Laura, The trip sounds awful last night. Very slow and very steady wins the driving on iced streets with no visibility race! I am glad you are safe.  Then to read the news about Carolyn. If not wine and chocolate, how about a cross country ski workout in your woods to relaz?

Wendy, that room is what I envision when I have trouble sleeping.  I "imagine" my whole family is there with me all cozy and safe.  Thanks for providing that image....I know you do every year.

Rene, I am sure that you are going through anxiety whenever the phone rings.  We are all here!

Blackjack, are you in Wisconsin?  It must look heavenly if you are.  I am working 8 weeks for a woman on maternity from the first of February and on.  I have a Spring break in there.

Lago, you refer to your Jewish heritage and I would like to share my experience with my wonderful Jewish friends.   I am in a short story bookclub composed of all older Jewish people. How it turned out that way, I have no idea.  I just love them and they are so welcoming  of me.  They mix what they say with Yiddish words  and I can now get what they are saying  as Yiddish just says it all so well.  Some are in their early seventies, but many are older than that and there are men and women.  I am 62 and  I love it because they treat me like I am a kid and provide the best noshes! We meet monthly in a little room in our  local library. They are not suppose to get off-task in the discussion  (we have a strict facilitator who keeps us on task) but they often wander into the days when they were younger and their stories are often quite bittersweet to hear. Some were children  in Europe during the war.

I am finished with Christmas shopping.  Now I wish to enjoy the holiday!  I hope the same is true for you all.

    Susan

If any of you are interested in purchasing an infrared sauna - LET ME KNOW - my friend sells them.

The rule for LE patients - If you have LE you shouldn't be exposed to any temperature above 100 degrees. When I had LE - I took showers in our steam room - but I set the temp at 100 degrees and it was fine.

It's so good to have news of Carolyn and an address.  She has been on my mind alot lately and I'm going to get a card in tomorrow's mail.

Laura, I'm glad you made it home safely.  Those white-out conditions are so scary!

I'm finished with my shopping and wrapping also.  We had our bowling party today, filled with cute gifts and wonderful food.  It was lots of fun.

Tomorrow night our golf group is going to a holiday dinner theatre.  It's a nice way to finish up the pre-holidays before the big day arrives.  I'll be able to enjoy it because all the holiday prep is finished!

Blackjack, when I was teaching, I sometimes looked forward to the vacation time more than the holiday!  Then I'd get rejuvenated and was ready to go back at it for the rest of the year.  Enjoy your time off and your holiday season.  You deserve it!

Wendy, I use 10 beauty products regularly.  That's not quite the average but it's amazing when you think about it.  I didn't realize that I even used that many.

Well, I'm off to write out some checks and pay some bills and then off to finish up some more laundry.  It's yoga tonight and I need it to release all this holiday stress and get me ready!

    Hugs to all of you,

    Rita

I'm a newbie in Illinois that just wanted to introduce myself to you. ( I've been lurking in the shadows of the message boards, until today).  I had a lumpectomy last August, BC was barely a stage II at that point, according to my surgeon.  Had mammosite radiation and I decided against having chemo at that time.  Well 7 months later, the BC had mets to spine and hip.  Had a wonderful summer of chemo and I'm now on monthly faslodex and zometa.  Will have a pet scan done January 4 and see where we go from here.  I've had a ball reading about you Illinois gals and decided it was time to join in.

scrap2book - Welcome to our group - we are a bunch of fun women.

Laura - Thank you for Carolyn's info.  Will write her a note for sure.  Your drive home last night sounds so scary.  Happy that you made it home safely and DH was there to comfort you.

I didn't look at the video... is it "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!"?

    Classic.

    "Oh, my nose!"

Can't tell you how many times I've had Rocky impersonators yelling my name at me, I don't mind!

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome.  Lago - you were very quick on that YouTube clip.  I've never heard that before (yeah, right!!!). Actually, one day in the oncologist office, I was still next to another woman that I had met during radation. They were running really late that day and we had been sitting there chatting up a storm and the girl came and called for Marcia and we both stood up and only then did we find out that we were both Marcia. (Spelled the same too ! )  I'll check in with you gals tomorrow, I'm at work and I think I'll head for home now!!

