Illinois ladies facing bc

There's a reason I waited to schedule all my check-up testing until AFTER my vacation. *sigh*
I had my hip MRI this morning (following up on a benign bone tumor that they keep monitoring), and my Mammogram was afterward. I had a notgreat feeling about the mammo... and sure enough, the radiologist called me in for the results and says the sm. calcifications I've had on my last 2 mammos have increased in size, enough that he thinks, because of my history and age, that we need to be aggressive and do a mammotome biopsy. Sooo, here's me, trying my hardest not to freak out.
I talked to my b.s. and of course, he's gone on vacation next week, so I'll call Mon. morn and just have one of the radiologists do it, hopefully that day or the next. At least I work right by there.
Until then, I need to work on getting through a big family party tomorrow without talking or thinking about it. I don't want to tell my parents or kids and have them worry for what will hopefully be benign.
Laura - I'm so sorry you're having such a rough time with the LE. It's so bizarre how some people get it so bad, and some not at all. I hope you're getting some relief.
Mak - Congrats on finishing the trial! I'm sure life will be a bit easier not having to fly back and forth so much now.
Iago - I love art fairs, maybe I'll try and check some of those out. Good Shepherd Hospital used to put on a really nice Art in the Park festival every year. I haven't gone in years, but maybe this year.
Sorry I can't join you ladies for the luncheon next week. I'll be either working or getting my boob hole-punched again.

Rene just remember they are super careful with us now. Any little change they are going to check it out… and then re-check. I certainly hope its benign.0

Oh Rene.....you post is so resounding for me. I am off schedule on my mri and my mammogram as I wanted to wait until after the New Mexico trip so I could just have FUN! Damn it! Well I had fun but now I face all the stuff that I need to face. I think because I delayed it, I too am feeling not so great about it all. My onc once said that if it comes back it doesn't really matter how long you wait...treatment is the same. That is the lousy thing about cancer....it plays terrible mind games. I pray and feel you will be fine. I am set to go myself in a few weeks. There are so many reason to put it off.....to sum up....it is called being happy with life events.
With that said, may I suggest you look about that table with family, soak in the faces and the conversations and just enjoy the pure love of being with them. Soak it all in and try to breath deeply, knowing that you are now alive and can just feel in tune with them. Easier said than done.
Susan
Stay warm.

Great Saturday morning today. We had a really nice little rainstorm with sound and light effects and as a result.....it is cooler outside than inside. I'm thrilled. It is also nice as the Komen Race for the Cure is taking place in St. Louis today......it will be nice for them.
I'm so glad it's the week-end. No special reason except that I always feel a bit more relaxed about my work.....though it doesn't really make that much difference when I show up.....as long as I do. Do have to make sure I'm over to Maggie's early. She has been back in hosp. for a few days and I have to get the dogs as early as possible.
Rene'.......I hope you can relax ( though so often it feels impossible ) and enjoy the week-end. This is sort of like counting money you haven't made yet......you will give it far more credit than it deserves, but another person said it best --- it is what it is, just totally meaning to me that nothing can or will change it.......so if you can manage a good time, by all means. No matter what happens this week-end won't come again......so enjoy. Susan is so right.....get as deeply in tune with your family and what is going on as you can ---- shift all the emotion and power to them.
I hope you all have a great week-end....and hopefully a bit cooler. Well.....I never phrase that right......heat I don't truly mind all that much. It is the draining humidity that I don't like. So....a great week-end with no humidity.
Thinking of you Laura........feel better soon.
Hugs, Jackie

I want to clarify something I said the onc said. He meant, I think, that if the cancer spreads, it did n't matter so much if it was weeks or months as the treatment was the same.
We are getting ready for Father's Day which we will spend with Bill's family. Bill is our dear friend who died. Have any of you heard of a Farm Dinner? Being the suburbanites we are, we are having a Farm Dinner. Long table , backyard (weather permitting) and farm produce from the farmer's market. Anyone near Wheaton? They have a great French Market on June 18 at the railroad station. We will get our food then (they even sell meat). It makes me feel like a farmer without all the work!
Have a fun weekend.

