Morning all,,,,,it is 68 and clear on my deck....going up to a high of 75 and plenty of sun and gentle breezes.  Not.

Thanks for all the BD wishes....we were away for the weekend but came home at daybreak yesterday to avoid the weather.  Just stayed home and read and I actually took a nap, something I don't usually do but it certainly was a good day for it!  Yuck.

Carolyn.....I am so sorry to hear your news.  Actually...sorry doesn't begin to cover it.  But I am glad ur doc was at the conference...lots of news coming out, lots of new ideas and treatment.  Hang in there!  As we say around here....IL girls are tough!

Just having a cup of tea and am headed back to bed....looks like the cold/flu thingy that was passed around at a kid's bd party has landed in my house.....but with the weather....good day to just stay in bed.  FL family basked in 76 and sunshine yesterday.  It's cold at night but the days I guess have been wonderful.  I would REALLY like to spend my bd in shorts, at the beach!  Someday.....

12 Life Lessons I Learned From My Cat
    - Jonathan Lockwood Huie

    1. Pounce on opportunity. He who hesitates, misses catching the passing lizard.

    2. Patience. Infinite patience...

    3. Concentration. A cat studying an opportunity just beyond his grasp is the epitome of focused attention. He doesn't even blink as he tunes out all distractions. His body is completely still except for his wildly twitching tail releasing his nervous energy.

    4. Nothing is worth disturbing your beauty sleep.

    5. Catnap. Even a few moments of shut-eye is refreshing.

    6. If you're happy, purr. Show your appreciation by letting people know that you like what they do.

    7. Do cat stretches - and other yoga poses, and try Qigong. Especially as we age, gentle stretching is one of the best things we can do for our bodies.

    8. Wrestle with your best friend. She likes it when you're playful.

    9. Eat when you're hungry and not by the clock.

    10. Ask for what you want. If you are lovable and patient, you will probably get it.

    11. You can't have everything you want. If you put your claws where they don't belong, you're going to get spanked.

    12. Revel in life's simple pleasures. A ball of string is magic. Catnip is heavenly.

Oh Carolyn, I am so sorry to hear your news.  You hang in there.  Illinois gals are tough!  I wish I was closer so I could give you a big genuine hug.  Instead, you're going to have to settle for good vibes and hugs sent across the miles.... and I'm sending huge bundles of them.

I'm pretty well snowed in for the day.  Dave made it out with his truck this morning but I don't think my little car will make it down the lane until it's plowed.  That's O.K.  I have everything I need and a day at home is always good.  I have a good book I want to dig into this afternoon and now I have the perfect excuse.  I'm even getting domestic and fixing and roast with all the trimmings for dinner tonight.

For those of you who don't do Facebook, my tests came back good on Friday.  I have graduated to one year mammos now instead of every 6 months.  YEA!!!

Travel safely if you need to get out in this!

Carolyn - I'm sorry you have to deal with this. You "sound" good...hang in there! It's cold and snowy out...you're not missing much! Keep warm. Let us know how the MRI goes. HUGS TO YOU!

    Wendy - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Rita - Good news about your tests!

OMG, that was tooo funny. I can so relate as my dh DID give me a vacuum cleaner but for my birthday one year. Boy I never let him forget it either. It was either a sparkler or a vacation. Couldn't decide so I took both . lol lol !!!

Only 4 more days and counting...I am not too excited !! Then it's playtime for me.

Rita...congrats to moving to one year.

Carolyn...wishing you a speedy recovery out of there. hang in there.

Jackie...a  cute quote today. nippy lol

Onward...hope you too are feeling better.

Marina...good luck on your up coming trails. Keeping fingers and toes crossed for you.

Well I have to stop typing now as my arm is getting sore again. I think I pulled a chest muscle from all this coughing I have been doing  since last week from my major cold. At least I got my voice back and the kids at school love it.

Stay warm and have a great evening.

Hello Everyone.  I am home from Cancun.  And yes it was lovely.

It has taken me over an hour to catch up on this thread.  I wanted my trip to be a cancerfree vacation, so I did not go on line for the entire time I was away.

But I did have a television and a Newspaper.  And the news of Elizabeth Edwards losing her battle with Breast cancer was devastating to me. Many of the tragedies that she has endured in her life have also happened to me, in my life.  She was a true inspiration.  A real lady.  I hope she is at peace now that she is with her dear son, Wade.  And I pray for strength for her  3 children, for they will need to continue this life without her.  And as far as John is concerned, he will have to face God one day......

Carolyn, I am thinking of you!  Please try to update us when you can.  And let us know what we can do to help you.

I am going to bed early tonight.  Its darn cold out.  ICK.  I hate winter.

Carolyn, I'm am so sorry.  You are in my thoughts, and good luck with that PET scan.

Love that video.  I made sure to forward it to my DH. :)

Congrats on graduating to yearlys, Rita.

Navy, Welcome back from Cancun.  Bet you wish you'd stayed!

