Hi Marina...you have me excited now too. I hope you do stay really optimistic because I think it helps the meds work better. They can go right to the heart of the matter and do their work and don't have to dodge tears and a sluggish system along the way.....no distractions, so side trips, no having to build up steam because its already there.
Hugs, Jackie

Marina - So happy that you found that book at it is able to help you see what is happening in your body - keeping my fingers crossed for you.

lago and zap -- Thanks for the great restaurant suggestion, we had a wonderful meal at Sabra last night. Kids loved it, we did too. I'm sure we will be back. Back downtown tomorrow night for my son's end of year Chicago Youth Symphony performance. He is waiting on the edge of his seat to find out about his placement audition, whether he will move up to the next level orchestra. Then my older daughter will try out for high school cheerleading on Saturday, THEN the following Sunday, my younger daughter auditions for the dance ensemble at her dance school, THEN the following week, her twin sister will try out for her soccer club. This is such a stressful time of year.... hope that everyone is happy.
Started rads this morning, one down, twenty seven to go.
Almost, almost came home with a puppy on Saturday, true impulse idea, since we have two cats that are delightful. All the girls in the family are working on DH, who is dead set against the idea. Was a really cute mixed breed.... part Shih Tzu, part Maltese. We shall see how long I can hold out.

I'm about to nod off on my keyboard here, but I wanted to pop in and say hi. Also, a Happy belated Mother's Day to everyone who celebrated.
Julie - I hope you're taking it easy and healing well.
Mak - Make sure you take plenty of prom pics! I'm also glad you're feeling more confident about the inflammation situation. It sounds like your doctors feel pretty good about it too.
Susan - Your "working" Mother's Day sounds wonderful - especially the Thai food!
BJ - I'm curious what culinary magic your son performed for you on Mother's Day. What a treat to have him cook for you!
My DS and 3 of his friends have started apartment searching in the city. Mostly they are looking in the Lincoln Park area, because they need to be in reasonable proximity to the expressways. 3 of the 4 of them will be reverse-commuting. Also, finding a 4 bedroom apartment/condo in the city is TOUGH! But they have seen a few good options, and a few places that were total dumps. Fortunately, they aren't in any hurry.
lago - I hope the shingles are better, or at least not worsening. My daughter had them when she was 11 years old! From what my pediatrician told me at the time, it's not as uncommon as people think for kids to get them and usually they are short-lived in kids. Hers were along a rib line, but only lasted a week or so. Hope yours are short-lived as well.
Rita - I hope your walk went as wonderfully as ours did. Isn't it inspiring to see all the people who come out and show how much they care?
We leave for vacation in 2 weeks and as much as I'm looking forward to it, I feel totally unprepared. I have a lot of work and other obligations to deal with in the next few weeks, and I haven't even thought about all the packing and other details. I'm a bit obsessive about my travel plans and it's driving me nuts that I still don't have all my details handled - like dinner reservations. Ah, well, everything will fall into place eventually, I'm sure.
We did luck out and had gorgeous weather for the Y-Me walk on Sunday. What a great weekend to spend downtown with the family. I love the Y-Me walk because even though they do have thousands of walkers, it's very accessible for everyone. Here's a good picture of our "team." I couldn't have asked for a better way to spend Mother's Day. We went out for sushi afterwards, making it a perfect day all around!

Great picture Rene! What a handsome group! You are so right..........it's very inspiring to see all those who really do care! I love the Y-Me shirt designs, too!

Rene, if your son needs a realtor (he finds rentals), let me know as my dd knows of one. Yes, four-bedroom is tough. DD has a three bedroom in an old brownstone in Lakeview, but I have not seen a 4-bedroom. The picture is wonderful and you really had a great day to do the walk. Thanks for doing that!
Makmak, you sound good. Of course it is hard to remain optimistic but your doctors are. DH is reading this book titled Hope in an Anxious Time (he says it is dry reading) and it includes a great deal on oncologists who must foster hope. They see survivors who should not have survived according to the stats and they see new treatments, vaccines, clinical trials that just might be the ticket for one of their patients.
It is so pretty today. I am starting my container gardens. I wish we had land and that I could have a veggie garden.
Take care,
Susan

Oh Susan I have a fenced in garden and nothing in it!! I have no clue how to even begin!!
Beautiful out! We are in the park with
gab singing in a swing!! Hope everyone can get out to enjoy!0 -
LisaMom - WOWWY...you are one busy Mom! Best wishes with rads...
Irene - That photo is great! You all look so healthy and happy.
-------------------------------------
Mom's on her way to spend a couple of days with us here in the forest. Will treat her like the queen that she is...I love spending time with her. I'm so fortunate she's healthy and energetic.
It's nice and warm today...ENJOY and make the most of it.
Julie - How are you feeling today?

