Windy, windy, windy in Denver today.....definitely will be a two hand on the steering wheel on the highway to go meet Chrissy. The western Colorado mountains are due for snow tonight.....Weather is changing as it will be in the 50's and rain in Denver by tomorrow night....was in the high 70's yesterday.....

It was 37 degrees and frosty when I got up this morning. Time to put the summer clothes away.
0 -
WOW NM, that is quite nippy! Our highs are low 80's right now, and just purrrrrrfect weather. Our lowest temp lately was around 40. Glad I can still wear summer clothes here! SO glad you will be able to join us for the big partay tomorrow night!!! YAY....glad you are not having to work this weekend. Esp after the long hours last weekend, and your car breaking down. Love the check-in at the pearly gates, and the lampshades. The apple martini sounds yummy, will be the first time I will have tried one!
Lori, Love the Betty White quote.....SOOOOO true!!!! And duh, of course we can all give hugs to Chrissy......wonder how many Karen will actually give her....maybe just one big one from all of us! I know, I would have loved them all to have put lampshades on and taken a pic. Wouldn't that be priceless!!!'
Karen, be careful driving!!! And please give us a play-by-play on your meetup with Chrissy. I was supposed to meet up with her 2 times (in Shell Knob with Junie and then at the Atlanta airport with Stanzie), but neither time had worked out.

Well, starting Pau Hana a bit early! My mom and I started at 9:30 this morning, and got home after 4pm. T-I-R-E-D!!!! Bought a ton of clothes, and twice as much for her! But it is very exhausting as i have to keep track of which ones and which sizes she likes, as they get all mixed up, and then she tries them all on again. Found several really nice outfits for her, at a dress shoppe she loves. I was running around the shoppe so much, they wanted to hire me to work there! So nice she can still get out to do that, and she had a ball, but by the end she could barely think straight (me too), and it is in a neighboring town, so a long drive home. It started with me taking her to her hair dresser, as she got lost trying to get there by herself yesterday. So, now have my feet up, Pants is massaging them, by the pool, enjoying the nice breezes, and my HUGE apple martini!!!!
Bottomz Up!
Kathy

Joining you for that apple martini. Completely exhausted, planning to be in the HTL for just one, but it never seems to work that way! Just spent 2 1/2 hours with friends who came to visit and say hi. One is a nurse, ya know, sometimes I get really sick and tired of talking about breast cancer in general and my situation specifically. Sounds obnoxious cause I know people care but, WTF, let's talk about anything else for most of the time. Alright, done bitching and reminding myself I am lucky to have people who want to see me!
Very psyched for tomorrow's party! Trying to figure out how I can coordinate a lamp shade and my phillies cap! Cheers all! Am icing down my Miller Lite as I type, should be perfectly chilled, maybe I will sneak a breakfast beer in the hot tub before work tomorrow?!
Karen, can't wait to hear about your visit with Chrissy!0 -
Wow,I feel really odd here, 'cuase I'm not exhausted! Did a lot of stuff around the house today, and got in a little nap when I sat down to watch a TV program. Must have been the nap. Couldn't have been the walk with Sadie in the brisky breezy day!
Anyway, got some pics from vacay:
This night blooming cactus is right outside my cousins' garage door. It only blooms at night, and only for 1 night. My cousin got me up at 4:30 am to get this shot:

The woman in red is my cousin, Laura. The white dog in the water is one of her, Emma.

The big black furry one is Baxter:

Lions lounging in the habitat at the MGM Grand:

This van is INSIDE the Hoover Dam, in the generator room:
Another view of the generator room. This one is on the Nevada side, same as the one above.
This tunnel was planned into the building of the dam espressly for tours. It's decorated in Art Deco tile.
This is taken from the top of the dam, looking downstream with the new bypass bridge. The things that look like buildings with portholes on the sides are the spill ways that can be opened to prevent flooding.
And the memorial at the dam site:

Such nice pics, NM! Wish we could have had all our dogs in that water park, having fun! Looks like those dogs had a blast. GLAD you are NOT exhausted!!! I ran like an energizer bunny yesterday, so I guess it caught up with me today. In Hawaii, we have "Night Blooming Cereus" (sp?) that bloom like that and besides being in an upgright form, also climb over rock walls. Used to love driving by them at night, with my Grandma...she loved seeing them. Wonder if its the same as the one you took a pic of? Sounds like you had so much fun on your vacay!!!!!! Thanks for sharing all those pics with us! Drove over the dam, but did not do the tour, so its nice to see that!

