I agree what a lovely group of ladies, I am glad you all had the chance to visit. Is it Illinois lady- love the D. Chopra quote today. So true for many-thinking of passing it on to someone else..heehee. Onward, I hope tomorrow is a better day for you! I am trying to keep up with all of you, for now I am reading along! Cathy

What a lovely picture of you four gals! Thanks so much for sharing!
Nancy, I have my fingers, toes, and everything else crossed for good results on your thyroid biopsy. Thinking of you! You are indeed due for a break, gal. How far are you from Peoria? I was over there yesterday.
Jackie...a great quote as usual. Thanks for keeping the quotes coming. I look forward to them each day and they do usually apply!
Kater, how's the wild cat coming along? It took me a LONG time to get Ms. Sissy tame enough to let me pet her when I brought out the food. I found it helped alot if I got down to her level, instead of talking to her from an upright position. I'm not sure I could have ever picked her up and put her in a cage or pen to get her to a vet.
Lisa Mom.... I love your avatar. I hadn't been on in a few days and was so glad to be able to put a face with your name. I'm sorry that you're having a setback. Hang in there! Hugs to you.
At this point it doesn't look like I'll make the holiday gathering. Our golf group's Christmas gathering is that evening. We always go out to dinner and then go back to somebody's house for a gift exchange and party. I don't think I'd make it back in time. I was hoping it'd make it this year. :-(
Susan....craft day with your grandchildren! What fun! These are the things that they will remember all their lives! What a neat grandma you are!
I'm off to wrap some more Christmas presents. I need to get the boys' presents wrapped so that if they go down the back hallway, they won't get an early Christmas sneak preview at Thanksgiving! Then of course, there is always laundry to be done around here!
I'll probably pop back on later. Sometimes it's nice to have an "at home" day!

LisaMom - I had some necrosis related the NSM. My breast surgeon took me in removed the nipple left the entire areola on the right and most of the left. I am wondering if your surgeon can tell you how much skin would need to be removed? Is it over a large area or smaller where they might just be able to remove part of it. I also had infections in both incisions. I stressed I did not want to lose the tissue expanders so she flushed me out on both sides and started me on antibiotics. So will probably depend if it is related to perfusion or infection.
Good luck I know this is a difficult time for you. I ended up with two surgeries related to the infection after the mastectomy but kept the tissue expanders. It forced the docs to think outside the box a little so don't be afraid to ask questions and advocate for yourself.
take care

Deterined, thanks for posting. It's a small area of skin, related to circulation, not infection. Like you, I also don't want to lose the TEs and start over. He is ready to move pretty fast on this, which is good, since at this point he says it is just the skin. Hopefully that will solve the problem.

Good morning... Had one of those hitting my head against the wall and getting no where days yesterday.. hoping something gets resolved today.. What I did learn is that I can NOT get the chicken pox vaccine due to immune system and probably herceptin.. but Gabs will be getting hers in a week, but I guess they checked with Infectious disease specialist and I should be OK..
I hope all who are going through complications and treatments are doing better.. I still have to decide when and what to do and get scared every day I read about these issues.. My port scar is red and inflamed and over-grown and my PCP told me the only way to fix it is surgery.. so I will live with it.. just as long as it stops hurting.. BUT, if this is a preview of what a reconstruction will be like.. UGH!! UGH! UGH!!

Good morning and BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! I hate this weather - I want to relocate! Off to the doc later this morning...minor complaints and need a R/X filled.
Nothing like starting my day with bad news: my youngest brother lives in Chicago - northwest side. He's a professional house painter (interior). His SUV - filled with ALL of his painting equipment (brushes, rollers, tarps, ETC!) was stolen from in front of his house last night. His SUV was in perfect condition, but old, so it's not worth much on paper. Horrible situation as he's been struggling to "keep afloat" during this horrendous economy. He learned from the police that there's been a rash of car thefts in his area as well as several home invasions and burglaries. I just wish my whole family would move out here by us. I am really worried about my Mom's safety. But convincing her to move...OMG!
I hope your day starts better than mine! Make it a good one.

LauraGTO so sorry about your brother. This economy has caused so much hardship for so many.
makmak many women go through reconstruction with no or minimal problems. Unfortunately some of us don't. Ask your PS what his/her rate of infection is.

I tend to agree with Determined about complications and reconstruction (although I have no personally undergone reconstruction). Marina, one tends to HEAR about problems when they occur as that is one of the purposes of this forum, to share and learn when problems occur. Most people who do not have problems do not bother to mention their successes.
Thoughts are with you, Nancy.
Laura, sorry about your brother's misfortune. Here he is... just going about his business and trying to make it all work and this happens. Not fair at all.
Just got finished doing my FIFTH revision on this little book I wrote and preparing myself for still another rejection. Actually, they don't reject it. They offer ways to revise it AGAIN! I think my family is taking it harder than I am. I am just glad the sucker is done and wouldn't mind shelving it for a very long time.
Have a good day, all.
Susan

Oh Laura, that's terrible about your brother's SUV. Unfortunately, I don't think your area is the only place this is happening. It seems to be running rampant just about everywhere. It upsets me to think that it's come to this in our country. :-(

Laura that really stinks for your brother. I know this stuff happens much to often here in the city. Usually they just take the stuff not the entire vehicle. Not that that would have been any better.

