Busy, busy weekend here, but had to check-in and see what is happening.  We got over 7 inches of rain last night and another 2 inches the night before.  The draught has ended!  My DH and I just finished picking up the yard of all the tree litter from the storms and floods.  So glad to retreat to the A/C.  Too humid out there! The rainy morning forced me over to the healthclub for a good workout instead of my usual cycling trip.  Oh well, I got in a good swim for a change too but I did miss my morning trip around the lake.

We have our annual neighborhood beach picnic this evening and now the sky has turned dark and looks like more rain.  Yikes!  Tomorrow night we are meeting some friends for a local outdoor concert.

Congrats to Laura on the 6 year mark.  And makmak.... I sure hope the family is having a good weekend recuperating.  Geesh!  Always something...... I remember my granddaughter going through one cold after another when she was in daycare, now she seems to be over that.

Lauren... we go to a restuarant like that when we visit our son and wife in Charlotte, NC.  It is right downtown across the street from the Marriott.  I think that it is called The King's Kitchen.  Food is always good and very reasonably priced. Most of the cooks and wait staff are working to learn a skill.  They make sure that you know how much they appreciate your being there to support that program.

Madismommy... have fun at the birthday party!  I can almost hear those girls screaming from here.  I don't remember being much of a screamer as a little girl, but my 7-year old granddaughter can blast you out of the house with her screams.  Oh, well.... it may come in handy some day!

Hi to everyone and happy weekend to all.

Lago, I copied that information about the restaurant  for my Lakeview dd as i just know she would like to try it, as would I. Perhaps this Thursday she and I will go.

We had fun with the swedish people.  They were upset about what happened in Oslo, obviously.  Connieie, they knew all about that Boy Scout event.

    Have a great Sunday.

Please note this restaurant is in a rough hood. This is across the street from Garfield Park. There are a few available parking spots for customers. Just wanted to let you know just in case you weren't aware.

Lago...thanks for the LE link, me and DH were studying up on it together....mainly I read it all to him b/c he didn't believe me that it is a serious issue that could arise after my AND. Now he believes me. And I didn't lift anything more than my Canon today! :) my daughter chose a gymnastics "open gym" place for her party so all I did was watch the 12 little girls running around having fun. And than my mom, my aunt and the hubby handled cake, ice cream, etc duty! YAY for help!

My arm's been really bugging me soon, the infected drain site in particular. Tonight it was still oozing some. (sorry for TMI)

Did anyone have any problems with the crazy rain??? It must have missed us for the heaviest rainfall here in the western burbs because I didn't notice any major flooding? nd my house is only about 4 blocks from the Fox river???

Joan I see you have almost 7 inches???? Maybe I just slept thru it all? LOL....that's some good "sleepy time" tea if so?? Which I'm drinking now but it tastes funny? Weird....

    Attitude

I woke up early today, excited over all I get to do before the clock strikes midnight. I have responsibilities to fulfill today. I am important. My job is to choose what kind of day I am going to have.

Today I can complain because the weather is rainy or I can be thankful that the grass is getting watered for free.

Today I can feel sad that I don't have more money or I can be glad that my finances encourage me to plan my purchases wisely and guide me away from waste.

Today I can grumble about my health or I can rejoice that I am alive.

Today I can lament over all that my parents didn't give me when I was growing up or I can feel grateful that they allowed me to be born.

Today I can cry because roses have thorns or I can celebrate that thorns have roses.

Today I can mourn my lack of friends or I can excitedly embark upon a quest to discover new relationships.

Today I can whine because I have to go to work or I can shout for joy because I have a job to do.

Today I can complain because I have to go to school or eagerly open my mind and fill it with rich new tidbits of knowledge.

Today I can murmur dejectedly because I have to do housework or I can feel honored because the Lord has provided shelter for my mind, body and soul.

Today stretches ahead of me, waiting to be shaped. And here I am, the sculptor who gets to do the shaping.

What today will be like is up to me. I get to choose what kind of day I will have!

Have a GREAT DAY! Unless you have other plans.

Good morning.....sorry about the marks.  Always seems to happen when i try something new.  Someday I'll learn.

Lago---what a fantastic idea.  Wish we had something like that around here.  What a great concept.  We did have a restaurant that used students often from our Culinary program at one of our local colleges.  I hate to admit the restaurant went out of business.  Dh and I went there once and the food was so salty we couldn't eat it.  Others complained of the same thing......can't believe it was due to the students who would only follow the recipes given them.

Laura....think I missed saying yay for you.  My head is so often....well, lets not talk about that.  Big congrats to you.

I'm doing fine here since I haven't forgotten how to live in the desert, but it gets sort of uncomfortable with the humidity.  Heat is supposed to break tonight and we will go back to low 90's.  Whoopie.   I knew I should have made Wendy take me along with her.

Hope you are all going to have a great Sunday.

