I got a snow day, I got a snow day...no school for me tomorrow !!! Well I have to say the roads are very icy slick and white out from blowing snow. I had a md appt today and they called to reschedule for Thurs as they were closing the office early today due to the weather and will be closed tomorrow. So there are lots of places closed today and tomorrow. I remember that Woodfield closed early one time at 6pm due to blowing snow/ freezing weather.

So girls please be careful if you have to go out for anything, roads are bad. It is nice to be at home now and inside being toasty. Fireplace roaring, tea boiling, sweats/ fuzzy socks on I am ready to veg.

Rita / Joan / Naveymom ..hope you girls are enjoying your nice sunny weather. I am sooo jealous as I have lots of snow here. Do you want me to send you some.lol

Wendy...did you put the snow be gone fairies away.

Carolyn...thinking of you and hope you are resting well.Looking forward to seeing you soon. Hugs to you.

Laura... ok I guess you must be skiing in the forest now!! hope you enjoy your work out in the snow.

Jackie...glad you are home safe and sound. Looks like you have more ice by you which makes driving slick. be warm..

Well I am off to shovel a bit for my dog to get outside. Stay warm everyone. It is howling out there now. Ohhh I need my beach chair and ocean about now.

    Take care,

    BJ

I just saw one of the screens from my building fly by my window. Very Wizard of Oz tornado like. Remember I'm on the 17th floor. I don't usually see things flying by my window that size.

My husband came home about an hour ago. So glad he left early. He works near the OHare. He went side streets and said the communte wasn't too bad.

Oh No how scary is that. My dd is going to be living on the 30th floor. Should I be nervous about it with bad weather???

Blackjack typically you are safe in tall buildings because the buildings are designed to sway so the wind doesn't break them. Yes I can see my hanging lights and mini blinds sway from side to side when it's really windy.

Now if you live in a building like mine that's all floor to ceiling windows there can be an issue if there are tornado like winds. The windows can blow out. That tornado like storm we had a few years ago had everyone rushing to the basement or stairwell.

Our building lost a lot of shades this fall. If your remember we had an unusually windy day. I lost a lot of hair that day since it was 15 days after my 2nd chemo. In the following weeks I found 2 of the shades in the park.

    Hi all,

I have made a reservation for Sunday, February 13, at Papa Passeros, 6326 S. Cass Avenue, Westmont, Illinois 60559.  www.papapasseros.com.  We have a private room from 1 to 4.  The room holds about 20.  I am still waiting to hear from Carolyn's sister if this date is OK.

It is wicked out there.  We did get out early.  Not sure if we are off tomorrow yet.  We actually had an attorney who was furious that they sent an e-mail to check the web site to see if we are closed tomorrow.  I saw the zoo is closed for only the 2nd time in its history.

I am sooo envious of you ladies in warm climates right now.  One of my best friends is in Hawaii now, and of course had to email me today to rub it in.

Bravo, Lisa...good for you.  I am unable to attend but will get a little something off. I turn the big 63 that weekend. Yikes, how did that happen?

Lago, stop scaring BJ :)!  Actually my "low-rise" house could be hit by a  frozen dead apple tree in my backyard.  I begged DH to get it cut down last summer.  He kept insisting it was still alive.  NOT! I am off tomorrow too BJ!  Shall we bake, read, or watch an old movie on TV?

Jackie, keep us posted!  Are you and Denny all cozied up there?

Susan I don't make this stuff up. Tongue out

4:30 p.m. Window tears loose in the Loop

Chicago police suspect whipping winds may be responsible for a pane of glass tearing free from its rubber seal at a high-rise at 230 W. Monroe St.around 2:30 p.m.

The glass did not crash to the ground but was dangling from the Loop building, police said.

A police spokesman couldn't say whether any streets were closed.

But if you notice it seems to happen in the loop.

I actually walked passed that building on the way home and had to cross and walk on the other side of the street because of the dangling glass.  That is second time within the past year from that same building.  Last time was early in the morning, and the weather was perfectly fine.

Ok girls thank for letting me know about window. She does have floor to ceiling front bay windows. They do have a bar across them from the inside. How do they alert you if their is high winds and how do you protect yourself. I don't see her running down 30 flights of stairs in an emergency or maybe she can. lol  She is on West Chestnut...have they had any issues with buildings?

This storm is really bad here. My dh had to leave the house now to go pick up my mil who has no power at her house. Not what a really needed now as my entire house is torn apart by the painters. Huge scuffle in my foyer, drop cloths every where plus all the unseen dust from sanding. So were is she going to stay? I guess I will have to put her to work cleaning and cooking. lol

Stay warm and cozy. Off to finish my tea.

Gosh gals!  I feel so guilty about basking in the sun while you gals are getting hammered with such terrible weather, but I'm not guilty enough to rush right back up there and join you!  :-)

Stay in and be safe.  The central Illinois area is getting it, too.  When I called home tonight, Dave couldn't even see our Dish satellite in front of the house because the snow was blowing so hard!

I remember how nice it was to have an occasional snow day so those of you who are off tomorrow.............enjoy your day!   If I were you, Susan, I'd probably curl up in a comfy chair with my book and my cat!

    Hugs to all of you.

