    Twelve Rules For Happiness:

Happiness is a habit, a by product of right thinking and living.

    1. Live a simple life. Be temperate in your Habits. Avoid Self-seeking and selfishness. Make simplicity the keynote of your daily plans. Simple things are best.

    2. Spend less than you earn. It may be difficult, but it pays large dividens in contentment. Keep out of debt. Cultivate frugality, prudence and self -denial. Avoid extravagance.

    3. Think constructively. Train yourself to think clearly and accurately. Store your Mind with useful thoughts. Stand porter at the door of your mind.

    4. Cultivate a yielding disposition. Resist the common tendency to want your own way. See the other's viewpoint.

    5. Be grateful. Begin the day with gratitude for your opportunities. Be glad for the privilege of life and work.

    6. Rule your moods. Cultivate a Mental attitude of Peace and goodwill.

    7. Give generously. There is no greater Joy in life than to render happiness to others by means of intelligent giving.

    8. Work with right motives. The highest purpose of your life should be to grow in spiritual grace and power.

    9. Be interested in others. Divert your mind from self-centeredness. In the degree that you give, serve and help, you will experience the by product of happiness.

    10. Live in a day tight compartment. That is live one day at a time. Concentrate on your immediate task. Make the most of today.

    11. Have a hobby. Nature study, walking, gardening, music, golfing, carpentry, stamp collecting, sketching, voice culture, public speaking, foreign language, chess, books, photography, social service, travel, authorship. Cultivate an avocation to which you can turn for diversion and relaxation.

    12. Keep close to God. True and enduring happiness depends primarily upon close alliance with him. It is your privilege to share his thoughts for your spiritual nourishment and to have constant assurance of divine protection and guidance.

Morning....Really hot, but I'm doing ok.  I think because I keep drinking as much water as I can hold.  Also, out here in our country setting....it is usually about 5 degrees cooler than in town.  We are having deep August weather.

The 12 Rules above are old, but I still think a good thing.  I like #3 a lot.  I sometimes think a little more than I should and end up apologizing.

    Stay cool if you can.

    Hugs, Jackie

We're back from a wonderful family vacation.  I treasure these trips more and more as my kids (and myself) get older. Vacations are wonderful, but getting back into the swing of things, notsomuch.

I need to get ready for work, but in skimming I see that there's a get-together happening?  I don't see the details though, so if anyone can post or email that I'd appreciate it. Although, unless it's a Friday, I probably won't be able to make it.  Have fun regardless!

Welcome to the new members of our very exclusive club.   I met a fellow b.c. sister at work recently and told her how to find us here.  We'll see if she finds us and decides to post or not.  I think there are very likely a lot women who prefer to lurk - sharing the feeling of comraderie, but not comfortable opening up themselves.  I think it's all good as we all have very personalized needs.

I've mentioned before about this annoying lump in my mastectomy foob.  I've had it MRI'd and scanned twice by my surgeon and it just doesn't show anything.  He says it might be related to the implant, but he's really not sure.  It's nagging at me, and I'm not sure what to do next about it.  Maybe seen my P.S. again?  Any suggestions?

Okay, off to work now.  Have a great (and hot!) day everyone!

    Hi,

I'm doing better now, thanks.  I am settling into the Stage 3 thing and finding women who are alive long after diagnosis.  I am still healing but it looks a little better each day.  I have about a half inch of black and white hair on my head.  I still wear my wig to work but as soon as I get home, off it goes.  I get my next surgery on July 28th and then I will be done with all three surgeries.  I feel like my breasts are hard rocks but I hope with time that will pass.  I appreciate all the support I have received on this site.  NO ONE understands what we go through except the ladies on here.  Hope you're all having a good day.

    Love,

    HI Nancy,

Glad to see that you are healing everyday. Taking on day at a time is really all we can do when we are still in the planning stages. Once we get past that life seems to take a different turn for the better.  Sending you big healing hugs your way.

    Take care,

    Hello Illinois ladies,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this.  I haven't gone on this site in a long time, but I just wanted to recommend a great plastic surgeon in Illinois.   Dr. Shah is located in Oak Lawn and Orland Park, Illinois (southwest suburbs of Chicago).  I had a unilateral mastectomy done in 2008 and he did my breast reconstruction in 2010/2011.  The whole process went so well.  He was very precise and careful and made sure he understood what I wanted.  His staff was so friendly and helped me relax.  Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn was fantastic.  The results are amazing and I just wanted to share this with other women in my area.  (It took me such a long time to find the right doctor!)

    Take care,

    Beth

Just a post note here.  I see that the Weber Grill Is not cheap.  I frankly  thought it was burgers!  I did call and they do have "Small Dishes" under starters and they are lunch faire.  I know I will probably  be doing that myself.

Beth, that was nice of you to suggest a good doctor!  IT is all so hard.  Illinois nancy, thanks for popping in and I am happy you are feeling better.

