WendyTY - What a great story.  Inspiration right there when you need it most.  Love it.  Good to hear from you.

Joan - I would love the cranberry scones recipe.  I used to get the ones from Caribou Coffee on my way to work, until they closed the one by me.

Laura - Thomas Tryon's, Lady was one of my favorite books way back when!  We are clearly the same age range because I read the other two you listed as well.  Tom Tryon actually was an actor, and he had a few other good books as well, but they were more of the Horror-light genre.

Susan - I did see the Water for Elephants trailer and I was pretty pleased with the casting.  Looking forward to the movie.  How funny that you mention, "Samarai's Garden."  Gail Tsukiyama, the author, is one of my absolute favorite authors.  I've read all her books and honestly would have a hard time picking a favorite.  Her first two, "Women of the Silk" and it's sequel, "Language of the Threads," are incredible.  I highly recommend them.  I keep waiting for her to come out with something new, but it's been a while.

Adey - Congrats on the Rads!  One zap at a time and you'll be done before you know it.  :)

Okay.. running late to work!  (typical!).  Have a great day everyone!

Hi everyone!   Just stopping by to wish everyone a good day!  I got my haircut this weekend and it's much better now!  No flipping up in the back and got the curls cut off.  It's still short, of course, but much better (more of a style anyway). It's amazing that a little thing like that could make me so happy!  Once the hair finally started growing, I swear I needed to shave the hair on my legs everyday,,,now it's gotten to the point that I don't think I've shaved for at least a month and there is no stubble at all.(Not that I'm complaining!) Has this happened to anyone else?  I really should get on the phone and make an eye appointment now.  Eyesight has really gotten worse since chemo. I've been trying to do some reading at night, instead of mindless TV and I keep turning up the lamp and it doesn't seem to help (Having a 20 lb cat on my lap (between me and the book hasn't helped alot either - I have to hold up the book up in the air to see over him!)    Hope everyone has a safe day!

Scrpbook....interesting.  I still get the leg hair though it was gone for awhile.  My underarm hair is till missing and the chemo was 2008 ---- hmm, maybe some of the radiation zapped it, I don't know.  I have a scar in one armpit so glad I don't have to removr  hair there anymore......but the arms are a pretty small area.  Maybe legs not needing care would be better.

    Hugs, Jackie

Hi Jackie..Forgot to mention that my underarm hair is missing also (same time as leg hair). Hey it does save time in the tub and shower anyway! I just thought it was strange that it started then stopped.  Maybe the Faslodex or Zometa could have anything to do with it (finding out that anything's possible).  DH would say "ask your doctor" and I say "what for, he didn't tell me half of the things that I've learned here!."  Thanks for your response!

menapause and reduced estrogen can (and does) reduce hair in pits, legs and down south. Also areas that have been radiated have a good change of losing hair too. At least that's what I have read about radiation.

I finished radiation in mid-November and my underarm hair has never come back which, of course, I am absolutely fine with.  My leg hair came back with a vengence at first.  Then I started on the Femara and that has slowed it down considerably which I don't mind either.  I probably have little estrogen in my body these days.  Will be seeing my gyne for my annual in a couple weeks, and I am sure we will be discussing that.

My ONC's office just called with my blood work results from last week which were all well within normal range.  After taking the mega dose prescription Vitamin D for 8 weeks, my level went from 14 to 53 so I am very happy about that.  Hope that I can keep it up with my OTC supplement.

So today had visits with my PT to work on my range of motion in my arms and did my annual skin scan at the dermatologist.  Last year the DERM found a pre-cancerous melanoma on my shin that was removed the same day I got my BC diagnosis.  Fortunately, this year, my skin scan went great.  Whew!  Tomorrow, just one appt with my other PT who is working on my back thing.  Then back to the other PT for my arms.  This is nutty this week with medical appts!!!!

I am going to look for that cranberry scone recipe tonight.

YEA JOAN!  I'm so glad the blood tests were good and your vitamin D levels are up!  Way to go, gal!

Morning all....23 on the deck but roads are dry. Our subdivision yesterday am was so slick but the main roads were fine. I see snow is not done with us yet tho...

