Illinois ladies facing bc

Snehlata I'm not Christian either so we don't do much but one thing is a tradition. We go to Chinatown and have Chinese food on Christmas Eve. This is a Jewish tradition… I'm not kidding.

BTW would anyone consider doing the Illinois holiday meet up in Chicago? I fould find something that would be easy acces to the Metra or some place that has parking if people rather drive. It sounds like Chicago is in the middle of north and south suburbanites so I just thought I might suggest this… granted of course it's easier for me. Granted I can't do it on the 18th because it's my niece's Bat Mitzvah. Also the 11th is 5 days after chemo so I don't know how I will feel. I might need a back up organizer just in case my schedule doesn't work.

Yes Lago you are right. You like chineese food ? I will plan that way to go to Mainland China here. We have the liberty to express what in our mind through this thread otherwise how we will know each other. This idea is fantastic. I agree.

I love all Asian food: Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese. I know great places in Chicago for all those listed.
I also love Indian and Pakistani food. One of my favorite restaurants on Devon is this Pakistani restaurant: http://www.sabrinihari.com/
I live behind Hemas Kitchen (Indian) in Lincoln Park but they have toned down the heat a bit. The Chicken Vindaloo isn't as hot/spicy as it should be. My net door neighbor is Indian so our hallway smells great… when she doesn't burn the food or set fire to the dish towel ;-) Sweet lady but she tends to forget she has things on the stove at times.
So I guess you could say I like just about all Asian food.

Wow, it is fabulous. There are so many Indians settled /migrated to many countries, but they still follow the same tradition of cooking Indian Way. Tradition ! it is great thing. I am Indian but our food habit is totaly different from Indian food. We love more of boiled, steam, smoke, less oil, But our family used to have Indian way. I never visit to any foodcourt as I prefer cooking myself whether good or bad, we compromised everything inside the house only.

Well the only Jewish food I cook is sweet & sour cabbage soup (made some Saturday). Even my chicken soup is vegetable chicken soup although starts of like traditional Jewish chicken soup. (Making that today).
I actually don't like most Jewish food… it's unhealthy anyway. Except of course the other Jewish food… Chinese :b

Good morning everyone,
Wendy --- I did hear about that Twinkie diet and was amazed -- more so on the cholesterol and other issues rather than the wt. loss itself. Doing wt. watchers points is similar -- if you keep your calories down and exercise etc. Also Jerrod ( sp? ) that ate Subway. Don't know if they did any tests on cholesterol etc.
I did wt. watchers once and did well.....but the fact is in truth....I was always hungry and I do mean always...no matter what I tried or how much protein ( which tends to give you a full sensation ) I got into my diet. It has been slow ( lots of waiting in between plateau's ) but little by little....I am losing. I am down to 179#'s now -- a loss of 41 pounds since I started chemo in Dec 2008. I did not really want it to be this slow......but was surprised to lose any once I started Arimidex. Hanging in there and usually not hungry.
Leaves, leaves everywhere....and this is about the time ( with our two acres ) that we get a little discouraged. One more big effort at it and maybe Dh can take the lawn sweeper out for what is left. Sure hope that will finish us for this season.
Wendy -- it is moderation.....though for quick wt. loss one might lay in nothing but a small supply of Twinkies --- if I did that I don't think I could look one in the face for a long, long time.
I'll be checking back in later. Great to see a post from you Mich.....I miss all of you if you don't post....I don't forget about you, but know sometimes things get busy.
Hugs, Jackie

lago ! well is there any restriction on food according to Jewish ? You know why I am asking I want to know because we all are one as a human being but devided by our tradition. This I don,t agree. That ,s why I always mixed up with different peoples. I can adjust with any one wherever I go. I really feel doing so.

Illinois Nancy I am sure you are in shock yet...... I can't imagine what you are feeling. It sounds like you have full confidence with your health team and that is so important. Where are you being treated? I will keep you in prayer. As you said Live life to the fullest. Hard when your head is full of worry but you feel strongly about it as it is part of your mantra right now. Take care
This breast cancer things seems to make us slow down re-evaluate and reflect on a continuous basis and maybe that is a good thing.

Yes there are food restriction but I don't follow them. If I did that would mean no pork, shell fish, fish without scales and only animals with cloven hooves (except pigs). You can't mix dairy and meat either. I believe Muslims follow something very similar although some are vegetarians. There are other rules to Kosher eating but I'm not religious.
I love learning about other cultures. Maybe this is why I like non American food so much.

off topic
we have a new cortland animal hospital opening, i love Dr. ASkew, she worked in maple park before...her mom was an oncology nurse and I feel she will be fair and is also a good vet.
I met her when I was going through BC treatment.
She took care of my Munchkin cat (bottlefed orphan baby) when he fell off a house beam onto a fishing lure (surgery)....Tank dog when he got bit by a wild animal...etc etc. The open house is this Saturday, Before you get to Dekalb, there is a little town called Cortland.
She is on facebook but doesnt have a web site yet:
815.748.8040 Cortland Animal Hospital the open house is 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, I hope to go.
Anyway, I was posting to ask Jackie and others, how do I tame this wild cat i have in my spare bedroom? I have been able to touch it but it runs...it got out of the coyote trap I caught it in....I need to get it in a smaller cage so I can get its shots, tested, etc.

