Hi gals!
I just got back from the oncologist and luckily had a good report. My blood tests were all good and I'm on the one year schedule now. I see my surgeon for mammos in December and then see the oncologist in June of NEXT year unless a problem pops up. Removing that 6 month security blanket is a little scary but he said he'd make room for me immediately if I had any issues that I felt needed attention. I did learn that my cholesterol was back up again. Guess I really do need to get back on my walking routine instead of just talking about it and eat a little healthier.
I asked about the Vitamin D issue. My Vitamin D level was 38, which is within the normal range. He said that they had discussed the vitamin D issue at the San Antonio Convention this year. According to him, the concensus at the conference was that low vitamin D levels at the time of diagnosis often coincide with a less favorable prognosis so they know that inadequate vitamin D levels are not good. However, the research is not yet in about whether supplements that raise the vitamin D level can ward off future cancers...especially if the patient is testing within the normal range. He has me taking 1,000 units per day and told me to keep it at that level because that was maintaining a normal vitamin D level for me. There are current research trials being conducted but the results won't be in for another year. I'm sure all oncologists have their own theory about this but just wanted to share what I'd learned today.
Also, he said there were current research trials being conducted and finishing up in the next year on the benefits of Arimidex on the 5 year plan versus the possibility of additional benefits on the 10 year plan. He thought the results should be in before I go off it. 5 more years of it? YUCK That's a scary thought and one I'm not ready to embrace at this time.
Well, I need to get busy. I hope all of you have a great weekend.
Laura, I know you've enjoyed the ski program this year, but truthfully, I sincerely hope that you can hang up those skis for this year!

Some little bugger at school passed on an eye infection to me so I had to go to the doctors. Not pink eye but something called blepheritis. I know I misspelled that and I am too tired to google it.
My eye is all red and ugly. I have the meds so hopefully it will be gone over the weekend. I honestly believe I am the only one I know who wants to stay on arimidex forever. I cannot identify any side effects and wonder if when I do go off the pills if I will feel like superwoman and never realized how they in fact affected me
.Babysitting the girl babies on Sunday. That was one of the reasons I went to the clinic as I was worried it was pink eye. Doctor told me that the antibiotic would kick in by then.
Dismal weather. Denise, I will probably be up foranything in June. Keep us psted.

Zap my dad gets blepharitis. If you want me to ask him questions about it I can.

This thread IS great. Someone knows something about just anything. Yes, it is spelled BLEPHARTIS. Doctor told me to change my mascara...well, he actually told me to stop mascara for awhile. He said he is seeing this and he wonders if the mascara could have bacteria and so we just reininfect ourselves. Sounds clever, but why one eye? So change your mascara as often as you change your toothbrush and if you get BLEPHARTIS, throw your mascara away. But now that I reflect upon it all, I am sure Lago's dad is not using mascara. I am not uncomfortable except when I awake and I cannot open my eye. That is disturbing.
Denise, DH and I are babysitting our two grandbabies (ages 3 going on 5
plus and 2) We adore them, as you adore your own. Wow! That is one big family in one short period of time for your son and DIL. I am sure they appreciate your help. Playing with my grandkids is what my DH and I look forward to the most. I now realize how painful it must have been for my mom and dad to live so far away when my own girls were growing up. They moved to Arizona when I was pregnant. They did great though long distance and my girls recall them with such fondness.Have a great weekend.

Hey Denise....I would love to get together in June. I stayed at the Westin in Lombard this past October. It is a beautiful hotel. The Harry Carey's is in the hotel and is a busy place with great service and those yummy fresh made potato chips!. The Yorktown shopping mall is just across the parking lot. There are also several very good places to eat right in that area.
Hey Laura....Thinking of you today......I scheduled the dreaded colonoscopy today. Just wondering what you ever decided about yours. Nope, not really wondering, just wanted to keep after you about it.
Hello to everyone. I had my windows open for a few hours today. How nice is that? Then the rain started. At least it isn't snow.
Have a great weekend.

Zap....yep, living away from your child and your grand children sucks. My little fella is almost 10 months old and it seems we are missing so many milestones. Skype is cool but not the same as playing and singing and rocking them to sleep.

I can't wait untill June now so I can meet some of my new found friends...
Yes we are fortunate to have son & family just down the street....my son dropped off some laundry tonight which I don't mind at all and the oldest decided he should spend the night...which is also great with Nana & Papa.
I have been fornunate to have lived near family for most of my life...My husband and My parents are all gone on but we have fond memories...
Navy..so sorry you don't live closer to your 10 mo old little guy...but it is kind of neat you can "see" some milestones on Skype..I have never tried that...
.BLEPHARTIS does not sound like much fun at all...I do not use mascara....I had very few eyelashes prior to chemo and have even fewer now so ...it is what it is...no mascara.
Have fun with them grandbabies...they are the joy of our life also.

