Joan, I hate hearing things like that.. One of the girls I met on these boards was pregnant and had to go through chemo. Her son is fine..
Miss Gab now has a GI virus.. got a call at 9 am to get her from daycare.. so no rest this week for me..I really really need a full week when that child is healthy! She needs to go to daycare and have fun!! My parents came back last night so today they were greeted with a very "poopy" welcome!!
Otherwise, just anxiously awaiting next week and what it will mean for me going forward.. SOOO hoping that that lymph node shrank and that I can breath for the next three months.. UGH...

It is about what your missing, Wendy.
Our heat index says 112 to 115 today. Unbelievable.

Ugh...I have to go out in this yuck this morning, I'm scheduled for a fill with my PS this morning.....I'm going to ask for the minimum again today because my chest has been so tight lately. I'm also going to beg him to pull this drain (even though he didnt put it in) that's putting out less than 10 cc's in a full day!!!! Wish me luck. :0)

OH I have been so bad.. not being back here!!!I know most of you know, we have arrived and moved to Tucson!!!Could not keep up with everything and know you all are in my heart and prayers all the time!!! THRILLED to be here in AZ and was the best move for us as everything has fallen into place, house is wonderful, surrounded by 3 mountain ranges and healing is felt everyday on all levels!!! To think the jounrey with BC as brought us here is just overwhelming and so grateful!
Sorry about the heat everyone is having. We have no humidity and honestly, feel more energetic here than i had been in the midwest and not sure if it is because i am out and not feeling sluggish from the mugginess or just happy to be in pure sun . IT does get hot and we go poolside every afternoon and work around it.
Be well and will stay better in touch. here...sigh!Mak.. good thoughts goin and for the shrinkage the lymph node!!!!
Love and Hugs,
Donna

Madismommy..Remember it well and this draining part is goin to get better and know today will be ok as it is a process and you just may be able to get that drain out!BUIT. if the DR thinks it is not time, you do not want the fluid to build up inside and that is something that took time for me.Tightness and all .. a pain but it will not be forever.!!!Let us know what happened!0
-
Hi Donna!
Makmak I too hope you have shrinkage.
Madismommy really hope you get those drains out. You will feel so much better.
I may be nuts but I'm going to head out for that walk before it gets too hot. Saw PS yesterday. I'm off restrictions except no push ups or heavy weights. Ha I never could do a push ups before BC and my large weights are 10lbs. I do need to wear a sports bra when exercising. Guess that's what I'll shop for today. Granted it does sound like the boobie prizes still have lots of changing to do so no "real" bras yet.

Great news Joan! That young girl...OMG! I just hate this disease!
Wendrew - Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeenjoy! But next time, don't forget to pack the laundry fairy! lol
-------------------------------
Well...today marks 6 years from the date of my HORRID day of diagnosis. Those three words, YOU HAVE CANCER...still make me cringe. But fortunately...I cringe less frequently than in the past.

Madismommy -
mak - I'VE GOT YOUR BACK COVERED! ; )
Donna - HUGS...I already miss you. But so happy you're lovin' your new home, mountains, etc.

Hi to EVERYONE!

Hi Laura! And everyone!
0 -
Morning! Your weather sounds so bad! And believe it or not..I had to buy a hoodie to wear at night here...I have never been chilly in Hawaii. Strange weather...
Mak...so sorry about Gab. That poor kid! Wishing you shrinkage!
Lago..I remember years ago I could do 10 pushups! Now...no. Not a one!
Laura...the hotel does have valet service so for fun we totaled up our two loads which I did for $8.50...Outrigger Laundry would have been $346.!!! And extra for folding! And extra for any ironing!!! Machines are right by the beach/pool and outside so it's actually quite pretty!
Jackie...wow! That's quite a heat index! How's your humidity down there?
Susan...must be very hard to have your work torn to shreds! Did you ever think about writing a book about our IL group and the bc journey? Lots of material. And some very funny stuff. I was thinking about a title..." How to Survive the Breast Cancer Journey With a Dead Rat on Your Head"....catchy title!!! Lol
Mad....drain out?
Well...time to shower. We have a car for today and are heading out to Kailua Beach, and then??? Hope you all have a wonderful Thursday.
Waving at you, Donna! I envy your retirement and move....hope we can do the same!
HI LITTLE WENDY!!!! Waving at you ....0 -
Zap - DH and DS are headed to Sweden on Tuesday for the National Boy Scouts Jamboree. It is low 70's there! No one will hear one complaint about the heat from me. This is way better than winter!
Congrats on 6 years Laura!
Very heartbreaking on the young pregnant gal. We need a cure!
Off to the lake tonight! Off to Disney next Sat!

