I have a rebounder! Fun stuff. I also have a DH that "looks" responsible and could pull it off. (c: Um... old man test every six months? Does he travel a lot or is he, eh hem, a pilot?!
I lost quite a few branches this morning too. I'm cool...

Yes, International 777 captain and flies the long hauls to Asia. He turned 60 almost a year ago, and FAA makes the 60+ guys prove themselves every 6 months. He calls it the "old man" check ride. Well, if the shoe fits...... Pretty soon, there are bound to be some "old lady" check rides too!

I'd fly with him anytime. It would be good to know someone in the cock pit (heh...heh...cock pit)!

Zap...how's DD's tree? And more important...how's your mulch????
0 -
BIG IRONIC THING! The tree damage in GlenEllyn was unbelievable! I honestly think they had a microburst. The big tree fell right over the play area and destroyed all the equipment! The mulch, Wendy, looked great when the landscapers finally pulled heavy debris away. I know I should be very sad, but this was so amazing to see that I am simply grateful the house was spared and hopefully no one in GlenEllyn was hurt. The neighborhood looked like a war zone and all day the saws were going. Her neighbor came over and he said he could help us find a tree company to start cleaning up and he did, as we do not know the area well. He remembered seeing us this past weekend when we were "mulching" but was nice enough not show pity on us! Only half of the tree work got completed today but we feel relieved we got started on it. Again, we are not sad....just grateful as we realize how powerful these storms are. They also do not have power. We will go back tomorrow. Laura, remember when we had lunch and we were talking about that song....."I Get Knocked Down, I get up Again?" It is a great song and could become my mantra when times get tough. Hope all are feeling safe from storms and other scary events.
Susan
Adey, it was actually Navy who suggested that book. I read it as well and found it most helpful.

Oh Susan! I am so sorry! But the house is ok! No one hurt! Wow!
0 -
Susan, thank goodness the house is ok and more importantly no one was hurt!!!! We had an official microburst on our street a couple years ago and it was just like you described! A war zone... Just glad no one was hurt, very scary weather!!!
Now I have "tubthumping" in my head....that's the song, LOL0 -
Wow Susan that is intense. Glad everyone is OK.
Madismommy I have the CD. It is loaded on my ipod. Mad this linky is for you
linky for those of you who aren't familiar with tubthumpingI just received a Get Well card from Rush OR team wishing me a speedy recovery.

Joan your husband has a very mischievous smile. I bet he plays tricks on you

Just catching up after one of the most difficult days ever. Took gab for 8 am walk in at dr... Got caught in the storm the office lost power and didn't open the doors so we drove back. Finally saw the dr and she has hand foot mouth disease.. Fever and crying all day wanting to be carried.. Fell asleep with 103 fever.. I'm just crossing my fingers for recovery.. Desperately need my dh and parents...
Hey at least we didn't lose power!!! Lol0 -
Holy Moly...what a day it's been! Was weeding at church this morning at 7am...by 8 the skies turned dark...wind kicked up. I ran to my car and floored it home. OMG...branches, twigs, leaves, even a blow up swimming pool hit my car. It was the closest I've come to knowing what a tornado must be like. It was SCARY! No electricity from 8:30 this morning until 6:30 tonight. The winds were incredible. Trees are down throughout our hood-no traffic lights-sirens. LUCKILY for us...no major tree probs. But man oh man...the cleanup took us all day. No air conditioning, no phones, no water (our water well is electric).
But yes...thank goodness we're okay.
AND...thank goodness everyone here is okay.
Adey/Joan/Lago - You girls are tooooooooooooo funny!
Wendrew - Thanks for reminding us of the "fort"...such a great "story".

HI TO EVERYONE - past and present posters...SWEET DREAMS! I'm exhausted...have to take a bath and hit the hay...YAWN...