I received an email from Wendy as I have been missing her.  As many of you may know, she is having problems with her thumb.  She has been such a  "guide" for me in the past and I sure hope she gets better quickly.  I guess  my mom was right when she said Life wasn't easy!

Just waving hello.Just want you ladies to know I do read this thread daily just don't always have anything to say. No birds attacking me lately.

I go for my pre-op appointment tomorrow. Before you know it I will no longer have stripper boobs! I will be bringing them to lunch though. Oh and I'm going for my first haircut (trim) since mid October. Funny but I didn't think I would be sans headband till the end of July.

Hope everyone is keeping cool. I made the mistake of letting my friend drive today. She has no AC in  her jeep. I was shvitzing all day.Cry < closest emoticon to represent shvitzing.

Laura & Joan how is the LE? Mine isn't worse but not sure its getting better now either.

Also have to stop by and wave hello to everyone, now that I have finished catching up. We spent last weekend back in South Dakota taking care of some issues with our farm along the Missouri River.  Lots of flooding, but our property seems to be safe for now.  We still have another week of rising water levels so will see what happens.

Not sure if I ever said welcome to Nancy, so "WELCOME".  I am a Stage 3 also, but BS says that it is still considered early so I try not to get too frantic about it.  I just had my third hair trim today and it is starting to look like I actually have a real hair style now.  DH is really liking it and wants me to keep it short, but I don't think that I will be satisfied with the length for at least another 6 months.

My second exchange surgery is coming up next Wednesday.  For some reason, I am not getting at all anxious about it yet.  I do want to get the last of my gardening done this week as I know that I am going to be under some movement and lifting restrictions for a few weeks after surgery.  DH says he is planning to take about 10 days off work to stay home and make sure I behave after surgery.Undecided

Hope that everyone is staying cool in this heat.  I skipped out on golf today as I was afraid it would cause my LE to flare up.  My LE has been minor and very stable, but I have been very careful about taking care of it.  It never has caused any pain.  Sure hope that Laura is doing better.  And Lago, keep after yours too.

    Good morning...

I am now officially done with Seattle.. Came back yesterday after my last trip where they took 25 tubes of blood!!  Of course Monday night I developed Gab's cold.. so flying back was fun.. and I am stuffed and my ears haven't popped yet.. Gab woke up with a fever.. :(  but it's slight enough to go to daycare as I really need today to recover.. I'm exhausted.. My body just can't take as much these days..   It was 50's in Seattle.. and close to double here today.. hopefully my air will keep up!!

Hello to everyone and hope you are all enjoying the sunshine...

    Hi Joan,

Thanks for the welcome.  It's nice to see another Stage 3 lady doing so well.  I see you are from Crystal Lake.  My daughter's significant other is from there also so my daughter spends a lot of time there.  I am planning on learning to golf someday soon.  My husband and son are both golf coaches and think it would be good for me.  I have started back to work full time again so I have to start on weekends or nights.  I'm hoping it will be a good diversion for me.  Good luck with your upcoming surgery.  I hope it is painfree and you heal quickly.

    Take care,

    Nancy

makmak... congrats on finishing up in the trial in Seattle. That's alot of blood you left there! Keep us updated on the results of the trial.  I had trouble clearing my ears after a flight once and my doctor had me take Benadryl and that took care of it.

I was determined to get in my morning bike ride in spite of the heat today.  Only rode 5 miles and felt like doing more, but decided I shouldn't push my luck.  I'm treating myself to a visit to my Reiki/Reflexology therapy this afternoon... other than that I am in my chilly, air-conditioned office with a sweater on.  Can't wait for that refreshing weather we are going to wake up to tomorrow morning!

IllinoisNancy... take it easy going back to work full-time.  Sounds like your hair is on its way and you will be ready to ditch the wig full-time soon.  Golf is a time consuming sport, and that is why I am playing a late afternoon 9-hole league.  It gets me out of the office and a great chance to socialize with some really great ladies who have been seeing me through this BC journey as well.  Not like the ladies on this thread, for sure, but they still make good cheer leaders.

    Stay cool today, girls.

Yay makmak. Must feel good to be done.

Joan I got my walk in yesterday morning but didn't today. I'll have to do some light stregnth training tonight instead… unless it cools down early.

LE is getting better. I think the massage is actually working this time! I was getting a little concerned it couldn't get this firm area on my lower arm softened but today it feels softer.

IllinoisNancy have you checked out the hair hair hair thread? Some people are slower than others. I felt mine came in rather quickly. I'm looking forward to the Halle Berry look by the end of the summer… the hair that is not the boobs

    Hey Lago,

I love the Halle look.  My hair seems to be getting thicker faster than it does longer.  I guess it is just filling in.  My family keeps asking me if I colored it because it is so dark.  I always had black hair and blue eyes with fair skin which is rather odd but it is the Irish in me.  Over the years I had lightened it to a medium brown with hightlights.  I kind of like the darker color again so I think I will keep it and just color the silver after it gets a little longer.  I so hope I never have to go thru chemo again but I know that it always could crop up again.