NM: So very cool that you were able to get a picture of a flower that blooms SO infrequently!!!
Scuba_duchess: I'm right with you on the whole BC discussion thing. In my work and social circles, I often feel like the the BC survivor "poster child" and .. honestly...I really DON'T want to talk about it, But, you do, cause we're raised to be polite girls...right?
P or J, please bring me an Apple Martini (when you get a chance)

NM - pictures are great. Touring Hoover Dam was definitely a highlight for me, worth doing if you are in the neighborhood. I had a work conference in Vegas and am not a gambler, the tour of the dam was fascinating!
Oly - yes, being polite but starting to be more aggressive to redirect the conversation. I have kept folks up to date via email for any big stuff. Also asked DH to run interference for me (again politely)!
Just finally finished last physical therapy stretches for the day, time for a night cap. Pants/Jock, please make a double batch of the apple martinis, I will get in line behind Oly.
Cheers!0 -
Been raining here all day and chilly, 40 degrees. Praying that we can get through the mud in the morning and make it to the hospital for my endoscopy. Looking forward to that good sleep, but hoping they can get the IV in on first try! I have terrible veins and I am hydrating
.OMG Kathy.........a lampshade picture? Definately PRICELESS! And a dress shop wants to hire you? You should go for it............and put it on the list of the 1000 of other things you do! So sorry your mom got lost going to the hair dresser Kathy, maybe it's time for her to stop driving. My did got lost, not too long ago, and that is when his wife finally realized that he had to stop driving, as it was the police that brought him home, and he was only 76 (?) at the time. You are one AMAZING woman. 6 hrs later............are you still here? I'll join you in that foot massage and apple martini.
ScubZ, I'm sure your friends mean well, and for me personally, it doesn't bother me to talk about it. But for some gals, IT DOES. And if you don't want to talk about, you can say so! Doesn't have to sound mean or anything, just make a comment and then say I'd rather talk about something else, and then change the subject. Or be very non shelant in your answer, and change the subject.
NM, must have been a power a nap! Haven't had one in YEARS, but boy they sure do the trick. Love your photos! There was acutally a pooch pool? The Hoover Dam IS amazing, and you have a great picture of the new bridge. I was so scared to drive over it the first time, but then looking forward to view. Well, driving across it.............you can't see a darned thing! But the drive from AZ into NV, on the old road was very beautiful coming down into the dam and river. Have never done the tour.
Oly, not sure if I have welcomed you or not. If not, I apologize (cuz we're not allowed to say the "S" word) .............and welcome! I see you have met Pants and Jocks!
ScubZ...........no need to get in line for those apple martini's. We have plenty of Tattie Tenders here to take of us. Pants, Jocks, Hunk, Sugar, Candie and Skate (Junie named her).

Chrissy is truly an amazing, intuitive, wonderful, awesome person...she is sitting at my kitchen table trying to get on wifi, but for some reason it won't let her!!!! how frustrating....I have so enjoyed our little bit of time together...sure wish we had more time, but so greatful for our evening together.....one day a trip to Australia will have to make it on the agenda....going to go and read the posts from this afternoon and evening.....

HAPPY KERRY DAY!!!!
Let's get the party started, I am on the bus....stay tuned...Happy Birthday Kerry!!!! ♥

Jumping on that bus with you ladies (I guess we will go East to West this morning until we get the bus fully loaded (or us fully loaded)? Oh well, happy Friday to all.
Happy Birthday Kerry!0 -
Good morning, Loungettes! Very chilly and frosty morning here in Maine this morning. Outside temp is 37, inside is 53. The heat is set at 50 and still hasn't kicked in, thank goodness. Need to get oil into the tank before much longer. There's a skin of ice on the bucket of water on the deck. Got to get that stuff inside and put away for the winter.