Zap... so sorry to hear about the playground. Hopefully it can be rebuilt someday and look lovely once again with your MULCH. Nobody hurt... that is a blessing.
Makmak... oh dear.... I didn't know that kids got hand/foot/mouth disease. Sounds like Gabs is feeling miserable. Anything they can do for it or does it just have to take its course?
Laura.. you had quite an adventure driving in that storm. That was amazing. I went out and picked up alot of branches, etc from the yard... to darn hot and humid so will leave it for a couple days when it cools off and DH gets back home. I went for a bike ride this evening to survey what all had happened in the neighborhood. We have alot of really big old trees that got quite a trimming this morning.
Lago...I have been married to the same DH for 41 years (child bride
). Not many tricks any more... the kids and I have him figured out pretty good. Never loan him anything.... because he either loses it or breaks it. We would all rather he just lost it, so he has to buy you a new one. If he breaks it, then he tries to fix it and it will never be the same, of course. Anybody else have a DH like that or am I just lucky? Gotta love him.Hope everyone made it through the storm and can turn the lights out tonight!

So sorry to hear about the storms....they are frightening....and yes Laura. I do think it comes close to what it might be like in a tornado. It was like that for us a few weeks ago.....and we were without power for two and a half days. It was somewhat chilly then, and we went to bed by lantern light....and used flashlights to go to the bathroom ....no fun -- no fun.
Glad everyone seems safe and no major harm to homes etc.
Lago....loved your linkys this time.
Hugs, Jackie

Ha ha Lago, I thoroughly enjoyed my musical montage....AND, I knew every song (and some of the dances).... Thanks for the laugh this evening....it made my headache go away for a few minutes!
WOW, it sounds like there was a bunch of crazy weather...I guess I'll consider myself lucky we only lost power for 10 minutes and our satellite tv for about 20. They said on the news it could be the "worst power outage in comed history" probably how I kept my power, Geneva generates their own!! :0). Just glad we are all okay!!!! The only casualty is susan's grandkid's play equipment and that can be replaced!!!!
MamMak, sorry to hear about Gabs, I know a couple other families that are going through this hand and foot mouth also.....poor girl!! ((( hugs))) to her for a good night's sleep!!!
Laura, at least it was a plastic pool? And not filled with kids? Or a flying cow or a witch on a broom?
Is it possible to classify a headache as stress, lack of sleep, migraine and sinus a
ll in one? Thats what I have....in different turns....
I hope my Sleepy Time tea works a little better tonight again....I think I'll shoot for two cups!!!!
I'm attempting work again tomorrow,,,,,probably 3-4 hours....we'll see what I can handle....0 -
Sleepy Time tea is my new friend..... Adjoined by my other pal Ambien CR!!! I'm going for a new record tonight.....sleeping almost straight up, six pillows behind me, one under my butt....shooting for a solid 6 hrs straight...... Can I do it?
0 -
Morning! 65 on the deck but humid! Nice and clear tho with no storms forecast. Wow...bad stuff yesterday. We did lose power for close to 7 hours but from what I hear that wasnt too bad.
Madismommy...glad the tea is working!
With respect to flying with a sleeve/gauntlet without LE...I have heard too many stories about LE popping up after a flight, even short ones. Remember...LE can pop up anytime, for a hundred reasons. Why not be proactive? I have only flown to FL a few times since surgery but I wouldn't fly without them. Leaving for a very long flight tomorrow and will certainly have them on. Like cancer, I would rather do everything I can to prevent it than try and treat it for the rest of my life. But that's me, not any of you! Also plan on wearing a fitted tank under my shirt rather than a bra because I do tend to swell just a tiny bit if I overdo...probably be more comfortable anyway.
Mak...oh, poor Gabs! And poor you! You can't seem to catch a break with Day Care or as I refer to that place and DH's school ....The Germ Factory! The DayCare that my nephew used....it was always something. Just kids being kids...not enough hand sanitizer on the planet! Not that that would prevent all the germs from spreading....hope Gabs is feeling better today.
Off to shower...long day today with lots of little things to do before tomorrow. Hope you are all doing well...waving at you WendyTY!!!!0 -
Wait, where are you going and how the heck am I going to get the weather report while you're gone? :0)

Another young mom in my community is having a bilateral mastectomy today so if everyone could say a little prayer?!? And maybe a shout out for this madness to please stop!!!!!