Hi Gals - Sorry I haven't been posting, major this and that going on...had appt. in Chicago with Dr. Neil Fine at NWU....I have options!!!! Ha!, who knew, right? Ab infection due to braided sutures they used to pull me all together inside, infection is localized and adhereing to them, they'll come out Jan. 7th and I'll have fat grafting in right breast to ready it for an expander (had them in 2006), need to create more padding for inplant and alloderm. All in all, very EXCUTED and pleased with outcome of appt. and PS professionalism and bed side manner not to mention his expert knowledge of "what it was" that had my abs absessing and creating pain and major tighness, ahh, I can breathe a sign of relief and am happy to know I can continue moving forward....Nancy - my thought and prayers go with you, I enjoy your posts and am saddened to hear of your news...gentle hugs go to you....other ladies, I hope we can continue to share our stories, likes, dislikes and everyday experiences and tales.... :-)0

Onetoughwoman 47 So that is great news about Dr. Fine being able to figure it out. Has he had a lot of experience with the fat grafting? My PS does not want to do that to fill in rippling I don't think and I am thinking that is what is needed.
Have a peaceful evening everyone

Kater -- to tame a feral/wild cat takes a great amt. of patience. Best way I know is to close the cat in a room with just you......for however long you choose to devote each day. The trick is to let the cat come to you and seek attention. Cats are curious and though it may seem to take a long time.....once the cat "chooses" you -- as opposed to your trying to make it let you near, they are pretty much ok then. Many will let you touch. I am able to pet a few of the feral cats I feed, but I can tell in their body carriage and somewhat tense stance, they would not stand for any attempt to 'pick them up' in any way. If I had them in MY environment......then, we would have to change that, but I am in their's. It makes a difference.
Patience and no quick movements is the key.......
Long day fighting leaves, doing Maggie's, feeding ferals -- now at home I have bathrooms that need cleaning.....and a little work in kitchen and living room....and time to change bed linens. Than, bath and tv. Sounds like I'd better get on it. See you all tomorrow.
Hugs, Jackie

Hello~~ Ladies~!!
WendyK- I did watch Sex and the city 2 and I loved it.. just what I needed at night, after kids went to bed and dh was at work, just ME time.. I could totally related to the story.. and it reminds me and my friends when I was in Vegas... dang, that was good time.. I like that gold sparkle shoes too.. Maybe I gotta find one similar to that.. When Carrie told Big, they need a sparkle, I think that's what me and dh need... I still like to dress up and go out have fun but dh likes to sit back and stay home... Our 8th anniversary is coming up soon and I think we can do little sparkle, right??

Nancy- I am sorry that you have to go through this journey again... I think we all have that fear and hoping that we don't have to face it again... hang in there...
Marina- Welcome home~!! I am glad you had wonderful time and got to see some of the condos and found one... So, when is the house warming party??
Onward- What a great get away you had... Just what you needed it too..
Lago- I LOVE your idea having get together at Chicago since you know so many good place to eat~~ I LOVE downtown Chicago.. I know you are very creative but also not afraid to try something new and also like variety but you know what do you like, I think...
I really want to go holiday get together but it's dh's mid working day... and he will sleep until 3pm to go to work that night and I gotta watch the kids while dh is sleeping too... so , guess I can't go..

Lago, mixing diary with meat/fish is not allowed for us too mainly because of staying away from white patches . Pork is not permitted in our culture, but some other culture allows. You know, India is a mosaic of different caste & community. Majority seems goes to Hindus, then christian, muslim, Jains OMG I cant count , so many dialects. Even in my state there are 32 dialects, we communicate either in English or native common language, but food habit is somewhat similar.