Lago, your idea of making a visit in SE asia is quite welcome. I already said India is just like mosaic of different colors. You won,t find any trouble visiting India. People out here are very openhearted and helpful irrespective of all caste and creed.Just give me a signal I will there for you and guide you. Everyday many people from all over the world are visiting India. Once you landed here I trust you will like it. The place where I am staying is North Eastern part of India, you can see Kaziranga National Park.. I know you will definitely like to see old monuments which has historical backgrounds..so many I am unable to explain here. You can visit Indian Embassy in your country to find out the right time to visit India.

Laura -- I'm sorry to hear about your brother's misfortune. That's a real shame. Hope he bounces back quickly.

Laura, its heartfelt sorry for your brother. It happens frequently in our place, once gone is gone there is no chance of return but we belief that the thief has not only taken our things but also our bad luck and good luck will be knocking once again at our door. He will take sometime to replenish the lost but see he will get good opportunity later.

Good evening everyone,
No time for posting this morning as I had to get myself to Marion fairly early. All went well, and though they won't know till sometime tonight....my last CA marker was 10. All the other blood work was fine......and so I'm good for another 3 months. Did not sleep well last night although it was not from worry over the Dr. visit. I don't actually get upset about that much anymore.....was more I think getting too tired. I accidentally fell asleep in my recliner for about 10 mins. and drat....I just couldn't seem to get comfy enough to sleep once in bed.
Laura...hope your Dr.? Dental visit went ok. That is lousy about your bro. Things like that actually are happening here and lately.....I guess some of the older folks have had people just showing up ( partly casing the place I think ) asking for work etc. It is not at all good city or rural areas......and I will be glad when we actually can see some actual job increases with matching stability.
Well, I'm running along as I'm bushed. Bet Dh is too.....he went with me....glad, the wind was horrid going up.
Hugs, Jackie

Joan, Laura, Jan Clare, Wendy - This is my blog I had told you about. I also post it on my FB. I asked my oncologist today about the radiation. He is recommending it but there is a very very small chance I could get away without doing it. I'm a little irritated. It seems like every time I think I'm getting closer to the end they throw something else at me.

Good evening~!!
Rene- Yes, I live in south part of Naperville (104th and plainfield/naperville rd).. Thanks for the offer and I am thrill~~ I am still trying to make it for holiday party... I didn't know your mother is Japanese.. I love udon and of course sushi~~ Can I ask you something?? how's you mother let you tried new Japanese food, since it's different than American food.. The reason I am asking, I want my kids to try different Asian food more.. they like udon noodle, seaweed and rice roll and beef lo-mein and Bulgoki.. sometimes they rather eat seaweed and rice roll than Mac & Cheese or pizza.. they do love their pot of rice I can tell you that.. I know brown rice is healthier than white rice but it's hard to change when you had for over 30 years and with seaweed, brown rice won't taste good..

Laura- What a lovely picture~~ thanks for sharing.. Sorry about your brother, I hope he will bounce back fast.. Hope your dental visit went well too..
Donna- Nipple Recon is nothing compare to what we've been through.. I've done it and it wasn't hard at all.. unfortunately, my nipple wasn't healing well so my ps chopped it off so now I have little bump.. ps asked me do I want to try again and I told him I am ok with it and just do a tattoo.. he was bit of surprised I said that..
Jackie- I saw that movie with dh few month ago.. dh watched years ago and he bought it at the store so he can watch again since he is big fan fo train and he likes casting on that movie (he used to be a conductor) and I cried.. I liked the movie.. I am glad your checked up went well and hope results are good..
Well, I want to write some more but dinner is calling me... BTW, dh had another interview this morning and if they wants him, we will be moving to TX.. we'll see what happen.. I never been in TX so I don't really know but I don't want to go there but dh wants to.. arggg..
I hope everyone else is doing well and I am always thinking about you ladies, day and night and sometimes in my dreams too..

Makmak - My port scar has been surgically revised and shot full of steroids several times over. The damn thing is still ugly, but it has marginally gotten better in the past 5 years. Until I had my mx, I'd never had any major incisions before. Who knew I was such a bad scarrer? My recon scars are not good, despite me having used the silicone strips. I even have raised scars from my laparascopic hysterectomy - and those are just little puncture incisions. The oddest thing is that my actual mx scar is virtually invisible. GO FIGURE! I think it's genetic, like stretch marks. African-Americans and Asians have a higher tendency for hypertrophic or keloid scarring, and I guess I won that particular gene.
I will tell you that the port scar actually HURT for the first few years. I'd get "zingers" of nerve pain in there all the time. But at this point, 5 years out, I don't feel it at all anymore, and it is smaller.
Elf_song - My mother usually made herself Japanese food, while she made American food for my dad and I. But I usually ate some of the Japanese food as well. My kids are actually bigger sushi eaters than I am. I'm kind of picky, and only like a few types, they'll eat just about any of it. One thing I wish that my mother had done was to teach me Japanese while I was growing up. It's almost impossible to learn as an adult, but I so wish I could speak it. She spoke broken English, so I did pick up bits and pieces, but I'm not conversational. So, I hope you try to pass on as much of the language to your kids while they're young. It might mean a lot to them when they grow up.