I would love for it to be 65 outside.....hmmm, we are still under the heat wave warnings and will be for a few more days. Well, we are just having more of the un-expected strange "changing" weather patterns that we have had for a couple of yrs. now. Can't afford to see out to look for a better climate so......best wait for it to get better here.
I probably ( not and then ) could make use of my sleeve a little more but based on Wendy and backed up totally by The Women's Breast Center and my Avon patient navigator, I originally did get a sleeve for flying. I did read ( I think somewhere on the boards here ) about a lady who flew a little over a hundred times with nary a problem.....and then whamo. So.....you don't know if and you don't know when.....easier to just do it every time. In hindsight....I bet that lady wishes she had used a sleeve always. Then....again......maybe she would have been un-affected forever. Just something esle no one really knows yet!!!!! I'd go for the sleeve.
At any rate....stay cool anyway you can. I think we should all take boat rides from Bj since we can't go with Wendy.
Laura.....
Be checking in later....cause I'm not going to be doing much outside....thats for sure.
Hugs, Jackie

Just got back from a follow-up appointment with my rad ONC. Wasn't sure what to expect after having finished rads last November, but all was well..... except that I complained a bit about my LE and, just my luck the LE specialist from the PT clinic, happened to be right there in the hallway. So he called her in to do an evaluation. One thing led to another... now I have to go for one week LE therapy with wrappings and manual drainage. So, while the rad ONC was very pleased with my current health and I don't have to return for 9 months (darn, he's so darn cute that I wouldn't mind seeing him every day
), the LE therapist has decided to have a little fun with me. The two of us cannot get our schedules meshed until mid-August though. She said that it is not a big emergency and to go ahead and do everything and anything I normally do in the meantime. Her biggest recommendation..... exercise! I love that! So, next week, I have a six month follow-up with my BS along with a dermatologist to check out a rash on my legs that won't go away. I think that I have too many doctors!

Hey pretty ladies! Just thought I'd pop on and say hi. It's been a rocky road over the past week. I'm starting to get my mojo back. Thank you for the cards and posts to my caringbridge site. I can always count on you for a smile! Just found out my insurance is covering my new treatment at 100%. One less stress.
0 -
Joan I hear you about all the doctors. I'm so looking forward to things winding down. Only 3 more Herceptins!!! I'm officially once a year with my onc now (granted next visit is in 6 months after BS with NP). and after my visit with my BS in the fall I believe I will be on a 1 year with him too.
I am making sure I'm doing my praying to Allah, Jesus impersonation and angel flapping exercises for range of motion. I don't want to be back in PT again. 3 times is enough for me.

^praying to Allah Jesus impersonation & Angel flapping ^
Waving to WendyTY Love hearing good insurance news.

Raining cats and dogs ( don't tell mine even if its none of them ) and will bring the temp down after seeing 103 register on my car thermometer. I don't think those are the most accurate....but not way off either. Sure is a lot of water out there. Hoping we keep our power. Glad I got something to Wendy already just in case.
Long day, but I'll be able to relax for now. Hope we are not roasting any more for awhile.....no humidity please with all that water outside...
Take care all.....I'll see ya in the morning. Joan....glad you are going to get a handle on your LE. Too bad the Le Sp. and Onc couldn't do each others jobs.......wishful thinking for you.
Hugs, Jackie

Woke up alive this a.m. That means it is going to be a great day. May rain again this afternoon but I'll be ok with that. I'm now bargaining with the weather gods. Rain is ok if we don't have the humidity. Also, I was worried at the temps we were having that we would get crispy way too early. For some reason it seems summer is being a little fast ( my age showing here ) but hope I'm wrong.
Hope you are all going to have a wonderful day......and no weather difficulties.
Hugs to all,
Jackie