I am scheduled to see my surgeon this Wed. after work.  He's going to scan the lump and decide if it's something he can remove then and there.  If he feels it's too big or deep, I'll have to schedule it for day surgery.  WHEN I will do that is beyond me.  I'm working just about every day until Christmas since I'm covering for my partner.  Perhaps it would be better to wait until after the holidays anyway, but honestly, I'd rather just get it over with already and know one way or the other.

I'm keeping a lid on this to my family (except the DH).  There's no sense in worrying everyone unless there ends up being something to worry about.  My mom would flip out, and that's not good for any of us.

Is it springtime yet?  I think I'm DONE with this cold weather already.  I usually do a lot of my holiday shopping online, but this year with the weather and my time crunch, I've done about 95% of it online.  I don't miss all the running around at all.

    Stay warm, everyone.

Carolyn thanks for the update. Glad to hear your spirits are up. Thank goodness for the Atrium Au Bon Pain. Rush is such a great place… but they have the worst food! I found the salads to be the safest of the Rush choices.

Rene I too would like to be done with winter. Winter is a bit easier when there is no snow on the ground. I'm hoping for a warm up next week and major melting. Will help a little.

Morning all....well, got up and looked at the temp....-0.1.

Keurig just then clicked on so I got my milk out....temp was now -0.2.  Went to staircase and called upstairs to DH that it was really cold this am.  Went back to grab the coffee...was now -0.4.  I am too afraid to go look again....just no sundresses, Susan!

Carolyn....glad you are able to keep your spirits up and you sound so positive.  I so admire you and also am so happy for your great supportive family.  Let us know soonest what the next steps are for you, honey.  We are all pulling for you!  Hugs!

    Navymom......we need beach pictures!  NOW!!!!!!!

Rene....yeah, I would be getting it over....now ....I think!  It is what it is and if you wait you will just worry and assume the worst.  If you get it out now....you will know for sure.  It doesn't sound too bad tho....fingers crossed!

I am pretty tired of the weather.  Usually it doesn't bother me too much but I hate this cold.  It looks like it will warm up a bit Wed into Thurs but then back down.  When you get cold in this weather, seems like you just stay cold.  Thanks to down coats and down comforters tho I am pretty warm.  Stare at the snow-covered deck these mornings and so wish I could walk out there and sit down with my coffee and watch the sun come up.  Well....I could do that I suppose but I am afraid DH would find a Wendycicle!

Jackie....laughed over that video!  DH for our 1st anniversary gave me a vacuum AND a blender!  Wasn't I a lucky girl!  It was not a happy day.  Now...all he wants to give me is jewelry or a vacation....and I could really use a new vacuum!  Too funny what our priorities become as we get older.  BTW....he refuses to buy me a new vacuum.....said it is a trick that we wives pull and he's not falling for that!

Would someone please tell my husband that I really do want a vacuum????  REALLY???? LOL!

Have a great day all....and stay warm!  Going up to a balmy 18 today!  WooooHooooo.....

Carolyn - So happy to see that you are posting and keeping your spirits up.  It sounds like you have a wonderfully supportive family.  And as a cat owner myself, it is good to know that your kitty is not alone and will be with you when you are back at your sister's.  Stay warm and don't go walking outside - it is cold :-)

Oh my, it is so cold here as well --- in our neck of the woods from 1 to 8 degrees depending on exactly which little town around here.  We don't usually get the harsh cold before X-mas, and I think some freezing is expected ----  some moisture on Wed. which will start freezing at sun down....not sounding pleasant at all.

Carolyn......glad to hear your spirits are good.  You have some real spunk going.  Good for you.  Warm hugs to your family as well for their devotion.

Off to House of Hope to play and work for all of them today.

Wendy -- too funny that Dh thinks you may be trying to trick him.  Your right our priorities do change over time to something more practical.....Denny knows to consult me before buying anything......if I don't like it, I won't use it.  He found that out the hard way......and when we first bought our other house ( which my BIL bought from us )  out here.....he went and picked out all new appliances -- w/o asking me.  One by one --- they were all sold and replaced.  A big hassle to say the least but they were cheap ( men don't use them much ) and though I don't need or want the best I've learned the hard way......buying the cheapest model of some things.....well, you get what you pay for applies.

Hope you all have a fantastic day and can stay inside a lot.  We have sun here so that will help.  See you later.

    Hugs,Jackie

Almost forget.....I'm with you Rene'.  Hope you can get this done and get on with living well.

Carolyn, good to hear from you.  You have a great family.  So nice that your brother in law fetched the kitty for you.  I am sure it was on your mind even with all that you have going. Thinking about you all the time.

Hey, the same goes for you Rene.  Maybe work keeps your mind off of the surgery, but I know you want to get this over with.  You are strong to keep it from the family. Prayers are with you.