Zap I think we should do all three, bake a yummy  chocolate cake, read a trashy novel for fun and watch a great old classic movie.  I will bring my white /dk chocolate popcorn I got from Costco. It is to die for soooo yummy. What time do we start the fun stuff?

blackjack it is highly unlikely this will happen. The winds are gusty but not as bad as that time with the tornado. Yes we heard sirens outside.

My hanging light is really swinging tonight. Also just saw some lightening. I've only seen lightening blizzards in New England. Wow weather patterns are changing.

Lisa thanks for setting this all up for the Carolyn get together. Let me know if I can do something.

Good Morning my little snow bunnies.....ahhhh isn't this sooo beautiful looking out your window at the falling snow. Lago your video was amazing to watch. Thank you for sharing. But I still don't like high rises. It looks like I will be indoors for a few days with all this snow. My poor dog had to try to jump over the huge drifts in my back yard just to go out. Poor baby.

As Zap said it will be a fun day inside, baking, reading and watching old movies.

As JulieB says all I need is my wine and chocolate and I am a happy camper.

I do wish I had my snowmobiles here then I could really have some fun in all this snow.

Lisa thanks for planing Carolyn's get- together. I got a pray blanket for her from Jan and we will put everyone's name on it. It will be from the Illinois Ladies to wrap her in hugs when she needs it.

Rita I hope you are really enjoying the sunshine and beach. I miss my beach chair, sniff sniff.

Wendy...what does your weather report say...Hot and sunny. lol

Laura...happy skiing today in the forest.

Jackie...stay safe out there. I bet the roads are bad for you.

Well off to make breakfast for my mil who is here for a few days.

Have a great day everyone. Snow angles anyone!!

Good Morning gals.  I got home on Monday night.  Just in time for this weather.  Just confirms how much I hate winter.  I was busy yesterday getting to the grocery store like everyone else.  Still snowing here in Will County.  Already made a big breakfast and hoping to get motivated to do some scrapbooking that I am so far behind I can't see daylight!

Have a safe day everyone.  Hugs to everyone in treatment and thinking of you too Carolyn!!

Sometimes the truth is so simple, so very un-complicated.  Hope I remember that.  Laura may be able to relate to this.  Wild night in the woods.  There will be much clean-up around our usually little two acres that now looms much larger.  We await the city to come get rid of the tree that needs only one good gust of wind to bring it the rest of the way down.  Both of our cars have been moved beyond it though it is a bit of an icy trek to reach them.

We have never seen the woods quite like this before.  With the pretty cold temps the ice will remain on all the trees, power lines and fences.  I have hope not too much more will come down, but just don't know.

We really didn't get much for snow.....a white covering to everything but nothing else.  I feel for all of you in the Chicago area.  I think it is much worse there and will stay so for longer than it will here.  I am hoping all stay safe and sound and glad many do not have to go to work or brave the elements....at least too much if you don't wish too.  I am thinking about all of you.  Rita, do you feel like everyone is thinking about you cause I think they are.  I sure am.

Be safe.  I will be checking in later.  Will be going out today at some point to feed feral cats and check on Maggie.  I don't think we ever lost power last night so I am so thankful about that. See you all later.

    Hugs, Jackie

Holy Snow !!!!! Even I am home today :)

Even though I havent been able to post my heart and my hands have been with all of you in the circle of love and prayer that circles around Carolyn . I have been in touch with her sister , some of you may know, I live only a few minutes away from them and am here to help them with whatever they may need.

As BJ said, I went to the Prayer Blanket group at church Monday night and tied a few knots for us and got a beautiful prayer blanket for Carolyn its multi shades of purples and blues and is so very cuddly. I had one given to me during my treatment and love to snuggle with it still, each knot is tied with a prayer specifically for the recipient. It comes with several beautiful writings about love and support , its my plan to sign each and every name on the Illinois list of women to those writings if that is ok with everyone. I am not available on the 13th but I hope to get the blanket over to the house as soon as BJ and I can find a way to get BJ to my house, I guess that will be post snow :)

When I had my breast surgery, I had it at the place where I work, and my husband remembers my surgeon saying when she went to Recovery Room to talk to me after surgery she felt like she was intruding because all of my co workers were in a circle of love surrounding me waking up I feel like this wonderful group has created the same circle of love for Carolyn. How incredibly proud and full of joy I am to know all of you .

If anyone has anything to tell me about the prayer blanket please do otherwise I will be working on the sheets of writing today cause there wont be much else to do :) Tomorrow it will be business as usual at 5am

    Love to all

Lago, I think you may have found a new career.  Keep that camera by your side.

DH and i are holed up and yes, it is cozy.

Thanks to all planning and going to Carolyn's get-together.  I feel sad I am not going.

Makmak is in Seattle, I think.  I hope she gets in okay.  Pictures of the airport are surreal....nothing going on.

Jackie, glad you are safe.  Shocking that you had light snow.

Well, I know this is positively odd, but DH and I are thinking of taking a walk to see the sights!

    Stay safe!

The DH and DS finally got our driveway shoveled, but it was a BIG job.  It actually looks pretty out there right now with all the sunshine.  I'm not looking forward to the freezing temps that are on the way.

We're going to cook a nice dinner and watch some DVD's to enjoy our Snow Day.  Stay warm everyone.

Hi, everyone, I live in NW IN, just 30 miles southeast of Chicago. We are still getting alot of lake effect blowing and drifting, but thank goodness the schools are closed again tomorrow. Yes, I hope everyone stays safe and warm. God bless you all, Kathy