    Hugs, Jackie

Thanks for the heads up, Lago.  I have to admit that my eldest dd takes her kids to Garfield Conservatory as they look for "polywogs" in the little indoor ponds and I have been concerned about that what with the crispy area, but she likes the area and keeps her wits about her. I did look up the menu and it looks good.  Is the Uptown one as nice, do you think?

I hope all are dry.  I have heard of so many with flooding. Madismommy, glad you got through the party and that all had fun!  Joan...what a mess!

    Have a good day.

The Uptown one looks nice too. You might look a little less out of place in Uptown because it is more culturally diverse but they have gangs in uptown too. (But the club I work out in is actually in uptown on Montrose, I eat at several places in the Argyle/Broadway area and a few African restaurants as well in Uptown so I just might be more used to being there).

My husband drove down Washington to get there. I think I would take 290 and cut back north myself. That's the way I drove a couple years ago to an open studios event in not far from the cafe. Less driving through the hood. There were 2 cars of early 20's gals/guys driving crazy when we went. Of course we just let them pass but they did sound like they were partying. Yelling and hanging out the windows too… and this was 1pm in the afternoon on a Saturday. So yes you need to be careful.

Risk is relative.  Lisa does her flip whatever, Laura races cars, Donna goes to a brand new state....all those things would terrify me!

Out looking for a new phone.....mine died!

Laura you just need to make sure you aren't wearing the rival gang colors and you'll be OK. Wink

I've been going to the Woodlawn neighborhood for several  years now to attend the African Festival for the Arts. Never had a problem but I don't go walking around the neighborhood alone or at night. To be honest there seems to be more problems in the Loop festivals these days. Even streeterville had those gang of teens beating the crap out of people for their stuff. Granted I wouldn't recommend walking through Garfield Park.

We just had downpours....thankful for the rain...but I hate to admit storms terrify me...make it through breast cancer and pace the floors during storms...my anxiety is through the roof today.

Jackie...your post was so appropriate for me today....you seem to have a real knack at posting things that are so on target...thanks so much...

I am not brave on new adventures at all...

Susan --- bummer you need to search for a new phone...i really do not like to change phones since it takes me awhile to adjust to a new one.

    LauraGTO...yeah for you! ....

So wish I were closer and able to join the lunch gathering...

Well, it is calmer here now and I just took a half Xanax so hopefully I will settle down...it always relaxes me some to get on here and catch up with everyone (or at least try to.....moves fast sometimes:)

Jackie - Thanks for your daily posts!

Marsha - Thank goodness for Xanax...I think it's more harmful to be stressed out than it is to occasionally take a mild relaxer.

Lago - LOL! Yes...I would NEVER wear the colors black and gold in those areas! AND definately would NOT wear my engagement and wedding rings! LOL I'm surprised about the LOOP festivals, I always thought they were heavily policed!  : (  Regardless...zap is right - we all take our risks. Just depends how you want to "go out" of this world! LOL A fiery race car collision, a gang bullet, moving to a new state, beaten at a city festival? LOL LMBO!

    ++++++++++++++++++++

If I am the one with the oldest dx...do I get to be the IL Girl Mascot? Tongue out

Laura GTO....I vote for you to be the Mascot:)...yes thank goodness for Xanax ...I try hard not to take it during the day but usually end up taking at least a half...

Grandsons were just picked up by mommy....they were fun ...but they do tire me out....

Yeah...get to go to one of our favorite restaurants in a few....Kahuna's in Greenville...they have a gluten free menu which we need for DH...so I just eat what he eats...we are getting a Volcano..which is like the fried swirl potatoes you get a fairs....topped with sour cream, green onions and melted cheese...not the healthiest choice but it's what sounds good...

Laura I'm wearing my LE glove on the left. No worries about the wedding/engagement rings Tongue out
Yes you've earned the right to design the mascot. Go for it. BTW I'm too chicken to ride in fast cars. Speed scars me.

And don't laugh but I purposely didn't buy any bandannas and was careful of the color of the skull caps I bought when working out in the gym during chemo. My PT lives there and said there have been some gang territory issues in uptown. Didn't want to be caught at the gym wearing the wrong thing.

Lago - LOL Is any color safe these days! GEESH, girl!

And...I have been meaning to post a photo of my night sleeve...you have probably seen one, but if not, here's the fashion statement of the year (I am so "in" style Undecided):

Laura...go for it.  Susan....your last one would terrify me. In reality......I have done so many things, but think I am generally more timid at my age than I ever was ---  Remember that motto...or whatever it was....JUST DO IT, well that was how I was young.  I even managed to get a job using a huge machine I had never even seen.....but kept telling my employers that I could ace the thing blindfolded.

Now make me go into a store with electronics.....even only cell phones and I nearly throw  up.  I'm not mechanically minded for the stuff and I am clueless and they soon know it.

We just got a severe pour down and I think more is on the way.  Won't help to say I had plans.  Got caught out in it and had to take a shower and run a load of very wet clothes.  My goodness.....today is quite the adventure.  Think I'll go to Wal-Mart.