Wahine-the pic I took was of a cactus, complete with thorns. I doubt it's the same thing you had in Hawaii, but hey, who knows?

Olygirl-Each blossom on that cactus lasts one night, but there have been several blossoms this summer. My cousin has been leaving for work at 4 am and has several pics of different blossoms. It's amazingly pretty in the moonlight, it kind of glows a little! I agree with you about the whole bc discussion thing. I am NOT a good bc survivor; I don't advertise the fact that I'm a survivor, I don't go around with pink stuff and pink ribbons all over me, and I don't go around pushing women into getting mammograms. I don't do fundraisors or walks or races. While the bc isn't a secret, it doesn't define my life anymore, and doesn't need to be the focus of every interaction I have with every one around me. I've gotten good at changing the subject. Asking something about the person talking is usually a good tactic. And Welcome to the Lounge! Sounds like the apple martini is pretty popular, I bet the tenders set up an Apple Martini Fountain pretty soon!

Scuba-I agree, the tour was great fun! In past visits to Vegas we have toured Red Rock Canyon and seen the wild burros and visited the tortoise sanctuary. The Sanctuary is really interesting even if you don't happen to see any of the tortises, lots of informational stuff, thermometers that show the air temp at 3 feet, 1 foot, ground level, 1 foot underground and 3 feet underground. Huge differences. One visit we spent an entire day at a water park that had a huge wave pool. Even took a haunted Las Vegas tour once! There is so much to do there. Oh, and you can gamble, too.
-Edit.jpg)

Goldie-The bad veins are a pain, aren't they? When I need an IV I tell them up front I'm a hard start and they have TWO tries. No IV in 2 tries, no procedure. Not going to go through the hour of sticking and half a dozen people trying again. The have the option of putting me to sleep with gas and starting the IV after I'm out, not my problem if they won't do it "because it takes too long and throws off our schedule." I actually told someone once that I didn't care one bit about their schedule. I am such a bad patient! That pool was not a doggy pool, it was the local public swimming pool, with areas for small children and older children. On the last day of the season they let the dogs come in. When that day was over they drained the pool and began the annual cleaning. My cousin and her husband take their dogs to 2 or 3 of these events every fall! So that's what a power nap does for you, I never knew! I didn't plan to take the nap, it just happened. Maybe I should let that happen more often!

Karen-A trip to Australia has been on my bucket list for years, not I have even more reason to go! I'm so glad you got to spend some time with Chrissy!

Juliet-Welcome to the Lounge, don't recall seeing you here before. If you have been in, please forgive my cancer brain, it's complicated by alcohol brain.

DorK-good morning, and lets get the party started!

We need a good Birthday Party Drink for the DOTD: The Happy Birthday Martini
1 oz Vodka
3/4 oz Raspberry Liqueur
1/4 oz Dark Creme de Cacao
1 oz MilkDirections
Add all ingredients to an ice-filled cocktail shaker, shake, and pour into a martini glass.

Lori, HOPE all goes well today, and they get the IV in on the first stick. Hoping the endoscopy goes well, and all is fine. Let us know how you are, when you get back home, ok?
Purrfect, NM, a Birthday DOTD, for Kerry!!!! YEs, the night blooming cereus is a cactus, and only blooms at night, certain times of the year, here is a pic from Hawaii I found.....

I apologize for the huge size....I kept resizing in the post, but it keeps showing up large!
Karen, so glad Chrissy got to come to your home! How special that is!!!!
The bus just picked me up, and some of you girlzzz are already on the bus, starting the PARTAY! We will pick up Lori in the afternoon, and should have everyone on board by then! Kerry, have a Happy BIrthday today....we all are thinking of you!!!
Hugs,
Kathy

Time to get the PARTAY Going!
I think the cactus at my cousin's house is different, it doesn't have as many "branches" for lack of a better word, and I don't see the big white thorns that were on the one in Vegas. I bet that one is beautiful when it's in bloom. Does it have more than one bloom at a time?
0 -
NM, I think the blooms open more than in the pic....I remember them looking more like the pic you posted, actually! Haven't seen them in years though, and always driving by, so not sure about thorns. And yes, I remember how pretty they were in bright moonlight, too! Awesome that your cousin has night-blooming cactus too!!! Might be many varieties. I love going through Red Rock Canyon too....just awesome. And I am always amazed at the bicyclists pedaling up the steep hills.
Partay! Partay! Partay! We need to remember our lampshades!!!!
0 -
I think I'll wear this one this time, since I recently did the stained glass classes..... (might be a bit heavy though!)
Maybe this one will be easier to wear....Yeah, this one is a better one for me.....

