don't mean to sound bossy but, why, oh why, would you pay hundreds of dollars for a wig that you will use for a few months? I paid $49 each for my 3 wigs and everyone could not believe how good/natural they looked. Honestly, I got many compliments! PaulaYoung.com...I purchased 8 wigs, had them delivered, tried them on (in the luxury of my own mirror), kept 3 and returned the rest. It was the best buying experience. Just my opinion!

On a serious note: I am very concerned. I haven't shared this because I have been in denial. In July, I noticed my tummy was abnormally swollen. August, September and now October...it has gotten worse. Honestly, I look as though I am 6 months preggo. I am extremely concerned....I googled "it" and my fear is at an all time high. What I've read is: Liver Mets and/or Ovarian Cancer. I am so afraid to confront this...my 6 month Onc appt was scheduled in August...I have cancelled every appt. I just cannot bring myself to deal with this. Total whimp...yes I am.0

Laura,
I pm'd you the information on Irina for what it is worth and I then saw your post. In my heart I believe you will be fine, but you will not know that until you go to a doctor and find out that you indeed okay. I will be the first to tell you that the mind can play terrible tricks on us and move us into the worse case health scenario.
I contacted Wendy a few weeks back when I was sick as I can only deal with one person at a time and I liked her fort concept! Wendy walked me through with emails as I endured CT, ultra sounds and many appointments with doctors. My doctor is so intuitive and explained to me that self-talk can lead to dramatic symptoms that actually reflect less serious diseases. In my case I have IBS (almost embarrassing as I thought I had mets as well). Wendy encouraged me to just see a doctor and get some answers and deal with whatever it is that is wronging my body. She, along with Paul, was actually my coach as I walked around scared with the fears of the unknown.
My mantra became, "It is what it is, so find out what it is so you can get back to living without fear of the unknown." So call that doctor and keep that appointment and deal with fears. Everyone on this thread gets what you are feeling and will support you as you go forward.

On a serious note:Here is something almost as bad as Ovarian Cancer or Liver Mets --- walking around every day thinking you have it. Go find out please before you THINK it into existence --- there is a saying -- you are what you think. When you DWELL on this --- I think you can accidentally give your body permission. Mind, body and spirit work together --- does not this come up in your alternative medicine Laura. Please go find out what is going on -- then you can line up your mind, body and spirit to all be in harmony with one another. Please.
Hugs, Jackie

I'm sorry you read that Laura, and am sad that you're so worried.
My belly protrudes as well. I've always been slender (120) and have not gained or lost more than 3 lbs. either direction since surgery / during treatments. Yet my belly is still distended. I've actually never considered it could be anything "bad". I chalk it up to bloating / water retention and steroids. I will speak to my onc. about it this week - just because it annoys me and I hate feeling chubby. Maybe I'm naive but I always just assume the best. I hope you can get some reassuring answers soon - that will bring you peace {hugs}

Laura: My belly swelled after surgery. It went down a little but I do find that it blows up again depending on what I eat. It also isn't flat like it used to be. This has been slowly going on for the past few years… and I'm thin. I chock it up to being peri-menopausal. During/after menopause we women tend to put weight on in our middle. We also tend to have a few more digestive issues like gastritis and IBS. (I do have IBS).
What I'm saying is don't panic. I bet you go to the doctor and he says you have gas. There are so many other causes for swollen stomach that are not life threatening (although may need to be treated like an ovarian cyst). Go to the doctor and assume the best. As we get older we are going to have these little things pop up and they won't be cancer.