Wendyk....can I even tell you how jealous I am of you? I hope you are having a wonderful time though, it sounds like it!!!! I have been to Hawaii once, when I was 17. We went to Maui and Oahu ...it was beautiful except I was a bratty teenager and didn't appreciate all it's beauty! Someday I'll go back. (maybe next year inside your suitcase? Lol)
Lago....I was starting to worry about you, you haven't popped in for a few days.....glad all is good. And please take a big bottle of water with on your walk.
Laura... 6 years out is a wonderful thing....if there is a "wonderful" thing with BC? I suppose having it waaaaaay in the rear view mirror would be it!!
Mak....I hope Gab feels better very soon, poor little girl!!! Plus I'm sure you could use a little break too, hang in there!!!
Donna, Hi! Im thinking you were heading west when I joined this thread??? My husband would LOVE LOVE LOVE to move to Tucson ....he'd pack right now if I said it was fine.
Jackie, 115 heat index?? UGH....I don't think ours is quite that bad, maybe 100-105.... I was out earlier and now I'm home and have no intention of leaving again!!!
So....just got back about an hour ago from my PS.....my drain is GONE!!!!! *happy dance*. But, the site was very infected.....
I guess that explains the major pain I've had the past 2 days? It looked fine according to my BS office on Monday .....and yesterday morning I changed the gauze and didn't see anything weird....so, maybe my overdoing it on Tuesday caught up to me and the infection took over in the last 24 hrs??? At any rate, it's gone now....and he gave me an antibiotic. And I had a 50cc fill on both sides and so far it doesn't feel too bad. And dang am I happy with the way my new foobie chest is coming along!!!
I told my PS "I really don't miss my breasts. I've made peace with this "new me" and his response "I'm going to accept that as my best compliment of the week". It really is strange how I look in the mirror and seeing big scars instead of nipples doesn't upset me at all???? And I really liked my nipples before?
Ok...enough about nipples.....everyone have a wonderful day!!!! STAY COOL!!!!!!0 -
Edit to add this is for Connie.....
Sweden for boy scouts? WOW!!!
Are you staying on Disney property? Disney is my and my DH's favorite place in the world..... Even despite that's where I was when I was diagnosed..... Have a GREAT time!!!0 -
Congrats Laura on year #6!!!! SUPER!!! That really rocks! Now if you can just get some relief with that dang LE, you'll be foot loose and fancy free!
Wendy, I am so glad that you're enjoying your vacation. It certainly does look like paradise to me! I've never been there so I'm enjoying the scenery in your pictures. Enjoy, enjoy!
Connie, what a wonderful experience for your son and hubby! My son is an eagle scout and he went on many memorable trips with the scouts, but NEVER got to do anything as exciting as Sweden. The memories they will share from this trip will be precious. Then Disney! Wow! I love the way you do so many neat things with your kids! Have lots of fun! (and like you......I never complain about the heat! I hate winter!)
I played 18 holes of golf this morning and ran some errands. Now I'm going to tackle writing some questions this afternoon to make a little "mad money." My second grandson comes on Saturday and next week will be all his!
Hugs to all of you.
Rita

Congrats Laura on the six years. I am about a year behind you.
Wendy, I write for young adult (13-19 or so). Actually I am overstating the criticism as it was in fact very good suggestions. Being criticized on your manuscript, tho, is much like being criticized on your baby (if you work really hard it will one day look good).
I just took a walk. It is so hot! Yes, Connie, it is low 70s in Sweden. My cousin and her manfriend must be dying of this heat. Susan

Susan, I have been given much constructive criticism when I was in the question-writing business. It was very hard to have others criticize things that I thought were good. I was smart enough, like you, to consider their suggestions and they did work well. I always joked with the other coaches, telling them that they taught me how to write questions that worked for their matches. Some of them are still good friends. They trained me well and it worked great for both sides. They got the type of questions that they wanted and I got more sales! It's funny. I started a book once too for middle-school and junior high students. I think I finallly tossed it when I moved to Bloomington. I just couldn't get it to all come together, so I admire you for your persistence. It sure isn't an easy task.
Today is another relaxing type of day. I have to take the kitten into the vet for her second set of shots and then have nothing special that needs to be done until evening, when we're meeting the golf group for dinner. Hmmm..........what should I do first?
Keep cool gals! I'll be back later.

I live to experience something new each day -
to learn something new,
meet a new friend,
bring joy into someone's life,
feel the wind newly on my skin,
touch a new fear, a new anger,
and with focused intent and good fortune,
find an ample measure of my own joy.

Donna I think it's around 2.5 miles. I walk from my place on Fullerton all the way south through the park/zoo till I reach Lasalle. Circle back then walk 1/2 way around the lagoon by the nature museum cross over the Diversey harbor then up Diversey back through the park and finish walking around the other 1/2 of the lagoon. If it's not hot it takes about 50 minutes. On hot days it's about an hour. Yesterday I was even slower and cut out the Diversey Harbor part. Just too hot.
And I have something like this on a belt that hangs over my butt. I fill the water bottle with ice so it actually stays cold too.
MadMom I'm fine. Just trying to get stuff done and apply for jobs.

Laura 6 years!!! Whoo Hoo!!!