Hair....my radiated underarm has no hair, other side is lighter than it was. Legs only need shaving every 6 weeks or so. That works for me. And yes....getting that very first shaping haircut did wonders as did the color. I swore that when it grew back I would never cut it but funny thing....I've never gone back to long hair. I like it so much better above my shoulders and it dries much faster as well.

Jackie....of course u took the kitty home! Are you keeping it? Name it?

Joan....great news on the D and the rest of your tests. I love getting good news even if it's someone else's!

Not much going on today....just a bunch of errands and then maybe thinking about taking down all the curtains and sending them thru the washer. And then I guess I might as well wash the windows on the inside. Spring is coming and why waste beautiful spring days or these tasks. But....anybody wanna come over and clean some blinds? I hate those. Hmmmm....maybe I should just but some new ones???? Now there's a spring cleaning idea.....out with the old, in with the new!

Hope all are doing well. It will be a nice day....no mayoral ads on TV!

Wendy, you have so much energy. Could you send a little of it "south" to me?

Jackie, I'm so glad that you took that little black cat home with you.  I was telling Dave your story about it and he said,  "Thank God we don't live closer."  I'm a real sucker for black kittens.  In fact, Echo is trying to help me type right now.  I think I would enjoy volunteering at a shelter but I know I'd be upset because I couldn't save them all!  How did kitty get through the night?

I have a regrouping type of morning here today.  Then I'm off to play Redneck Bunco.  It's a different version of the real Bunco and lots of fun.  This past year we started a Wednesday gals group that meets the last Wednesday of every month.  We've done lots of different things (tea rooms, lunches, plays at the Center for Performing Arts, shopping the little shops in the downtown areas or in neighboring towns) and it helps us get through the winter months.  It's been a real hit with the gals.

    So.....I need to get busy!

I hope everyone has a good day!

Joan my D was extremely low 1.5 years ago. I went on prescription D for a month (I think). After I took 1000 IU D-3 a day plus 400IU that was in my mulit-vitamin. 6 months later tested and it was in the low normal range. Then this fall I was diagnosed with osteopenia so I then added 1200 mg Calcium which also included and additional 400 IU D. I was just tested about 2 months ago and I just above the normal range… my internist has no problem with me being that high. So total daily D intake is 1800 IU. Great news regarding blood tests.

Wendy I don't have any blind cleaners but here's some help with the windows: window cleaner

Anyone interested in recipes should check out the "what's for dinner" thread. Many people sharing recipes in there.

Well I survived the dentist yesterday… only a cleaning and exam. Today I see my PS for the first time since I started chemo. Hopefully I will get some sort of time frame to finish fills and do the exchange.

Good morning and it is good as the sun it out.  I need it today -- no special reason other than it helps me not wither.  Had ice out today....a storm rolled thfough quickly and left it.  Will melt off soon thank goodness.

Little black kitty ( male?-female? ) is holding its own out in my screen room.  I think confused as they always seem to be, but it will make the adjustment.  Soon I'll be bringing home the others.  Undoubtedly, one, two, or maybe all of them will end up staying here.  The first four ( excluding this younger black one ) were to come here till there was room at the Shelter.  At the rate things have been going....that could easily be never.  Sorry to say ( doesn't happen quite as much with dogs ) cats breed at least two to three times a yr. and with our size population --- there will always be way too many to go around.

People come to the Shelter usually wanting just one certain kind.....and those roaming around town may not be what they are looking for or are too feral to establish a rapport with for most.  It is hard to see the little faces knowing how much they deserve.  Actually, I'm the last person who should be at a Shelter.  Ours is not big enough, but I'm not sure you could build one big enough and then have the manpower to keep them all safe, clean and healthy.  I think I need to stay in back and quit manning the desk at all.

Hope you all have a wonderful day -- no ice or snow and some much needed sun.

    Hugs, Jackie

I am thinking about you all every day.  I do not write during the day as I worry about security using the school computer.  All is well here and I am adjusting to this ne schedule.  I hate when the alarm goes off.