Ok I have to tell you I did make a snow angel in by back yard today in honor of all of us!! It was me and my lab playing outside and I fell running after him and low and behold an angel was made in the snow. Oh what fun it is to be a kid again. I really am to old for this stuff lol

Need my hot chocolate to get warm....throw in some cookies and I am a happy camper. Yum

    Enjoy the day.

It was sooo nice to get an update about Carolyn. I've been so worried...

I got my blood work back from Seattle.. and ALL normal.. including that one pesky number that kept creeping up.. it's down 30 points to the normal range again... I kind of knew it was a few of my supplements so decided to experiment and didn't take them before Seattle.. YEP it's them.. but to me the benefits are too big.. especially if I KNOW that's what is doing it..

Really bad headache today.. had to drive home from Deere Park mall and was freaking out.. yes, I do have the lovely 30-40% of brain mets that's always lurking in the back of my mind.. though I try hard to not think about it..

OK.. Wendy, I wish you didn't ask the makeup question.. I will win hands down.. but I don't want to count as I keep telling my DH I'm low maintenance.. (well until this disease that is!!)

Welcome Marcia!!  This is definitely the best thread on this site!!

marina....YOWWEEEEEEEEE! Happy aboutthe blood results.  Headache is due to all the crap. I am so rarely vulgar that I am okay with me saying crap. By "crap" I mean driving, snow, holidays, worry, you name it.  I am being conservative, I could say "_-_-"

Welcome ScrapBook.  Where is Newark, Illinois?

Sad news.  My SIL was just diagnosed with breast cancer but it is Stage 1, Grade 1 and no nodes, so I think that she will be okay.  Oh, so sick of hearing about this.

BJ, I want to see the snow angel.  Oh, so much fun!

Adey, my wig was kinda like the white one.  I am more silver than gray.  I am think I am the richest one here if we are talking abut silver! One of my students told his mother I could glow in the dark and another once said (long ago when kids knew who Marilyn Monroe was) I was like an old Marilyn Monro (I took it as a compliment and focused on the Monroe and not the old.)

    Stay warm!

Gosh, I had no idea my heroin addiction would prevent me from enjoying a sauna. lol.

Scrap2book, welcome. why did you wait so long to join us????

Zap, so sorry about your SIL.

Ade: I am having tar like stools, my nose is bleeding and my cholesterol is 394. Had to go in today for another coumadid check and asked the onc that was available about the high number. My onc is out of town. She put her hand on her hip and said, Honey, you have cancer, dont worry about the cholesterol. (this is exactly what ade told me)You arre soooo wise.

I got the same email about Carolyn and will be sending flowers as soon as lago gives me a florist. I am also sending her sister an email and letting her know we appreciate being kept updated.

    Marina great news.

MakMak, so sorry about the headache.

Sigh, I was just at RUSH today and had no idea Carolyn was back in, as I could of visited with her.  I missed all this as I left early this morning by train and cab.

lago...maybe after the holidays I could come back down and we could meet at Rush for this viist or just meet in the loop! So sorry I missed your message!

Have decided and urged by Rush Dr's to have my ovaries and tubes out. as I have the BRCA gene 1 as a most defitinte considered mutation. I quess since i am post menopausal, what can be a side affect? Cannot sleep as it is and all is as it is!

Thanks kater, GREAT info!! Wish I could get to a infra-red sauna, this sounds awesome.

The letter from dy is very moving and need to get her exact address (carolyn's). Anyone can you  PM it to me please. God is the one with all the power here and that is good.

Wendy...your pic of the fireplace scene is so wonderful to look at!!!

Tired and feel mixed in emotions this time of year as some of us have challenges and we are still fighting in spite of it all. Have a wonderful night and sweet dreams.

    Hugs,

    Donna

Susan, so sorry to hear about your SIL.  You will be a great help to her.  It sounds like it was caught early and that is so important.