Jackie that video was hilarious.  I have a different DH story.  Just a few days ago Paul asked if I would like some Channel No. 5.  I hadn't heard about that in decades and I thought that would be charming.  I then saw the price and tracked him down by cell and told him NOT to get me that gift.  He is a conservative man, so he probably saw it in an ad and thought it would be charming as well.  That stuff is like $100 for just a few ounces and what with all "the hungry people in the world...." it wold not feel good for me to sprinkle it about.  I too would much prefer a vacuum cleaner.  Unfortunately in my case, my DH thinks he can FIX everything, so I won't even bother asking for a vacuum cleaner.

I get together with the retired teachers (a batch retired my same year) for lunch and a cookie exchange. I am becoming a sugar  cookie!

Its been a very long day! Got to Seattle at 3 am and got a few hours of sleep. Got a ton of blood drawn and got my first vaccine. Getting released in 10 min and will see if we can go standby on an earlier flight or else we get home at 1 am! Sounds like its all worth it. The first trial they did 13 years ago before herceptin 1/3 of the women are still alive! I'm willing to get stuck with a few needles for that chance! Carolyn.. Waiting for some good scan results!

Back from the big wedding weekend.  Missed a couple flights, but I was not in any hurry to get back to this deep freeze.  My DH walked to the end of the driveway to pick up the morning paper and comes back saying, "gee, it is so nice outside."  He was serioius too.  He loves winter.

Carolyn... so sorry to see what you are going through.  Please keep us updated and let us know wif there is anything we can do for you.  So glad that you have your sister's family supporting you so well.  Rene... let us know how things go for you also.

I am waiting for my doctor to call me back today concerning my bone density and Vitamin D tests results.  My ONC's office just switched over to electronic medical records last week and things seem a little chaotic.  Not enjoying my new friend, Femara.  As the day goes on, my body just gets more achy and stiff.  Some ladies have said that it takes a few months for your body to adjust to it.  Not fun.... I feel like a really old lady by the end of the day so just figure I better keep moving, moving, moving.

Hi Everyone!  I'll join the chorus and say how much I'm hating this weather.  Burr..............

Carolyn- thanks for the update. Healing thoughts being sent your way. Do you mean that they made a mask for you for radiation?  I saw those kind of head masks in the room when I was going to rads.

Marina- glad to know that your trial has started.  And for those kind of results with your diagnosis, I would fly twice as far!  Keeping all fingers and toes crossed for you.

Laughing at that commercial as well, but because I would probably be the kind of woman who loved getting an appliance.  I don't want or need any kind of jewelry- I don't really wear it.   I can remember being excited getting a dumbbell rack one year!

And Susan- my husband is the kind of person who CAN fix almost anything.  So he fixes and fixes things over and over, until I kind of whine, "but I really, really, want a new one..."  I had to build an addition to my house and put a new kitchen in before he stopped fixing the 25 year old refrigerator and dishwasher.

I'm Bah-Humbug as far as Christmas is concerned.  I've sent gifts to my son in San Diego, bought a couple for my other son, and that's about it.  Told my husband no gifts for him or me- our gift is our house in North Carolina.  Nothing being sent to any of our brothers and sister-in-laws, nothing being sent to nieces (they are all grown) .  Coffee going to my 86 year old father.  Only a few gifts for friends and that's all I'm doing.  No decorations and simple dinners planned.  I did bake some goods for the local hospice and donated some new gear to a local animal shelter.  Think I need to donate more- have to think where..

Good luck Renee- hope you get good news, and healing vibes to all those in treatment.  The best to all my BC sisters!

Good afternoon everyone!  I am done with the shopping......completely.  Somebody needs to knock me up along side the head if I pick up anything else for anybody!  I have a few last minute things to wrap tomorrow and then I'm completely ready.  I had a hard time trying to find things for my dad who is mainly home-bound, needs no clothes, has no real hobbies, and lives alone.  I finally came up with a few things and added a nice box of candy to the pile today.  I think I'll also pick him up a roll of stamps.  Humm......did I say I was done???  LOL

Marina, so glad that your trial is startted. I think the former results are very impressive and well worth the journey out west.  My prayers will be with you as you continue on with it.

Carolyn, I'm so glad that you'll have kitty with you.  My older cat was such a comfort to me when I was going through the treatments.  I have hopes that the shelter kitty we adopted will grow to be a lap cat, too.  She has never had much attention and she lets us hold her for just a bit before sprinting off to discover something else.  There's still quite a bit of kitten in her yet so maybe she will cuddle more as time progresses.

And yes, Jan Clare......I hate winter, too.  If all goes well, we're heading for FL for 3 weeks in February again this year and it can't come too soon for me.  I did splurge and buy myself a really warm winter coat this year and retired my leather ones for short trips and a bit warmer temps.

Well, I'm going back into town in a bit for yoga so I need to find me a snack before I go and get my cats fed.  Yoga and dinner time coincide at our house.  That's the only bad thing about it as it does relax me and make me feel good!

    Stay warm everyone!

    Rita