Hi All,
I'm trying to catch up with what's been happening.
Sorry to be missing in action for so long- went on a mini vacation to North Carolina, which was wonderful except that I tangled with black ants (not fire ants) when doing some landscaping and had very bad reaction. Was really worried about the swelling and itching in my LE arm and trunk, but a lot of babying and massage brought everything down.
However.....3 days ago I developed severe burning pain in my other side ribs, wrapping around to my back. Today, even more pain, swelling and small little blisters popping up... so off I rush to my doctor's urgent care clinic. Yep, it looks like shingles. (*waving at Lago*) I'm starting anti-viral, steroids, and viocodain for the pain if bad enough. (yeah, it's bad enough..) The black ant reaction probably triggered the shingles. Keep your fingers crossed that the meds all work.
And I JUST saw my doc this week on Tuesday and we talked about the vaccine- I wanted to hold off until I talked to my onc because of everything people posted here. My doctor said that shingles is popping up more and more, which is why they now recommend the vaccine for over 50s. He also said he thought that one year after chemo would be enough time to wait, but agreed that I should talk to my onc. And, I doubt if the vaccine would have made a difference- the pain started the next day.
I won't be able to meet with Nana for lunch, hope everyone has a great time. Irene, sending you positive vibes that everything is benign. Same to everyone undergoing testing and treatment. I hope there is another lunch or dinner soon (maybe at Sweet Tomatoes?) that I can attend. I'm so bummed that I can't meet next week...
Hugs to all.

Hi everyone,
Jan - Sorry to hear about the ants, and the shingles. Hoping the meds work quickly for you.
Laura-Is your LE better? Been thinking about you and hope you're feeling better.
BustersMom - Hi and how is Buster doing by the way?
We are enjoying our pontoon boat. It is so nice and relaxing (well, not mid day on weekends on the Chain but we live close enough that we can go on the water in the morning, get off when it's crowded and go back out later). Got tired of putting things off to a "better" time - decided to just do it and I'm glad we did. Thanks Rita for the nudge! Our dogs love the boat too.
Hoping those going through tx have a good week and hugs to you all.

Jan I'm so sorry you have to deal with this. Just to warn you once you stop spreading and the bilsters start to dry up… the pain will get worse. Sounds like you have a case like mine. I hope the antivirals work for you. I was on them for 2 weeks (typically just one) and personally I feel they didn't do much. Activity can make the pain worse. I did read somewhere that a woman dried up the blisters with alcohol. I'm not recommending it but you might run it past your doctor. It will take a while for the reddness to dissappear completely. I still have some (brake out started April 23rd).
I also heard you should stay away from eating nuts and sugar. I did but again nothing seemed to work. I just had to let it take its course. Hope you have better luck.

Hope everyone is doing well. It has been a busy week/weekend ...trying to get everything in place to be gone for a few days and great niece got married...so today I have to get packed etc....
We will be heading to Lombard Monday morning....I'm excited to go...but I'm such a worrier ...Leaving my dog and care of inground pool and house to a couple college girls has me a little nervous..
See some of you soon. Nana Marsha

So much going on... hope everyone is making the most of this weekend. Chilly is good for my arm...it has helped bring the swelling down and lessen the pain.
I really appreciate your concern and thoughtful posts and cards. It really has helped.
Irene - Everything is crossed for you. I am so sorry you have to deal with it all. Damn! Hugs to you...hang in there...you know we're all here for you.
JulieC - How are you doing?
Jan - OH NO! Shingles! What a pain in the you know what! I hope it's mild and clears up soon. Sorry!
Mich - So glad you checked in! And nice to "hear" you're enjoying your boat.

Alot of things going on in addition to my arm...SIGH...one day at a time.
EVERYONE - Hugs!

Good to hear from Laura and Mich! DH and I had fun in Wisconsin today. I always come home feeling great after being in the country.
I need to get a one-liner on who is joining Nana and me on Tuesday. I actually have not been able to talk to many of you as many of you are the "new" people and I have been cancer free for a "number" of years. Yeah! We will alll make it!

JanClare... so sorry about the Shingles. Darn it! I'm going to see if I can track down my ONC tomorrow when I stop by the office for a blood draw and see what he has to say about the Shingles vaccine.
I am unable to join you on Tuesday, but hope we have another gathering soon.