Rita, it sounds like you are having a blast.  I need a Bunco group.

We finally got a flat screen TV.  Dh and I are living the dark ages as I think we are among the last to get one.  I am not a tv person (except news and old movies) and I do have to say it makes viewing so much more engaging. I am looking forward t viewing TV and I never have before.

    Love to all!

Susan we still don't have a flat screen. Our TV's just won't die. I think my husband has enough credits on his AMX card to get one but has yet to purchase it. See you aren't the only one.

Saw my PS today for the first time before chemo. I now have bigger foobs! This process is so stranged Tongue out He was very happy that everything is in position and they are still "soft".

We just got a flat screen this past month, too!  We also got HD and that really DOES make a difference.  I usually prefer to read a book but I have a few shows that I watch religiously.

Good news from the PS, lago!

So, I really don't think we need this new storm system that's on its way.  They are predicting 5 to 7 inches in our area.  Bah Humbug!!!!!

I have to get up early tomorrow too, Susan.  I have to be out to the cancer center at 8:00 for bloodwork.  I usually get up fairly early but it seems I have a hard time getting in motion anymore.

    Catch you all tomorrow!

    Rita

Hi Girls! Yup...lots of snow coming down here...it's "s"naining - real wet snow/rain. But it is accumulating.

Photographed more pre-school kids today, and will be doing the same all day tomorrow. The kids really are adorable! We only had two that cried! LOL But a few of them sneezed and coughed right in front of my camera! LOL I ducked and then grabbed the hand-sanitizer! LOL I also photographed pre-school classes of 18-20 kids. All were 2-4 yrs old. OMG...quite a challenge to get them to be still, look @ the camera, smile on Q, keep their chins up, heads straight, etc...Wow...I'm exhausted! A few even tried to escape! LOL

Hope you're all tucked in for the night...

Jackie -  Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...you adopted a kitty! How sweet of you. You have a heart of gold. Thanks for all you do.

Not much going on since I've been jailed with my broken toe.. seems to be improving and I should be driving in a week or so.. maybe after my next trip to Seattle..  My DH is finally feeling better as is the Nanny.. I have the runny nose, but nothing like what they had where they couldn't get out of bed.. thanks supplements and green foods!!

On Monday my kids were home.. so we went out for Sushi.. then my daughter and I went to see "No Strings Attached"..Very interesting thing to see with your child..

It was so great to get together with the Northern Girls last week for lunch.. Very hard for me to stay at home for a month knowing I should be out enjoying life.. Thank Gd for Internet and books..

I'm making notes of books to read next.. As a lot of you know, I've been reading cancer books since diagnosis.. well.. I've been starting to read other books lately too.. currently "The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo".. Like it a lot so far..

We are thinking of getting a new car for me and DH wants the Chevy Volt .  It has the electric (hybrid) but has the gas backup after 40 miles. I do not go far!  Anyone have any knowledge on it?

Rita, I find for me that sleeping is all  habit.  I was sleeping  until nine (yes, that is pretty bad).  Now I  am three weeks into 6:30 am alarms and  am doing fine and feel okay.  The first two weeks were awful but now I am feeling just fine.  I am sure that when this job is over, I will return to the later arising. I think I should try not to do that.  I think I looked better with so much sleep, but my "functioning" was the same.

    I hope dinner was fun.

Adey, I hope rads are going okay.  They truly were a pain in the (butt, neck, and chest).  I am fair and I burned.  Are you fair?  It is early, but if you burn, let me know as I found a "saint" who helped me when I had third degree burns.  My rads doctor was on vacation and I was suffering until this "saint" ordered burn gel pads that gave me unbelievable relief.  I hope you do not burn, but if you do, let us know and I will elaborate on this RELIEF.

Hi All. Sorry I have been gone so long. Hope Marybe and the girls are enjoying their evening out. I finished with chemo three weeks ago. Going to be tattooed on Tuesday and then begin rads on March 8. Ive missed you but had the chance to get away for a few weeks and if it were not for the lympedema, I would be soooooo much happier. Spent many days in the sun with no tan but no burn so I guess thats fair....:  (   Onward