    Hugs, Jackie

Do they only come in blue? Guess it's better than more pink.

Jackie,  I thought of you yesterday as we pulled off of the Interstate at a little restaurant/gas station at the Centralia exit to make a bathroom pit stop on our way home from Sikeston, MO where we picked up my grandson.  On our way down in the morning, we stopped at a shoe store in Mount Vernon in a small outlet mall and I actually found a really cute pair of narrow shoes that fit!  We'll be heading back that way this next weekend to meet my son and the rest of the family and deliver Grant back to them.  I think that your area of the state is so beautiful in the summer time.

LauraGTO....I think the night sleeve is the beginning of a good mascot outfitEmbarassed

Wow it looks like quite a contraption....Hope it helps.'

Jackie...we had a lot of rain in a short time...just backwashed, cleaned & vacummed our pool last night and now it has floating leaves in it:(  fortunately I did not get caught out in it  But I am thankful for the rain...it did cool it off and may give the air conditioning unit alittle break.

PLEASE!  No more rain! There is so much flooding going on

Well, I have a brand new store I love -----Frys------------Appliances, gadgets and electronics.  I got a new phone but I saw some very cool dishwashers, washing machines and dryers.  I actually needed a land line and not a cell  We went to Downers Grove.  Anyone been to a Frys?  Definitely a great place to wander about on a Sunday afternoon. Jackie, I look at gadgets and ask very few questions as I too am losing some ground when it comes to tech.   You girls with younger sons are so lucky as these little guys really get this stuff.

Susan..sorry if I offended by saying I was glad for the rain....I agree no more downpours of rain..I do not like thunderstorms...but it has been super hot here and a little rain for the plants and such was good for our area just more rainfall than I would have liked but I did not get to control it. I do not wish tons of rain on anyone in flood areas...  I have never heard of a frys store...I love tech stuff...computers and such but the older I get the harder it is to learn anything new.

Holy crap, that's what an LE sleeve looks like? No wonder some airport security frowns...you could hide a bomb in that thing!!! Do they make a more "compact" model?? I'm so paranoid about LE these days.....ugh!!!

I vote Laura the "captain" not the mascot!!!! :0)

Another long day, we had a family picnic out at our family farm (the family farm is hard to explain.... No animals) we stayed too long but I had to make my rounds and hear over and over " how strong I am, and how proud they are of me and how they will pray every day"..... I couldn't even walk across the room....I just wanted to politely say a couple of times "I'm really just hoping to go get some ice cream real quick". LOL.... Just one "cancer free" day....that's what I want.

Mad.....interesting thing.  Because the one who "makes" the home usually is strong, a multi-tasker, along with all the other things.....people I think assume somehow that we can lick cancer.  Well, yes we can, but it was the one time in my life I DID NOT feel strong and I NEEDED to be allowed to have that feeling.  I always felt, sadly and in particular my husband, that people were not allowing me to have the fear, dread, agony and all the negative emotions that can come up when you have this diagnosis

I'm sure at some point the Rah-Rah, your so strong, helped.....but there is a period ( maybe while your still trying to accept it all ) where it just seems to set my teeth on edge.  I'm sure your family just wanted you to know they were concerned and cared -- but you wanted to enjoy a family picnic...in just the way you would if you did not have  this disease.

Anyway...just saw that and wanted to respond.  Have to shut our system down temporarily....so I'll be back with more later.

    Hugs, Jackie

    Hi ladies -

    Hope everyone is doing well!

Lots of stress at our house as everything is breaking and DH is stressing out about leaving for Sweden tomorrow.   Our A/C broke at home, the A/C at DH's office broke, my dishwasher is leaking and our boat lift broke over the weekend.  It was a hot night trying to sleep last night and it looks like I have another week of it as the A/C guys are so busy they don't know when they can come.  Looks like I will have to go to Florida to get cool!  lol.

zap - yes, the boy scout event is a big thing in Sweden.  We had neighbors from Sweden and they knew all about it too - they said that the King of Sweden is very involved.  So, should be a fun time.

madismommy - we are not staying on property at Disney.  We have done that twice and honestly, it is not for me.  We rent a condo off property for less money and tons more room - 2 bedrooms, kitchen, laundry room, living room, etc.  First time we stayed at All Star Music and hated it (felt like Motel 6) and last year we tried Wilderness (deluxe).  The resort was nice but I still felt like I was in a cramped, run down motel room.  The times we have rented a condo have been the best.   I am getting really excited as it is my favorite place too!  I am a touring expert and we never wait in any lines!

We have a family farm too - down in Charleston, Il.  No animals - just corn and soybeans!

Laura - congrats on 6 years!  I vote for captain too!

Lisa - zipline - awesome!  I would love to do that!

Wendy - I love Hawaii!  Haven't been in 14 years though (since kids).  I agree - the flight is just sooo long!  My son keeps asking to go but I don't think DD would survive that flight and I wonder if they would appreciate it.

    Thinking of you WendyTY!

    Have a great day everyone!