Hi Guys - I'm so sorry to just jump in here & ask this... but we got the confirmation that mom has BC, and the pathology. I spoke to the MD, but didn't see the actual path report yet.... she has 1.5 cm tumor. He said it's is ER-/PR- and "her2 Equivocal". I tried to look this up but my head is kind of spinning right now. Does this mean she is her2+ or her2- (meaning triple neg) ? I appreciate any help you guys - thanks so much, Julie
0 -
BusterMom if her HER2 is Equivocal be sure they used the FISH test. I believe they must do the test again on another part of the tumor to be sure one way or the other. There can be false negatives.
So the answer is, You don't know yet.
sorry about mom. BTW is this from the surgery or biopsy?
0 -
Hi lago - this is from the biopsy. Thank you so much for explaining this to me. So maybe once it's removed we can find out for sure about the her2 status.
Oh, and the surgeon, Dr. R....... I called him up to ask what type of BC my mom has & he said "oh, garden variety breast cancer'. I'm like - YOU MORON!! So, I asked about receptors, etc.. he said "oh good question"... so the clown didn't' even look at her path report before speaking to my mom or me.
Anyhoo - I'll be taking her to Dr. Velasco, (thanks for the recs everyone!) since he's nice & close to her.
OK - I could blather on forever right now... so I won't... XOXO julie

Julie the biopsy from the surgery will be more accurate. In a biopsy they can only get certain areas of the tumor and may miss others. Yes they will test everything all over again. They did with mine.
Glad you're seeing another BS. Dr R is treating you like you're a moron.

Hi ladies - I hope all the Mothers out there had a nice day Sunday.
Glad to hear that all went well with Julie!
Mich - sounds like you will be having some fun on the boat this summer! We must be rubbing off on them, BJ!
Great picture Rene!

A very warm hello to all. Exchange date set for September 1st.

Yay Adey! Are you having it done at our giant west loop facility. If I'm not working I can come by and visit. Will it be out patient or are they going to keep you over night?
0 -

I'll come see you in June too! I don't know if it will be at the old Rush or the fancy smancy new Rush. My PS keeps you over one night. Soft foobies rule! Can't wait.

Hi girls! Haven't checked in for awhile but have been trying to keep up my reading. Bustersmom... sorry about your mom, but it is so good that she has you looking out for her. LisaMom... geesh, how do you ever keep up with all your children's acitivites. I guess that is why we have kids when we are young! Rene23... thanks for doing the Y-Me Walk. I really should have gotten off my behind and done that also. Next year.... and don't let me forget. Makmak... keep on looking up. You have lots of reasons to do that. Hope that you are enjoying lots of fun play times in the park with Gabby. She is such a sweetie.
I had my 3-month follow-up with ONC today. Rather uneventful, I guess. Spent most of my visit with his PA who I really love. She just ran her report by my ONC who stopped in to say hi and say "gosh, you look really good", so that was his professional opinion. He will call tomorrow with blood work results so have fingers crossed that all is well there. Asked them to run another Vitamin D check as well. Still have to go into Northwestern next week for my pre-op testing for my second exchange surgery so they will have to run their own battery of blood work as well.
Adey... taking the next step on Sept 1st! That feels good to get that on the schedule.

Adey I'm outpatient but I'm not having any borrowed skin procedures. Just stolen fat procedures. I'll be like Joan was. I was allowed in the recover with her husband.
I thought the new Rush was just offices. I finally know my way around that place and now I'm going to have to learn all over again. I'll leave pink ribbon bread crumbs for us.
Joan, here you go again!

Yeah, why not? It was so much fun the first time, may as well do it again. Seriously, the exchange surgery is truly a piece of cake. Heck, I went grocery shopping on the way home that afternoon. By evening, I had nearly forgotten that I'd had surgery that morning.......until I crashed in to bed at 8am!

But this time are they going to do fat grafting? That involves a little more discomfort. Bring your soft yoga pants to go home in!
0 -
oh, you're right, Lago. Fat grafting could leave my tummy a little sore. I think I am sort of looking forward to that though. Why not shift it up north before it falls any further south?

We just had a very dramatic storm....hail and the whole bit. The cat was freaking out.
Congratulations to ALL (and there are many) who are moving on with their treatments and their reconstructions.
BJ, are you counting? I am working about two days/week these days to make the spending money I will love to have when in Sante Fe...maybe a nice piece of jewelry. I am going with my dd and she is making me nervous. Her list of things to do include hot air ballooning and horseback riding. Both, I am sorry to say, scare me. I am like the cowardly lion, I would love to have courage to do such things. I also hate snakes so hiking is even questionable. We may have to split up so I do not put a damper on her love of adventure.
Everyone, be well and happy!
Susan

Hi gang, happy Thursday!

Quiet here today.....been pretty toasty here but no water lately....I think the Chicago area is getting all of it. We have the door and windows open and fans to move the air around so it feels fairly good.
I'm still putting in some long days for now but hope to see things slow soon. Maggie remains in the hospital -- 9 days now and no end in sight. This is not a good thing for me. So many trips into town to see to her pets....and to visit her. I'm also taking care of someone else's dog overnight....hope she is not too late getting back tomorrow. Forgot to tell her that I would be out at the Shelter. Oh well....we will just have to do the best we can.
Hope you are all having a fantastic day and not getting wet and soggy.
Hugs, Jackie

Just talked to my ONC's PA about some results of tumor marker tests done yesterday. They were both well within normal range but it does concern me that they were a tiny bit elevated over last tests. I know that alot of ONC's don't even do these tumor marker tests as they have proven to be quite unreliable. She offered to let me repeat them again in a month or so. Do any of you get these tests? Still waiting for my Vit D level test to come back.
Ready for a break already from this heat and humidity. Can't believe that I agreed to go to Phoenix next weekend to meet up with a couple high school girl friends. I am sure it will be 95 degrees. What was I thinking????
