May flowers always line your path and sunshine light your day.
May songbirds serenade you every step along the way.
May a rainbow run beside you in a sky that's always blue.
And may happiness fill your heart each day your whole life through.

Good morning... checking in on Laura...

Sorry.. here is the info on Splenda.. :(   Like I said, if anyone ever has any questions on diet or supplements, let me know.. I just don't want to post too much on it.. but as you all know have done tons of research...

I was also checking to see if Laura had posted an update.  Thinking of you, Laura, and hoping that you get some answers today.  I'll check back later.

Thanks for the Splenda info, makmak.  I thought that there had been some tests already done on it.  I appreciate your information sharing.  It saves me from doing research on my own and you are so knowledgeable since you're already researched everything in the food/diet area.  Thanks again.

Jackie, it is supposed to be nice here today so I bet it will be even nicer in your area.  I plan on walking in just a few minutes.  I had about a 40 minute walk yesterday and will be working on increasing that as the days go by.  I have to admit that once I got my lazy butt out there, it felt pretty good.  I'm just such a good procrastinator!

My daffodils and iris are up.  I may bet energetic later today and get out there and clear off a few of the flower beds.  I'm anxious to get my hands in the dirt again.

    Everyone have a great day!

Happy St. Patrick's day!  Today is one week post bi-mx and it is so nice to see the sun shining in Illinois and feel it warming up.  I'd much rather be out riding my motorcycle but I'm going to be grateful for not being in pain, for being able to sleep all night, and for **TMI coming here** being able to go to the bathroom!

Laura, hope you are feeling better or finding out what is going on with you.

Hope everyone has a good day today.

Morning....geesh !!!  I think there goes my sugar.  I hate to admit....real sugar does not even taste good to me now.  I will have to give Splenda the 21 day heave-ho from the sound of it.

    Laura....hoping for good news.

Caryl....it's not really  TMI, as most of us had some of that.....one way or the other.

I think it is going to be fantastic today -- in the 70's.  I may get to wear much lighter clothes to class today.  I am really enjoying that class  and so glad that my friend talked me into it though she did not have to twist my arm.  I do a lot of things ok, but could do them so much better and I knew that I was missing some valuable info.  I think this is just the start to something good.

I'll be checking in later too.

    Hugs, Jackie

p.s.  Bj -- glad you are going to getting a break.  You deserve it so much to taking care of all those little people.

    Laura,

Will be anxiously checking in along with everyone else, hoping you doc has some answers for you or can at least quickly get you the tests you need.  I agree with Lago-something that came on so quickly and severely sounds more like an infection of sorts....   (says the queen of anxiety who postulated her acid reflux could be esophageal cancer...)

Caught an odd report on Channel two news health segment last night.  Not something I typically watch.  (Truth be told-I can't even make it to the 10pm news many nights...).   Channel switching when I caught promo for "an aggressive type of breast cancer you want to be aware of."   I don't think NEW was specifically called out, but the context certainly made it seem so.  So, of course, I stayed to watch.   5 minute segment  on "rare (?!) aggressive breast cancer that can develop and grow even btw yearly mammograms!" (cue serious music). It's called....triple negative.    Two women were profiled, one with mets, one just recently diagnosed.  Segment spoke about how it only affects 15-20% of women, mostly younger, higher incidence in African American.  Can't use hormonals, misunderstood, less treatment options etc etc.

I found myself suddenly irritated.  TN is not exactly new-I was diagnosed with it 11 years ago.  Nowhere in the segment was it mentioned that caught early enough, TN  can  be managed and often will respond to chemo very well as the cells are so quick growing and this is what chemo specifically destroys.  One quick blip did mention that there has been "improvement" and 5 year survival rates have jumped from something like 20% to 85%--which to me--- is pretty damn significant. And yet that was glossed over-- the rest of the tone was gloom and doom.  I supposed one can make the argument that the primary goal was to raise awareness, yet I felt the report was lopsided and a bit sensational.  I yelled at the tv-but it ignored me, as usual.     sigh