Morning all....sure sounds windy out but no snow here...33 on the deck. Back to the hooded down jacket I guess. And I opened a window too yesterday....it was grand!
Laura.....HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! And one hundred more!!!!!! Doing anything extra special?
Rita....another 5 years on arimidex? Well.... I would do it but I wouldn't be happy about it. Don't forget too tho that this little wonder pill can raise our cholesterol....it sure did mine.
My doc said not to worry tho as tho it is climbing my chol. ratio is very low and healthy. I have upped my fiber quite a bit so I hope that helps like it's supposed to. It had a good effect already....I lost a couple of arimidex pounds and I am not hungry!
Susan....the rule of thumb is new mascara every 3 mos. So when it goes on sale at Target I buy a couple and there's a note on the calendar. With contacts I don't want to fool around.
An off-topic question....I finally bought a Wii and the fit board. I really like it. Any of you have any other exercise titles or tried the dance ones? I have to admit there is def. learning period with this gaming system! Boy am I old and stupid!
Have a great Saturday all....dress warm!0 -
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAURA!!!!! Celebrate doing your favorite things!
Wendy, I wondered about a connection with the rise in cholesterol and the Arimidex. I thought I had read about that somewhere. I am going to try to get mine down naturally at first and see if that works. Although I'm not an oatmeal fan, I may try to eat oatmeal for breakfast. Also I've heard that apples help and I can handle an apple a day. It does really worry me a little as the women on my mother's side are prone to heart problems.
I hope that everyone has a good weekend. It looks like it's going to be rainy and cold here.

Morning. Still raining here and what a rainstorm last night. We were in the back of a resturant counting money and could not hear ourselves think almost above the din of pounding rain on the roof.
I'm positive Arimidex cause raised cholesterol as well as sugar numbers, but I eat that chocolate 3 or 4 times a day ( I refused the statin drugs that were sent to me ) and within a couple of months my cholesterol went down 34 points -- basically back to normal, as did sugar numbers. I wanted it down, but I am not thrilled with any statins.
Despite the rain..,,,nice to see ground with no snow outside. We are in warmer temps so hope no more white comes along. Hope you all have a great day.
Hugs, Jackie

Hi all,
Happy Birthday Laura!! Hope you have big plans. Jackie, the cake is beautiful.
Today is the three year anniversary since my "big" surgery. I had a crap pathology report, and I feel good. Even though my level of anxiety seems to be growing, I am hoping that this milestone puts my mind somewhat at ease.
I am getting ready for my trip this weekend, we leave Wednesday for Mexico. I hope to just lay by the pool and soak up the sun, and of course have a margarita or two, or three or......!!!
I do not know why, my onc does not do any bloodwork or testing. I always have to go though my gp.
The weather here is lousy, I certainly hope it starts changing by the time we get home.
Wendy, the Just Dance programs for Wii are quite a workout. We have 1 and I just bought 2 last night and have not tried it yet. The broadway one is fair.
Susan, I hope your eye feels better, that can be extremely uncomfortable.
Have a good weekend everyone.

Happy Birthday, Laura! Have a great day!
Yesterday, I called my PCP's office to change an appt date and found out that he had just landed in intensive care and they don't expect him back for maybe a couple months! What???? He was going to do my pre-op testing for my upcoming exchange surgery along with my yearly physical, renew my blood pressure meds, etc. Oh, I could reschedule with one of the other two docs in that office, but I already know that one of them is a pompous jerk (my DH seems him) and I am not sure about the other. So, I decided it was just going to be easier to go down to NW to get my pre-op testing done on March 14. I just want that whole deal to be over NOW! I think my TE's are just getting tighter every day, but I am sure it must be my imagination and my impatience playing out.
My ONC has me on Femara rather than Arimidex. From what I read, they both have the same side effects, but some tolerate one drug better than the other. So far, it is HUNGER and stiff joints for me but the word is still out on if it is doing anything to my cholesterol levels.
I don't like living so far from granddaughter either. They have been in Seattle for a year now. She is 7 and her mom taught her how to call up grandma and grandpa anytime she wants. I grew up living a block away from my grandparents and I always regretted that my own children didn't have that experience. Sigh! I have plans now to go out to Seattle for a visit on March 16th. My DD, GD and I are going to do a "girls weekend" and I cannot wait!
Everyone have a great weekend in spite of this gray day. At least it is warming up.

Happy birthday, Laura. I hope you go out and have a great date tonight with DH!
Lisa, it is funny that you bring up the crap dx. It is to the point now that I have forgotten the dx of people on this Illinois thread. I just think you you as gorgeous and healthy Lisa.
Lisa, my onc never takes blood either and I never even see him for checkups. He said to come if symptoms show up. The next time i will see him (knock on wood) would be a year from now as that is when my arimidex decision will be made. I really need to get a physical with my primary as I have no clue what my cholesterol is (I take crestor) and it has been a awhile that I have had the vitamin D tested and when I went in for my eye yesterday, she said my bp was a little high. That is something I will do when this teaching stint is over (April 16). The latter is okay but I will be most happy when I complete my commitment. All these medical issues make me feel old before my time but I can see that addressing themedical issues perhaps means allowing me to get older with time.
Weird experience yesterday. A former big lug of a teenage student shows up in my room. He tells me that he is going to the funeral of a dear friend of the family who died of breast cancer and he heard I was in the building and wanted to check in to see how I am doing. I was awkward for only a second and then endeared to him. I reassured him, without actually talking about breast cancer, that I was doing great. I guess cancer can last forever.
Have fun today!
Susan

Could somebody who is on Facebook and who knows how to repost links from one place to another help out Mandy? She's posted on Facebook about a contest she has entered to become the Cubs Bat Girl and she needs votes. If somebody could repost it here for the Illinois gals, I know she'd get more than enough votes. Wouldn't it be neat if one of our gals won? I've voted several times from the Facebook posting but I know all of us are not on Facebook. Any volunteers to repost or get that info link to our thread?
