Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday Dear Adddddddeeeeyyyyyy, Happy Birthday to you.
I cannot imagine having to share my birthday with a cancer diagnosis. However, when you get to around 75, Ive been told you will have forgotten about that.....lol.
Love you, Onward/Caryn

Happy Birthday Adey!
Makmak -- I'm thinking of you, and agree with what everyone has said -- if your onc was really concerned, he wouldn't wait three months. I hope you get some relief from the stress soon.
I'm sure I'm missing lots of things to comment on, exactly how long does chemo brain last, anyway? Seems I'm not keeping track of everything the way I should.
Well, off to the elementary school open house tonight, the twins are very excited.
Can anyone recommend a good family restaurant on Devon Ave? Sunday is Mother's Day AND my husband's birthday, so we're going out, once the soccer games are over for the day, so we'll probably be there for dinner. Looking for a nice restaurant, but family friendly as we'll be bringing the four kids with us.
Hope everyone is having a good day.

Well if you like Pakistani food I highly recommend Sabri Nihari. Large family style portioned dinners. I see families in there all the time. They don't serve alcohol0

Devon is pretty much all Indian and Pakistani food. I am very much like Lago in that I LOVE food on Devon (I like Tiffins) but your kids might not and it is hard parking too, although lago has gotten around that.
If you go down Broadway from Devon there is Moody's Pub and that is great for family. If the weather is nice you can sit outside on the patio. My DH and I hung out here during college (Loyola) and for sentimental reason we return often. So take peak and tell me if you go. Maybe you can even print a coupon
Dh and I love Cellars on Broadway (two doors south of Moodys Pub but pricier and not what I would call family dining. Last time I looked, they did offer a brunch.
have fun!

Thanks lago and zap! We are actually specifically looking for Indian food.... our kids like all the breads, tandoori chicken and slowly but surely they are getting used to the spices and enjoy appetizers like samosas. Only a matter of time before we get them used to the full array! And I am buying the Indian Slow Cooker cookbook this week, so I can start cooking more vegetarian and healthy options at home.....
Is there much of a difference between Pakistani and traditional Indian?

I find the Pakistani is not quite as spicy, although it is spicy. They have Nan as well. My husband is a big tandoori chicken fan. He orders chicken tikka boti or chicken boti. I order Frontier Chicken all the time. We always order the vegetable somosas. I highly recommend the Chicken Makhani as well. To be honest I don't think there is much on the menu that isn't taste. Remember the portions are big. You can easily get 2-3 servings per dish depending on the dish. Rice & nan come separately. We prefer the plain na. Plan on bring some home!
If you like Indian I would be really surprised if you didn't like the food at Sabri Nihari.
Hema's Kitchen is also very popular on Devon (Indian). She opened one right around the corner from be but over the past few years I found the food to be toned downed for the Lincoln Park hood.

Lago - Hope you start feeling better soon and the exchange surgery is still on.

Okay, Lisa, I get it! You want Indian/Pakistani food and your kids are good with that. Love it. Skip Moody's this time around. I like Tiffins but I have been told that it is not authentic. Lago would be able to tell you if that is true. If you are immersing your family into a totally Indian/Pakastin eating experience, go with Lago's suggestion , .Lago, you and I should really do lunch or dinner on Devon.
Also LIsa, you can go to the groceries to pick up foods as well as places that sell cooking utensils used to prepare Indian/Pakistani foods. I am ecited for your family.

Char the exchange surgery is pushed up a month from May 27h to now June 24th. So strange when I saw you the other day I was doing fine.
Zap it's a date as soon as I am out of shingles hell.

I am sorry, Lago. I buy when we meet on Devon. I am calling the doc tomorrow for the vaccine. Thank you for letting us know how important it is to get it.
0 -
Glad I can warn folks! No one needs to suffer with this if there is a vaccine that at the very least can reduce the severity.

Adey.... Happy Birthday. I don't think that I will have to wait til 75 to forget stuff like that. Heck! I have spent alot of time today trying to find stuff that I had in my hands a minute ago! Arrrgh!
Lago... get better soon. So sorry you had to move your exchange date a month later. Real bumer! My second one is scheduled for June 15th so we can recover together.

Lago....I know shingles are the pits. My hubby had them around his upper chest years ago. You can't see me but I'm knocking on wood rather furiously. Hope you get some meds and feel a lot less pain soon.
Julie, prayers, love and healing hugs for tomorrow. Hugs to Mom too.
Buddy, Onward,Char Susan & Nana......hi from my little corner of the woods. Due to rain tonight here...maybe it will make it a bit warmer.
See you all in the morning.
Hugs, Jackie

Hope you had a great birthday, Adey! Also big congrats on your one year anniversary.
You can eat delicious food on Devon, buy the same ingredients at the grocery, and shop for a beautiful sari to wear while feasting. Love it, except for the parking.
Julie, thinking of you, and sure that all will go well tomorrow.
Marina, I'm thinking inflammation and nothing else! I've had a couple of those darn nodes over the last few years, and I know how hard the waiting can be. Can't wait to hear more about the prom.
Lago, I'm so sorry you're in pain. I remember when my DH had shingles it was very painful. He had it on his shoulder, wrapping around from front to back. It started with shoulder pain a few days before the rash broke out, and he didn't realze what it was until he woke up with the rash about the third morning. We got antivirals the same day, but took several weeks to go away.
Susan, good idea to check with your onc about the shingles vaccine. I don't think it is yet approved for cancer patients, and especially if you have had chemo. It's only about 50% effective anyway, but you have the vaccine, and get shingles it is usually a milder case. At least that is what the information about the vaccine states.
All this talk about Indian food, which I love, is sending me into the kitchen in search of a midnight snack!

It's the Indian in me that can't pass this up:
Wakan Tanka, Great Mystery,
teach me how to trust my heart,
my mind,
my intuition,
my inner knowing,
the senses of my body,
the blessings of my spirit.
Teach me to trust these things
so that I may enter my sacred space
and love beyond my fear,
and thus walk in balance
with the passing of each glorious sun.

Hey, good morning. I think I'm going to get my wish. The coming weeks' temps will all be in the 80's so I'm going to be sweating soon.
I have a question and that is a little rare for me. I just purchased ( on line ) a brand of Vitamin/Mineral called Alive. Just wondered if anyone here might use that brand and if so....what do you think of it.
Hope you all have a fantastic day. I'm off to the Shelter soon.
Hugs, Jackie
p.s. Maggie back in hosp. with uncontrolled high blood pressure. Hope they can get that fixed soon.