Marina....great results on the bloodwork.  As for the headaches, I agree with Susan.  It's probably all the extra stress and tension that accompanies this time of year, not to mention all the stress of waiting for test results and flying across country for a new treatment plan.   Hugs!

Hey blackjack, if I tried making snow angels somebody would probably have to help me up!  :-)

Matrcia, welcome to our thread.  Come often and tell us some more about yourself!

I am so relaxed tonight.  I went to yoga and it certainly does help me.  I really wish it was more than once a week.  I still haven't gotten back into my walking routine and it looks like it's on hold now until after the holidays.

Well I'm off to find my recliner!  I hope everyone had a good day!

Gee everyone is so chatty tonight

Happy dance time for Marina. We ♥ normal counts!

Zap, sorry about your SIL. Thank goodness they caught it early.

BJ I too want to see the snow angel ;-)

     onward, you got PM

Donna we will do lunch one of these days. If it's during the next 6 weeks we will have to coordinate with my taste buds though ;-)

    -------------------------------
Nothing new with me. Just bloating up as usually and my nails still kill (and turning black). Just 6 more weeks of this and I will be moving away from these SE rather than adding to them. I can't wait.

Thanks for the encouragement about my sil. She is stage one and her prognosis is good, but of course cancer is cancer and cancer is scary.

I told her about BC.org and she wisely said she wanted to see how the cards play out so she can then decide what she needs. She lives in Iowa and her dh is my husband's brother.  Sadly, Paul's mom died of BC way before I met her and so news that wives have breast cancer is hard.  Paul's darling mom died without the support I have and so I am glad to reach out to Martha (SIl) as I know her husband is upset.  They have a mentally challenge son who is now an adult so they need lots of support.  She needs to be around to care for him.

infrared, could one sit under the infrared light bulbs i used to have in my kitten playhouse in the winter? or some people have them in their bathrooms, remember the old hotel rooms had those lights in the ceiling?

donna dio..........i had ovaries out.....dec 2007......i haven't dated since that year...if that means anything, no urge !! otherwise all is well (my Mom had ovarian cancer and was brca negative....but they let me get them out for ease of mind and because i was estrogen positive with bc stuff).i was told replens would help if you keep taking it...if necessary.

Laura, thank you for the update from Carolyn's sister. As tough as her situation is, it sounds like she has some loving support. I'll be sure to send a card to try and cheer her up.

Marcia - Welcome to the group.

BJ - I agree with Lago, we need a picture of your snow angel! What a great icon that would make for you.

Susan - Sorry to hear about your sis-in-law. I agree that she's lucky to have a SIL like you who's been there and can hopefully ease her journey.

As for me... I did get the GOOD news today while I was at work that my biopsy was BENIGN. Yep, B9, my favorite Bingo number. :) Thank you to all of you for the sincere support. It helps so much to have people to share all this crazy, crappy stuff with.

The DD is home now so I think I'll light a fire and talk everyone into watching a Christmas movie. Trying to agree on one will be the hard part!

Rene....B9 Bingo...benign what a great Xmas present!! Hope you enjoy the movie A White Christmas and make some popcorn. yummy.

Susan...I am soo sorry to hear about your sil.  I will add her to my prayer list. I know you will be a great support person for her. She is welcome to join our chatty group. Hugs

Ok I tried to take a picture of my snow angle but my dog decided it was better to run threw it.

So now she is mushy and semi- melted. But it was fun while it lasted. Now you all have to try making one outside. Rita don't worry I will help you get up. he he

Oh oven timer is dinging...my banana bread is done and smells yummy. gotta run.

Have a warm evening and sweet dreams all you snow angles out there.

Just home from my second to last shopping trip for christmas.   Guess having three surgeries, going back to work full time AND taking care of my four kids, while my husband has been battling the flu, didn't really leave me all that prepared and organized, so I'm still shopping!  Should be done tomorrow night, I hope.

Rene and Marina -- excellent news!