Hi girls. Thanks so much for listening to my groans. WHEW...This is so bizarre! Only me! In the middle of the night I woke up soaking wet. At first I thought it was a major hot flash but then realized it could be the fever breaking. Fell back asleep. Woke up this morning and the headache and shoulder pain was almost gone-temp is normal. My neck still aches but only slightly. HOW WEIRD! If it was/is a virus, could it go away like this? I had an appt scheduled for 10 this AM, so I cld and spoke w/a physician's asst, she said since I was feeling better, I should see how the day goes, if the pain/symptoms resume, to come in, she had some openings. This is just so strange, but I AM SO relieved. Honestly, I thought I had neck cancer or bone cancer. Never felt pain that severe and in such odd places. Years ago, with the "flu" I would get over all body aches, but never just in several areas. I talked to my sis last nite & she said my niece - a couple of months ago - had the same thing. She went to the ER to rule out Meningitis. Her tests came back negative, but she said my niece was sick for almost 2 weeks. I guess I can really consider myself lucky...could be that immune system is simply stronger than hers? Who knows! The only thing I do know, is that I feel better. My fear factor is shattered but oh well! lol

    -------------------------------------------

Want to chime in on the sweetener...jmo...I have an artificial sweetener phobia - big time. When I see the huge bags (2-3 lbs) of it at the store, I just shake my head. Read recently that Aspertame (sp?) was found in some city water. OMG!

Laura... glad to hear you are feeling better today, but I would still be vigilant like your PA said.  I used to be pretty slow to run to the doctor with aches and pains.  Since my DX, I don't hesitate.  I think we have a tendency to become a bit of a hypochondriac when living with this diagnosis.

I am enjoying a fun time with daughter and family, especially my granddaughter in Seattle.  My DH is headed up to Whistler today to ski.... his annual guys trip.  I am going to take it easy today, work from daughter's home, and looking forward to picking up my granddaughter from school this afternoon.  She is such a riot!

Makmak... I have a supplement question.  I was talking to a friend the other day who told me that she take olive leaf extract and that it is known to be the best antioxidant available.  Ever heard of that one?  I have taken myself off all sugars, real or fake, except for a very occasional treat.  Have to have my chocolate, but its usually 80% cocoa.

LAURA- So so relieved you're feeling better!! Maybe just a weird flu after all.. and yeah, stronger immune system definitely helps!!  So happy for you!!

Thanks! Initially I was piss** at the thought of my immune system not fighting off whatever "it" was, but now...YES...I'm somewhat happy/relieved knowing that my system was able to attack it and beat it off in 4 days. I have an all new respect for the word VIRUS! I love my green tea and supplements! lol

Laura thanks for the update. So glad you are feeling better. My gut said it wasn't mets. I don't think mets come one so fast and furious… not that I would know but it doesn't seem like it would.

Julie I get pissed too at many reports/articles in the news. They leave out so much. We are much more knowledgeable because of our diagnosis. Triple negative is probably as uncommon as triple positive but neither are "rare" IMO. Julie you are coming up on your 3 year NED mark. That is really great news for a triple negative. No need for you to be "negative". You are doing great!

Really nice out today. I'm waiting another hour till I go for my power walk. They dilated my eyes today. Oh and get this. I no longer have astigmatism. Go figure.

lago - Wow...how can an astigmatism go away! That's bizarre...sounds like something that would happen to me. lol Did you have it one eye or both?

I think I had it in both eyes. I was shocked too but she said lenses can change/flatten with age. She said it could change again too. She said I can purchase over the counter glasses (1.5+) now that I don't have to correct for the astigmatism.

A month ago she was ready to give my perscription glasses for driving/distance. I told her my eyes were still screwed up from chemo and I wanted to wait. Good call. My distance is 20/20. (I can even read the "20/20" in the bottom right corner Tongue out

    Thanks for the laugh.

Good Afternoon....isn't it great out!  Really enjoying these couple of days....

    Laura...glad you are feeling better!

Rita...good luck on the diet.  Never easy changing the way we eat but I have to admit...oatmeal is delicious!  Never knew that.....

Jackie...your class sounds great, or is it more than one class?  Sounds like it might be lectures and exercise....

Elf/Donna....you two must be so excited about moving!  While you will be sad to leave those behind it will be wonderful and exciting for you, this new chapter in your life!  You two will HAVE to send many pics!

Julie....I too waited up for the "new" cancer info....Really????  Seriously??????  Ch. 2 I have noticed, at least at the 10pm timeslot...has gotten rather sensational.  I threw a pillow at my TV in disgust!

Adey....I'm not a runner but I did keep up with the gym all thru chemo and rads.  I really think it made a huge difference to keep moving.