Hi Ladies. This is a public service alert.
Got our power back yesterday after 3 days. Which makes a full week without power this month. Anyway one of my neighbors used a gas powered generator and woke up one morning with everyone complaining of headeaches and nauseau. Yep it was Carbon Dioxide and although the have a detector it was plugged in to an outlet that was not live. So if you are using a generator during this summer, please check your fire and carbon dioxide detectors.
Love ya, Caryn

Caryn......so glad for your neighbors that they could ALL complain of the headaches and nausea. This I think is not something ( outlet not live ) that I might have thought about so it is a wonderful alert. My.....sounds awful that you are without power so often. During our major storm.....we were only out 2 and 1/2 days which seemed horrible to me. In fairness though....I think due to our living in such a wooded area etc. that our lines generally are "looked after" on a regular basis. Hope these power outages are not a regular thing where you are.
Thinking of all of you.
Hugs, Jackie
( while I wonder if it was something I said ).

Hi ladies,
I haven't posted in a few days; and I am trying to catch up with everyone. My BS called yesterday to tell me the final path report is showing a micro metastasis in the lymph node. Not large enough to go back to surgery for an axillary dissection, but this does mean that I will have to have chemo. This has thrown me for a loop because my first lab report (while I was on the OR table) said my nodes were clean.
I've spent the day letting my kids know; and especially my mom, an 18 year BC survivor herself!
I have a question for any of the chemo ladies: The usual cocktail that is given for BC, does it always cause hair loss? I'm wondering if I should get moving on a wig. I am going to need one for DD wedding in October. If it wasn't for that, I would probably head scarf or baseball cap it.
Just reading through everyone's daily experiences makes me know that you will have the best advice. I am not scheduled to see my onc until 7/27. My port goes in 7/29.
On a weather related note, isn't it gorgeous out today? I plan on taking a walk after dinner.

I know Smerf mentioned that generators are dangerous! Good to know. We do not have one.
Mary, I had Taxotere and Paxol (I feel I have misspelled the latter). I was guaranteed I would lose my hair and I did. I lost my hair exactly 14 days after my first infusion. I went wig-hunting right away (before chemo) so I had it all together for the BIG SHED so I was able to pick up the wig I had ordered when the shedding began. They shaved my head (Jerome Kraus in Skokie). For whatever reason I got a pixie kind of cut before the shed but I do not think you need to do that. I think it was my way of dealing with hair loss. My wig was fabulous, according to everyone. I would have preferred my own hair, but that is okay. The true test was a wedding. I was still on chemo, felt poorly, but showed up for the wedding. The girls here know the rest. My SIL kissed me and told me I looked great. It was probably the kindest words he has every spoken in his life. I believed him! I am glad, Mary, you are coming here. The wedding will be magnificent and making plans will help you move forward so you are at your best. I too had some post operative scary news as I have vascular invasion and something with nerve involvement. The nodes were clean but then there was that "invasion" and "involvement" that is less than lovely and warranted chemo. I have no regrets that I took chemo. I wish you well.
Met with my writing group today. We are quite diverse and spending a day with them I think must be like something between group therapy, AA and an appearance on Seinfeld . All is good. These people are quite wonderful. I so love this experience that I turned down a long term teaching replacement job in the Fall so I can devote myself to writing. That is big for me. I think I finally get retirement after all.
I hope all are feeling okay. WendyTY, you are on my mind every day and often in the midSteinfelddle of the night. I am the insomniac with a purpose. I pray then.
DH and I are going to Pike Lake in Wisconsin this weekend. A friend of ours is hosting a lake get-together for all the guys who stood up at his wedding like 40 years ago and their wives (if they have them). Isn't that something? It is being held at his "lodge" on the lake. I was just dating the DH at the time. I really barely know some.......it was a long time ago. Like everything else in life, it will be an adventure.
Susan