    Take care,

    Nancy

I live to experience something new each day - to learn something new, meet a new friend, bring joy into someone's life, feel the wind newly on my skin, touch a new fear, a new anger, and with focused intent and good fortune, find an ample measure of my own joy.

Good morning everyone.  I too like the Halle look.  She has a beautiful face to go along with.  I'm thinking --- like so many others that look different, would I recognize this lady without make-up.  Ok, I'm odd......always thinking things no one else does.

Marina...glad you are done with Seattle. Back to normalcy.  Hope the cold and sniffles get better soon.  It always feels so backward in weather like this.

Nancy....you have my vote for going back to black hair  Coloring does give hair body though so working with any silver should keep you looking sharp.

We will be moving towards cooler temps ( whew !!! ) as the week-end starts.  I'm ready.  I'd like to get back outside more.  Actually, I am hoping we can turn the a/c off again for a while.  This is one of the earliest times we have ever had to have it on.  Have been known to make it to 1st. or 2nd. week of August --- an obvious preference for me.

Hope you are all going to have a good day though it seems rain may be gracing the North.

    Hugs, Jackie

Jackie...I'm with you on not turning the air on too soon.  I set mine between 78 -80...i do not like the bill for any cooler.  Had to call heat & air guy....compressor froze up and it was staying at 83....luckily it just needed freon...hoping that is the only issue....with being gone next week I wont be here to keep an eye on it....We have a pool and a dog so ...several of my son's' college volleyball girls (he is head coach here at Greenville College) are staying at the house to take care of it all....(Hopefully with no problems)

I'm really looking forward to next Tuesday....

I like the Halle look also and am seriously considering getting my hair cut short again since it has grown out.  I may have to do a hair salon dlay while I'm entertianing myself next week.  My hair came back in thicker (in most places) and has more body.

    Stay cool everyone,.

makmak...that hand foot mouth disease is not fun...my grandsons had it last year....

Sorry if I missed anyone...trying to go back and see what is going on and catching up....

    Hi gals,

I love these hot days!  I'm a real summer person.  It's those frigid winter days that I can't take!

I've been reading about all of you every day but just haven't posted much lately..

Blackjack..........you're free!!!!  I'm sure you'll find lots of interesting and fun things to do this summer.

Makmak....so glad the Seattle trips are over! That's got to be a big relief.

Susan....Wow!  You're the jungle jewel queen for this week.  I've never had that high of a score!  You were on fire, gal!

Marsha...won't be long now and you'll be meeting those wonderful northern gals for lunch.  I'm so glad that you're going to get to meet them!  Enjoy your trip north.

Wendy.....Darn that thumb.  Sending healing hugs your way.

Illinois Nancy, it's good to have you back.  You were missed.  Which golf course around you is the best one to play?  We sometimes come your way when we drive up to the Rock Falls area and are always looking for a new, interesting course.  I'm also glad that you are doing better.

Jackie, I continue to enjoy your quotes and your comments.  I'm really serious about trying to get down your way this summer.  Right now I'm on hold, though because my son got a new job and will be relocating to the Batesville, Mississippi area from Lexington.  I will probably take the 3 boys for several days while they "house hunt" as they would like to be relocated before the boys would start school.  Once I know when I'm going to be needed, I'll get hold of you and see what we can set up.

I hope you gals who are struggling with the LE are doing O.K. with this steamier weather.  Hang in there!

To all of those that I missed, enjoy these summer days, summer activities, and good friends.

This has been a great day.  I spent the morning with grandkids.  One went to the dentist and the dentist  was able to COUNT the teeth without tears.  Next time the dentistr  will clean the teeth! I am terrified of dental work, so I support this approach! Then we painted, did bubbles, and read books.  I love this sort of day. Then I came home and got tickets for Peter Pan......Broadway  in Chicago!  It has been extended and I strongly suggest that moms and grand moms and just girls who love Peter Pan get tickets!  It is suppose to be very good.

It is cold here, girls!  I cannot believe the weather change.

Nana, we will be a small group next week but small is the beginning to bigger, so we will have a fine time.

Jackie, I am learning from  Messages from the Masters.  I am reading it slowly as there is so much to take in.

JJ is so addicting, Rita.  I do it until I can BEAT YOU and Connie.  It was such a relief to hit the jackpot so I could relinquish the competition.

    I wish you happiness.

Thought for today:  June 10, 2011

"Build this day on a foundation of pleasant thoughts. Never fret at any imperfections that you Fear may impede your progress. Remind yourself, as often as necessary, that you are a creature of God and have the power to achieve any dream by lifting up your thoughts. You can fly when you decide that you can. Never consider yourself defeated again. Let the vision in your heart be in your life's blueprint. Smile!"