Thank you for all the good thoughts. It's nice to be able to share this stuff with a group of ladies who understand how deep the concern is with stuff like this. I'm crossing my fingers that they can do the biopsy tomorrow for me. I may have to use a little pull if necessary.
Laura - Glad to hear the LE is feeling better.
Jan - Okay, first lago then you with the shingles? I guess I'll put it on the list of things to ask my Onc about too. Feel better.
I can't believe this was only 2 weeks ago. I miss my ship...

Laura....hope you are getting better and better with your LE. Jan Clare, I hope you too are making some progress with those darn shingles. Now I'm wondering......is it just a co-incidence that they come......meaning, would you have gotten them anyway....at this time in your life. That is probably a great who knows question and nothing else.
Still coolish here -- meaning it is nice and warm, but we do not need the air conditioner which is great. That is my kind of day.
Nana.....maybe you should "pack" less and buy a little more when you get where you are going. I hope you all have a really great time.
See you all later.
Hugs, Jackie

Nana, Have fun in the city and enjoy your lunch with the gals! I wish I could have joined you!
JanClare....ouch! I'm so sorry that you have to deal with the shingles now. What a bummer! I hope you have a mild case and they are soon gone.
Michele...so glad you got the boat and are enjoying the serenity of cruising the waters. We have only been out on ours a few times this summer but we've caught some catfish and had a wonderful meal of fresh fish last week. We found that we even liked going out after Dave got home from work. It is so relaxing. There's just something special about being out on the water. Enjoy it!
Laura, I hope the LE is doing better. Hang in there! Remember that we Illinois gals are tough!
BJ...I imagine you are adapting just fine to summer vacation, sunshine, and "girl fun." Enjoy these days and make the most of them. :-)
Rene...darn it all! I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers, hoping that the enlarged calcifications are nothing significant. It's always a good thing to get them checked out, and all of our doctors are very careful about discovering the precise cause of any changes in our bodies now. Although it frightens us and causes lots of anxiety, we really wouldn't want them to be any other way. Hang in there, gal and keep us informed. Hugs!
Susan, did you have to change your insurance plan? I did. I had Humana and they were phased out. What a mess! I have to get my choice in and postmarked by this Friday. I selected HealthLink, for whom my oncologist and surgeon are Tier I providers. However, my primary care physician is not a main provider so I've been on the phone this morning trying to find a new primary care "doc" who is taking new patients in this area. Hopefully I will get everything done and in the mail within the next few days.
Well, I have a lunch meeting with the new bowling president in an hour and I'd better get moving. There are several things that we do during the summer to get ready for the fall bowling season.
I hope everyone is enjoying this lovely day!

Rita, I find the whole health insurance scary! We are okay as they retained the BC/BS HMO and that is what we are on. Living in a big city, we still have great options on doctors, yet I read and reread all that information four or five times to be sure I got it right. Then Paul and read and reread it again. I got my last reminder today by email. The thought of changing doctors is just so troubling for me, but it looks like we are okay THIS TIME AROUND. Thanks for bringing it up as it has been a worry these past few days. Think of all the OLD (I do not put us in that category) teachers who have trouble keeping up with changes and emails. I hope no one gets hurt, but of course some will fall through the cracks.

zap- I'll be there tomorrow and so will Onward. See you then.

Zap I know that Rush accepts Blue Cross & Blue Shitshield but I don't think they accept their HMO. I know you don't go to Rush but I thought that was interesting. I think that changed just this year… unless they finally came to some agreement.
As you can tell I am not happy with Blue Cross & Blue Shitshield. They reject everything. I've had to have my doctors recode just about everything. This company doesn't want to part with their money.
Can't wait to see everyone tomorrow! Hope I don't get lost. Who's cell should I call if I do?
Hi Adey

Hi back! Shitshield!

Hi everybody. I have been without an internet connection for several days and finally back on-line today. Count me in for lunch, Zap. Lago, I am not from the Downers Grove/Lombard area so if you get lost I would be useless to help you!
Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.

Lago -- you can call me if you like. I work and live in the area. If anyone needs my cell, just PM me.

Thanks Lisa. Got it. I do highly recommend you remove your cell # from the thread. It's too public.