Well, Gab was kind enough to share her virus with Mommy and Daddy.. rough night we had... I feel so guilty but I sent her to Daycare today so we can recover.. on this lovely rainy day.. Just crossing my fingers they keep her there.. She gets quite bored at home...
Was supposed to meet up with a fellow survivor that I got matched up with.. She is here to visit the Block Center from Cincinnati.. but I don't think I can make it to Skokie..
Otherwise, waving Hi to everyone, hoping to see many next Friday.. pending shrinkage on my end!!

hi makmak. i live near skokie. do you come this way often?
0 -
Thanks, Rita. That helped a great deal. I pouted for about 24 hours but I am good to continue. I actually love this small group, strange bunch that we are!
Has anyone gone to the Cancer Wellness Place in Northbrook? I went yesterday to a book discussion and one theme was "living in the moment".........an idea I have always wondered about....like how do you even do that? It was quite nice and the word "cancer" never even came up. Nor did I even know what cancer each participant was dealing with, nor they know mine. It was a good place and they offer yoga, medication, labyrinth walks, etc. and no cost. I am sure I will go back. I was there before for a nutrition lecture.
Oh mak........rough summer. I am worried that my daughter will have all this next year as my grandchild starts pre-school I guess germs are inevitable!
Lago, when you described your walk I could just picture ever turn! Have you ever been to North Pond Restaurant that is deep in the park? DH and I have gone to Theater on the Lake (the old pavilion) and we take that walk you describe between dinner and the theater.
0 -
Yes my husband and I went to North Pond years ago. The atmosphere is lovely but unfortunately the food wasn't prepared properly when we went so we haven't been back. (Lots of overcooking). It's at North pond that I cut north to Diversy Harbor.
So now you can understand why I prefer to walk outside when it's nice enough then go to the gym. I've seen turtles and even a this bird that looked like an owl but the legs were about 3' long! I have no idea what is was but it was standing on an old branch by the lagoon. Any one know?

Morning! I hear it's cooler and it rained at home so am happy for you all. Its another day of sun here. Spent yesterday morning at Kailua Beach, then drove across the mountains to the Ihilani Resort at Ko Olina, then went to Haleiwa for dinner, then back to Waikiki and had a cosmo which I never drink...and I was asleep by 8! Didn't wake up til almost 7! What's in those drinks, BJ???? Wow! Think I'll stick with club soda and lime!!!! I have lots of pics but cant figure out how to post here on an iPhone..there's some on FB tho...
Mak...hope you and DH recover quickly! Wishing for shrinkage...
Madismommy...we used to come here every year, a lot of trips as chaperones when DH was a Dean in a high school. We haven't been back for 6 years and truthfully I'm not sure if we will be back except maybe to see the Big Island. It's just too darn expensive here and the flight is soooo long! But it is so beautiful here...wish we could afford retirement here but FL won't be too bad!
Lago...your walks sound amazing! Only thing I see on my walks back home are houses and more houses! Did you find out about that bird?
Laura...yay for 6 years! Now shoot for 60!!!
Hmmm...9:15 am here...I'm hungry...again! Trying to be good but not succeeding! Oh well...hope you all have an amazing Friday! Take care...0 -
On vacation in Door County....... For now anyway cancer feels worlds away!
I just did a zip line tour......pretty surprised I went thru with it, I am not the adventurous type, but it was really fun!0 -
Congrats on being a Six year survior Laura. I am coming upon my one year of mastectomy, actually, it will be when we are together. It's the 29th!
Mak Mak, you are in my prayers every night before I go to bed.
Joan, congrats to you and you will get a big hug next friday.
Stay cool. Love Onward

Congratulations Laura. You give us hope.

Happy Saturday everyone!!! Hope you are all staying cool and the storms yesterday and over night didn't cause anyone any hassles!!!!
Today is my daughter's "kid" birthday party, nothing like 12 screaming 8 year old girls to complete my day!!! Bring on the Advil! :0)
My drain site is feeling SO much better after a couple days of antibiotic....and my AND arm seems to have gained a little ROM. Except I made the mistake of going to Target for a few things alone yesterday and lifted the back gate on my SUV.....not my brightest move. That hurt getting it closed. :0(
Have a great day everybody!!!! Mak I hope your family is starting to feel better!0 -
Madismommy do not overdue with 19 nodes removed. You need to gradually get stronger before you pick up heavy things. Check out this link on risk reduction for LE.linky
My walk through the park this morning was wonderful. The rain washes all the geese crap off the path. Everything was so green. I also love it when it's cloudy because the sun gets hot. Lots of huge puddles that the ducks were actually swimming in!
This afternoon I ate at this place right across from Garfield Park called Inspiration Cafe. They have one in Uptown but this location just opened. It's all non profit. The program trains the people that work there. They also don't keep the tips.
Tip money is given to local families in need as vouchers so they can also eat there. Really a wonderful program. And the food is good and inexpensive. My husband said his eggs Benedict was on par with Uncommon Ground but at least 1/3 the price and no 30 minute wait to be seated. This location just opened up. Normally I don't promote like this but it's such a great program. We found out about it last Tuesday. The wife of a friend of my husband's is the general manager.