Morning! Have no idea of the temp as my wireless therm. is not working....hopefully its just the battery and its not frozen! But I did see that it will be up in the 80's by next weekend so don't put those shorts away!
Laura....Jackie's right. You are sitting there, 3 MONTHS later....assuming that you have mets/OC so isn't that just about as bad? You can't fight the unknown. We have a 2 week rule I thought, not a 3 month rule. Please call tomorrow and make that appt....please? I do know that about 1.5yrs ago I noticed my belly getting bigger but it was gradual. Mine looks like about a 3-4month preganancy most of the time but mine I guess is the old menopause belly. You start to shrink and the excess skin/fat/"stuff" had nowhere to go but out. You are much younger than me but this could also explain a few things. It is what it is.....now put on your big girl panties and find out what "it" is. You are one of the strongest people I know and you can do this. If you need some help or someone to go with you.....you have lots of people here, just waiting.
Wigs......I found wigs.com. I have LOTS of them! Pricing was higher than Paula Young but not too bad. Just check their return policy and go ahead and join their club (its free) BEFORE you order....you get a discount for being in the club. And I do have some color sample wheels if you need to check the color. Any hairdresser can style it for you but I found except for one, they all looked pretty good. Check them out....really cute styles! I loved mine....
Looks like the lunch on Friday will be fun....and I will get to meet some of you which I am really looking forward to. Don't have anything on the agenda for today except to get out and enjoy the sunshine. Next week I have something everyday so I will just enjoy the quiet. Well...the quiet that only comes from DH sitting in front of the TV, watching football all day and I hear the Bears play tonight. Lucky me, lucky me.......

Lago....we were posting at the same time!
See Laura.....you are fine....just becoming a fat, old lady like us!
OK....you are NOT fat nor are you OLD....

Hugs sweetie.....just get an answer, ok?

1 more thing. Laura I don't know how old you are but I'm 49. I've been watching my body change through my 40's. First it was the knees and thighs now the stomach. I can't wait to be able to do crunches again. It helps.

Laura-I'm with the others, wondering and living in fear everyday is not good. Get it checked out and fight whatever it is! Remember : ILLINOIS GIRLS ARE TOUGH!!!!! Big hugs to you!

Can anyone tell me why all of a sudden my screen on this thread is now 1/2 of the page is the name/avatars and the other half is the posts. Is there a setting I need to adjust?
Thanks

Michele,
I'm not sure if this is the problem but Rita and I both had screens that were only using part of a page and I found one day that by going up to the tool bar on your page here and hitting the word page....a list dropped down. If you check the one that says compatibility -- it will re-expand your page to regular size. I hope this is what your problem is as I put up with that for so long and absolutely hated it.

LAURA...make the appt.I will go with you if you want support! It could be totally intestinal.. and colon area...are there any changes in that area and food digestion issues???We will jump to the worse conclusion as that is what BC did to us. GET to a DR and make the appt first thing so you can take this back and move on. You will be ok.
laqo... I spent under $50.00 and got two or three wigs thu the american cancer society and everyone said that it looked so natural on me. why spend alot when you can get more for the money and have some fun!!! I likes various lengths and did some outside the box looks!!! Just my thoughts.
talk soon..off to church and a great women;s devotions class.... be well today ALL!!!
Hugs,
Donna

Thanks...I will call my Onc tomorrow. It's weird, I have developed a severe phobia of going to the Onc's office building. The first few years after dx, I ran to the Dr with every little ache and pain. Now, the opposite is true. As for the tummy...I'm not constipated, bm's are normal. It's not gas, and I don't think it's simply fat. Actually my tummy is hard, not flabby. Weird...and yes, concerning. Oh well...it's always something.

Glad your craps are normal ;D
I've always hated going to the doctor. Always a real time suck. You go get 15 minutes of the doctors time but end up spending at least 30+ minutes waiting, checking in etc. Then there is travel time getting out of the parking lot (or waiting for the train). Hours just wasted.
Keep us posted Laura. I might be MIA tomorrow and definitely Tuesday. Monday is port day and Tuesday is chemo day. Speaking of doctors and time suck. Need to be at Rush at 5:45 in the morning but the surgery isn't till 7:30. I know it doesn't take that long to get my vitals and change into a gown.

lago - Best wishes to you. It's better to be first on the list - first in, first out. Try to check in and let us know how things went.

Tell me about it. I was one of last for the BMX/TE but still had to be there by 7:30. They didn't start till after 2. I was starving & thirsty.
