Marina, I feel sooooooooooo optimistic! You are so proactive and smart about how you execute this plan to snuff cancer out of your life. You make me proud to know you.
Joan, that electronic medical communication is fantastic once they get the bugs out of it. I get all my test results online so I can print them out and refer to them if I need them. I get reminders for mri, mammograms and can get refills on prescriptions using this system. I love it. If I have a sill question, I can email it to the doctor or nurse and get an answer. All very good....so be patient.
Stay warm!

Hi fellow Illinois ladies. You sound like a great group! I'm pretty new here, having just been diagnosed a month ago. I went to the Cancer Wellness Center in Northbrook today. It seems like a nice place. I met with a counselor who I swear was 17 years old, but she turned out to be very knowledgeable. I'm going to start attending some of the yoga and exercise classes there. Do any of you who live in the Northern suburbs ever go there? It's really nice that it is free.

Ohhhhhh, jumping back in with Webu's post. Webu, I live in Northbrook and have attended a number of classes/activities provided by the cancer wellness center and most all have been positive. I took a meditation class at the Botanic Gardens when it was nice and warm and the facilitator was so good. I work parttime and so it is hard for me to make a commitment, yet I do notice that Wellness Center doesn't care if you drop in last minute. Our diagnosis is very much the same. It has been four yeasr fro me and I am doing just fine. The cool think about the Wellness Center is that they don't care how long you are free of cancer....one is always welcome. Glad you came here.

Carolyn -- so glad you are back at home with your family! Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you....
Marina -- you must be back at home now. Great news on the trial.
Back to work today after taking yesterday off unexpectedly... had so much pain from the TE fill, that I had to take Norco (no Advil since I'm having my port inserted on Friday).
Adey and Caryn -- I really do want to get together for lunch.... seems like even now that I'm back at work, I still seem to have a dr appt every day......

Silence is the great teacher, and to learn its lessons you must pay attention to it. There is no substitute for the creative inspiration, knowledge, and stability that come from knowing how to contact your core of inner silence. The great Sufi poet Rumi wrote, ''Only let the moving waters calm down, and the sun and moon will be reflected on the surface of your being.

Hi gals............
Loved your short, "to the point" post this morning, Wendy. I share your sentiments! Brrrr.........
Carolyn, so glad that you are home. Snuggle in with that kitty!
Webu....welcome to the Illinois thread! You've found a wonderful group of knowledgeable and caring women who will do anything that they can to help you. Come back often and post. Also, tell us a little about yourself when you get a chance.
I hope the freezing rain misses us this evening. I'm already sick of winter.
Catch you all later.

((( waves at webu ))) … We already met on another thread :-)
Hope everyone keeps warm and healthy.
Yesterday I dropped off my oatmeal, peanut butter, banana, chocolate chip cookies (all in one cookie) for the chemo nurses at Rush. The seemed really busy when I stopped by. I'm sure they had a nice needed sugar rush when the eat one of those.
I also had an appointment with a podiatrist… we had a blast!. She grew up in one of the towns next to mine. We talked Boston the entire time. Granted she was a pretty cool lady. I would have liked her even if she wasn't my homie.
My husband did get 2 job offers last week. He had finally made a decision and will be excepting one today. Nice to have 2 very good offers. It was really tough for him to decide. I'm glad we don't have to worry about Cobra running out this spring!
BTW is there anything I can do to make my nails stop hurting. I never thought opening/closing a zip lock bag would be challenging ;-) I've cut my nails really short to help prevent injury.

Adey....glad you liked the quote. I love the answers that come in the quiet times....especially when going to sleep, or upon first coming awake when mind, body and spirit are in tune.
Oh my, oh my. I think we are in for some rough stuff this evening. Weather-man says enough of a gentle thaw - then quick re-freezing which will put a layer of glaze out there. Does not sound fun at all......and I'm praying they are wrong. I hope no one gets it.....anywhere.
Well, need to get going on this lovely day. I'm getting somewhat used to the cold......but I'm not liking it in the least. Someone said we were going to have an easy winter....that is not working out as yet.
See you all later.
Hugs, Jackie

If there is snow on the ground then winter has started in my book.

Lago - So happy to hear about your husband's job offering - yes, very nice to have two nice options to pick from. Regarding nails - a friend of mine would put black nail polish on hers during chemo and claims that it saved her nails. I kept mine very short and they did OK until the very end when they turned a tobacco yellow and developed very deep ridges - but never hurt. Were back to normal within six weeks after the last chemo.
It is sooo cold, I can't stand it. Want to be back in North Carolina! I am flying to Delaware this afternoon - so hopefully the weather hold up until I leave and is good when I am scheduled to come back this Friday.
Please stay warm everyone.

Carolyn--
So glad to hear you are home. I'm in Palatine and close-- don't hesitate to send me a note if you need anything.
Really not liking this weather either. bleah.
Not too many amusing kid stories right now--- except that Beth has taken to screaming "NAUGHTY LIST!!" everytime her brother starts to tease..... It's surprisingly effective. Wish I could do that at work.

I'm home.. sleepy.. cold but home!! Booked my next trip.. waiting for a call back to book next two after that.. Figure IF I'm optimistic, I will be able to stay on the whole trial..
one night trips are super expensive if I can't use miles..Carolyn, glad you are home!! let me know if there is any information I can help you with!!
Lago - great news about your husband's job! I'm sure worrying about insurance is NOT fun!!
Hope everyone is staying warm today!!

lago - Congrats to your dh!
mak - Glad to know you're back home safely. Your optimism will get you through this. Are there any known s/e's?

Wow, Lago, I had no idea you even had the Cobra worries. You must feel like a ton of bricks have been lifted. I would have been a wreck worrying about that. Anyway, so happy DH had a job offer...well two...! Congrats! Life is good in the Lago family!
Stay warm to everyone else. Wendy, I am not wearing sundresses. I am wearing turtle necks, scarves, tights, boots and jackets.

Brrrr! I just came back from walking the dog and I can attest that it is cold out there! I wish there was an indoor dog-walking facility. There are certainly enough empty stores and factories around here. I would pay money to avoid the cold and the ice,
A little information about me: I had a lumpectomy last Monday. The margins were clean and I am node-negative I saw my onc today and he is recommending Taxene + Herceptin, which is what I was expecting. I think I am still going to get a second opinion, probably from one of the big cancer centers in Chicago. I don't think I want to have to drive into the city on a regular basis (I'm a coward behind the wheel ), but it would be good to have another opinion.
0 -
webu...Second opinions are good. If nothing else, they provide us with more information and help us make better choices. Then too, if the two opinions are similar, it gives us a sense of security that we're doing the right things. I think that the decision making part of the journey is one of the hardest parts. Once I had my decisions made, I felt more emotionally ready to move onward.
Lago, congrats to hubby on his job offers! YEA!
Hey Marina.....you just stay optimistic! We'll all cheer you on!
Well, I need to find my recliner!
Stay warm and travel safely in this weather. We're on the borderline for an icy mix. Hopefully it will move to the south and we'll escape it, but not far enough south to find Jackie!

MakMk: So glad you are not having s/e and that its going well.
Zap: thanks for your offer, I ended up going to michigan early saturday am slept all day, went out to dinner, the casino and got home in time to realize OMG got to leave early or we will get snowed in. Was home by 10 am in time to watch them close all the roads we were just on. End result: Hubby got his baseball, made some money and New Buffalo ended up with 18.5 inches of snow. Yikes. Thank you God that we didnt get stranded.