Morning....dark and 32 on my deck....not too bad for mid November!
Sneh......I LOVE hearing about India! How interesting! Do you have any pictures to post?
Onetough....well, you got answers! Finally! Sounds like you have a wonderful team behind you so you will do well....the team is the key!
BJ.....thanks for the evite! Evite! Who knew!!!!!! I am gonna use that in the future....
Elf...gold sparkle shoes can be found at DSW by Madden for $59.95...they are a knock-off. I tried them on and they are so cute! But no, I didn't buy them. Maybe you could ask one of your friends to watch your boys for the holiday party? And then you could return the favor for them? We would really miss you! Yes....we all need some sparkle in our life.
Jackie....yeah, I guess I would get tired of twinkies every day. But not the Fritos! I so love fritos. I treat myself to a small lunch size bag every vacation. Maybe I will go crazy next time I go grocery shopping and buy a BIG bag....you only live once! Boy....you have done so well on your diet! You lost it all the right way....very slowly. It will tend to stay off now.....
Kater....sorry, don't know anything about feral cats. Sounds scary for you tho....be careful!
This is off-topic for sure but just wanted to give you girls a warning. You know how they post road signs, warning you about how bridges/overpasses freeze first? Well....pay attention! I was on my way to the gym early yesterday, just going over a rr bridge and I hit black ice. I spun the SUV around and ended up facing the right direction but on the wrong side of the road. Wouldn't have been a big deal but thru the windshield I looked up and saw a gravel truck, speeding right towards me. He managed to swing around me, missing me by inches. If I had been thru that section maybe 2-3 seconds later I doubt that I would be here this morning. So....be very careful these mornings.....there is a glaze now on the streets. Guess it just wasn't my time....
I am in a thankful, happy mood this morning so I am skipping the gym and going downstairs to start the holiday decorating a bit early....time for Christmas and the joy it brings. Fa la la la la.....

snehlata That makes. Seems all the Indian people I have known or worked with including teachers and doctors have spoken English… and I am not not talking about the ones born here. Most of the Indian people I know are Hindus but I do have one friend that is Christian. She was born here. I think her family left India party because of being Christian. Not sure.
I would love to go to India some day as well as many other places in SE Asia. Well maybe all of Asian. The middle east would be on my list too but I'm afraid many of the places would be unsafe for me to visit being both American and have an extremely Jewish last name. Hope some day before I get old there will be some piece in that area.
elf_song I'll try and see if I can plan a get together after the holidays. Let see if I keep my taste buds. If not it will have to be after treatment. My last is supposed to be Jan. 18th… and that's not that far away. I'm off to treatment #3 in an hour. Time to let them mess me up again ;-)

Determined - YES!..and a real pleasure to deal with, professional and I had the opportunity to speak with a few ladies in the waiting room before I saw him..THIS MAN knows what he's doing and I also think that YOU need to make sure you do your homework and research, he actually commended me on comming into him prepared and obviously knowing full well what I wanted, expected and realized, ok, we start over, so let's get on with it...very much the same from him. I like direct and professional, NOT PERSONAL as some PS's do, I had 3 thus far that took me as a patient and decided that THEY would DOP what THEY wanted...gave me no options and then left me for dead...ha, whatever anyone does, do not seek out help with Mercy Hospital in Janesville WI, University of WI in Madsion and any bozo claiming to be a PS and tells you more of what they want instead of what it is YOU WANT! Boy have I learned and am a happier woman for it....ahhh, when your weak and in ditress in one's life, how so many can take advantage of you and your kind nature...HIHO SILVER>>>>>>>>>AWAY!!!! I'm off to a better place and time with Dr. Fine!!!!

Wendyk13 - Thank you for your reply and oh yes, beware of those icy bridges...I hope you are okay, similar happened to me en route a few years ago going in for a fill in my expanders at Mercy in Janesville, WI, right on 90, white out and all and I hit black ice and a good stretch of it,
I turned my truck around 180 degrees and was very very lucky....shaken so bad once I got to the ps offc. they had to give me a seditive and I slept in exam rm for an hour....ladies be safe and be aware....god speed to you all with this upcomming winter season!Very excited now that I have found the "right" team and looking forward to surgery, believe it or not, I have to, this is what I finally have waited for and can enjoy the "fun" it will bring along the way to recovery and some good strong healing....

Good morning everyone.
Wendy -- wow !!!!! I think I'm going to thank the great universe today for protecting you. I think about things like that so often when the cold weather comes. It is the no warning--no time to even try to prepare thing. Thank goodness ---- it was not your time and the angels all around you kept you safe.
Elf --- you are a party girl --- out with hubby - housewarming -- you say give me my sparkle shoes and bring it on.
Going to have a grey day here which never pleases me -- worse when its chilly. Have an appt. on Friday with the Oncologist. Have a spot on my face --- started out like a pimple, got really reddish-pinkish, then dried a bit, looked a little like flaked skin, and now just a tiny pink smear area. Something I would have dismissed a long time ago.....but I think about it every time I look in the mirror now. Glad I had this appt.already set.
Onetoughwoman -- glad you found a good Dr. fit for yourself. So much better to easily work WITH someone. I did not have much choice going with the V.A. as I did, but got lucky as I got farmed out to Southern Illinois University and a magnificent female Oncology surgeon. Walked into her office and she just had an aura about her and one of the most confident and soothing bedside manners I've ever encountered. Things are looking up, arent't they!!!
Hope your feeling better Adey.
See you all later.
Hugs, Jackie