    Lisa....almost done!  Whew!

Joan...glad you are enjoying your visit!  Hows the weather, temp-wise?

Caryl....wow!  Just a bit out of surgery and you are eyeing your motorcycle?  Now there's a tough IL gal!  Wooo Hooo!

Susan....almost done and then you are off to enjoy this great weather with all that extra moola in your pocket!

Boy...you girls are really chatting about foods these days!  While I do appreciate all the info (in fact I checked my pantry and tho I rarely make any, I tossed all the sugar-free jello and puddings!) with the internet we can find so many articles claiming so many things...for every bad article on any one item I can probably find two that state that said item is perfectly fine....IN MODERATION.  I will continue to drink my diet, caffiene-free soda once or twice a week, eat my dairy, drink my 2 glasses of wine each week...etc...and not worry about it.  My onc has always said its not what you eat, but how much and how often.  He also feels that we are born with these nasty cancer cells and we all have different switches that wake them up.  I think it was Lago who said, very wisely, maybe we will discover that Kiwi was the culprit.  I enjoy all foods too much to cut so much out of my diet but then some of my very favorite foods are hot dogs and salami and I only allow myself to eat them once a year.  Maybe I need to follow my own advice on that one!  I do read all your info and links tho....very interesting stuff so thank you always for providing it.

Rene...count me in as one who laughed out loud at your story!  Just the other day I could not understand why I was having such trouble seeing while driving...was really worried that there was something going on again with my eyes.  It helps if I don't wear my glasses and contacts at the same time!  Duh......

Hope everyone else is doing great....Waving at you Nicki....

Very cloudy out now but still going out for my 2 mile walk....but maybe I will check the weather first just to be sure

Oh...and Lago....I did get out my weights (altho I use machines at the gym) and did a bunch of squats and lunges.  In a word.....OW!!!!  :)

wendy - You're so right about so much information "out there"... many years ago when I first tried artificial sweeteners, I always got a headache (especially Crystal Light). Something in the sweeteners did not agree with me, so I always stayed away from them and never again had headaches.

Wendy I don't start using the weights with squats and lunches till next week. Last week end I was so sore but this week not so much. I'll be starting with only 3lbs in each hand. I need to work up slowly because of the LE.

Marina - Thanks for the link about Splenda.  Mercola is a little controversial, particularly if you read the Wikipedia on him, but I still like reading all sides of the issue.

I'm with Wendy on the moderation front.  I am always berating 2 of my sister-in-laws who drink multiple cans of diet pop every single day!   Of course, they don't listen to me.

Laura - Glad to hear you're feeling better.

I'm sneaking a few minutes on the computer here at work while I have a gap.  I hear it's beautiful outside.  *sigh*

I'm totally with Wendy on the "Everything in Moderation" statement. If I had a diagnosis and prognosis that was at all different, that's exactly what I'd do.. I am simply providing the links for info.. but by no means am I saying anyone should do what I do.. heck even I don't want to.. :)

Haven't told you guys something.. but last week I felt a very large and painful lump in my bad breast.. Freaked out.. and my DH wanted me to call my Onc.. but I had my annual with my Gyne today.. he assures me it's the hardening dead cells and that he doesn't feel any lump at all.. PHEW.. I will be getting my mammo in Sept.. per his encouragement, even though my Onc doesn't order them routinely for me..

Another cool thing.. the Natural Foods store in my neighborhood is doing organic produce boxes.. 10 and 20 lbs of fruit, veggies or mixed.. I just picked up my box.. the price is cheaper per pound than Dominicks regular veggies.. It's so fun as it's a lot of different things each week.. and it'll force me to be creative to ensure I use it all up.. though I stir fry so much that anything goes.. :)

One more week of having a Nanny... sigh.. it'll be quite an adjustment.. but I am now strong enough to do it!!

Shucks Lago....thought the secret to your fantastic shape was eating while doing weights!

Mak.....I would be doing exactly what you are doing if I had your diagnosis! Glad too that the lump was nothing. The fruits/veggies mix sounds delish!

And I ate healthy at dinner so I could have my once-yearly St Patty treat...DH and I split the package of 2 green snowballs....horrible calorie and sugar count, horrible sat. fats.....and it was soooooo worth it. Yum!

Have a great evening....and watch out for dive-bombing birds!