Just dropping in for a quick hello. My 3rd tx was Tuesday and I'm still doing great. I swear I must be doing something wrong. I don't seem to get as tired as everyone else on this entire forum. I'm working out too. My SE have been very manageable although the numb left heel can be annoying. BTW Metamucil is my new friend on day 3.
Elf_Song "sometimes they rather eat seaweed and rice roll than Mac & Cheese or pizza." That would be all the time for me. OK there are times I do crave the Lou Malnatis Pizza but I swear I was Asian in my last life. They used to tease me in grad school that I would cut up my hot dogs so I could eat them with chop sticks. (Granted I do believe in Thailand they use a fork & spoon).
rajkumari I would love to go to India and of course if I do ever make it I will ask your advice. Some day. First I need to get through chemo (1/2 done), get new boobs and the a job ;-)
Donna I'm so excited you are finally getting your final touches. Must feel good to finish this phase.
HOT FLASHES
I just found an old friend I grew up with (she lived down the street) on facebook last week. She cracked me up yesterday when I told her I just started to have these minor hot flashes in the morning. She replied back regarding her hot flashes for the past several years:"I think I might personally be responsible for global warming."
Just thought you all would get a kick out of that.

Iago -- Your experience is very encouraging to me! I just met yesterday with my oncologist, pretty standard chemo protocol 4 of A/C, 4 of Taxol, 16 weeks in total. Sounds do-able, at least being able to count the number of treatments on one hand. I am going to try to continue working during treatment, if the SEs become too much too handle I'll make an adjustment.
Elf -- I lived in Texas for a couple of years in the nineties. It is definitely different from the midwest, but I liked Dallas. I don't know how things might have changed... back in the nineties real estate dollars in Texas went really really far, especially compared to Naperville (I live in Downers Grove, right up the road from you!).

LisaMomOfFour I hope you feel like me.
tx #3 was Tuesday.
Wednesday spent 35 minutes on the elliptical & 35 minutes on the treadmill.
Thursday walked all around the city (loop & Mich. ave) with a friend
Yesterday had to take it easy. Did manage to clean house around 4pm
This morning I will be back in the gym for the 60-70 minute work out.Yes I too counted 3.5 months of chemo… that's not long. I can do that. Granted I still have a full year of Herceptin but I don't think I get SE from that. and of course hormone suppression therapy.

Jackie....any news?
Nancy.....hoping for B9!
Donna...glad your surgery went well and that you met up with Jan! And you named them????? You girl are a hoot!
Mandy....I will have to check out your blog. Next summer I will have to let you know when we decide to hop in the car and take a ride up to Lindy's. DH is off all summer so we go up during the week and its usually pretty empty.
Jan/BJ...I saw on FB about the peppermint tea. I found some Celestial Seasonings Candycane tea and it was pretty good...if TJ runs out. I found it at Supertarget....along with Peppermint Whip cream in a can! Peppermint! YUM !!!!!!!!!
Just watching the news.....a woman in Denver I think had to remove he bra and her fake boob for the TSA. So girls...if you are flying...beware I guess. I don't know how I feel about this whole thing but if faced with a choice, I will pick the body scan. How do you guys feel?
Marina/Irene....still have problems with your port scar? Gee...what a nice reminder. My scar is ok, still pulls tho and there is a stitch under the skin that pokes me. Surgeon offered to open it up and remove it but gee, let's see....more surgery, more hospital fees, more surgeon fees, more pain......yeah, NO. Poke away, stitch!
Well...the news continues.....watching the big winter storm in NY...looks pretty but please snow.....stay away! I think I will change the channel...no more news for me today!
All going thru tx....hope today is a good day for you. Everyone....get out and enjoy the day...do something fun, maybe something you haven't done for a long time. I am laughing as I am thinking a nap/reading my new S. King book sounds like a fun activity for me! Whatever you do....just enjoy, and smile, and laugh. Life is good!
And Rita......Happy #4 tomorrow!!!!!!! YAY !!!!!!!!!!

I had my 4th tx yesterday and if I keep to the Friday schedule instead of going back to Monday I will finish this year! Instead of on 1/03/11. For some strange reason this makes me very happy. (c:
Lisamom- I hope you still get to enjoy your visitors around Dr appointmets!

Donna -- Glad your procedure went well yesterday! I'm sure Jan took good care of you, she has been an angel for me. Thanks for offering to help! I am still a bit at the overwhelmed stage, hoping that getting back to routine, and work in a couple of weeks, even knowing that I am facing chemo, will help center me emotionally.
0 -
Adey -- I totally get that... won't it be nice to ring in the new year with that phase of the treatment behind you?

Laura - I lived in Charlotte, NC for 10 years - just a few miles away from the South Carolina border, Love the Carolinas - mountains and beaches so close and weather is wonderful. They do get ice storms every so often in winter - very scary - but everything else makes up for it.