Karen, so glad you got to meet our Chrissy, even thought it was a short visit. I'm hoping Kathy and I can hook up. If we do, it will just be a short one too, just a few hours. But soooo worth it.
NM, glad the pooches got to play, non the less. I have been to Red Rock, it is beautiful. Western US is very beautiful country. Utah is another one. And yes "power nap". But it can only be like 15-20 minutes. If you sleep much longer, it doesn't seem to have the same affect. Well, for me at least. And I don't know if it would work if you set an alarm, seems like it just had to happen naturally. I think maybe if you were to fall asleep and then the phone ring, or a knock on the door. So not sure if you can actually "plan" for a power nap......maybe tho!

Kathy, sure glad you found the firemen. Even if not needed for a fire, certainly then can par-tay with us!
Oooooo, that Birthday Martini sure sounds yummy.
Thanks all for the well wishes, will check in when I can. Just hoping we can get out. I think DH is putting the quad in the back of the pick up, just for safe measures, and I'm thinking of packing an over night bag, just in case we have to spend the night at a hotel. It's just too dangerous to drive in the mud here, it's like driving on ice. It just cakes up on your wheels and away you go, slip sliding everywhere.

YIPPPEEEEE BALOONS!
HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY KERRY. I HOPE YOU CAN ENJOY IT. I KNOW YOUR MOM IS HAVING A FEW DOG BEERS IN YOUR HONOR TODAY. MAKE IT A GOOD DAY, AND HAVE A GREAT YEAR.
We all miss your mom. Love her so much!

good morning ladies, wow I cant beleive its been over 3 weeks since that rat bastard left me and my kids without any warning. Its been so emotional but very slowly feel myself getting stronger. Sure hope the courts are in my favor but I have to just leave it up to my lawyer at this point. I still havent moments of mourning everyday but also filled with disgust over the way he has treated me and that I wasnt able to see the forest through the trees....definetly in need of some serious councelling here to get my brain thinking straght again.
I see it is someones birthday, I dont beleive we have met you joined while I was getting kicked in the teeth by my X soooo Happy Birthday hope you have a great one.
thank you all for keeping me in your thoughts and prayers I have felt them all the way up here in Canada. It s our thanksgiving weekend so my parents and the kids dad are down for the weekend to spend it with me, very thankful to have a house full to keep my mind occupied.
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend and Pantz I am ready for the DOTD....wth

Hugs Kymn

Glad you are gradually getting back to feeling like "Kymn" again! We knew you were strong, and glad you are feeling a bit stronger every day. And calling him the "rat bastard"....yay....that is a step in the right direction!!!! Oh, and our Birthday Gal is Kerry, Junie's daughter. Since we all love and miss her mom sooooo much, and since Kerry is missing her being there for her birthday, we all wanted to celebrate with her. SO the partay bus should be picking you up shortly (tell your family you will be back later tonight!). Kerry hasn't posted on our thread, but does read the posts and is so thankful for all the love and caring we have for her mom. I am hoping someday she might want to post here with us, but she thinks of us all the time. So get your lampshade ready, Kymn!
Hoping your day is going well, Kerry. Get ready to PARTAY the night away!
Hugssssss (as Junie used to write),
Kathy

Kymn, Happy Happy Thanksgiving. Forget about the rat bustards in your life and celebrate. You are sounding better, it will take time and counseling does work wonders. So nice to see you!! Hang touch, little sista!
Raquel Leather Rock, tanks for spaining Kerry to Kymnie. I hope Kerry will talk to us and join us crazy chicks but will be patient and wait for her to be ready.
Kerry, thinking of you a lot and remembering your dear Mom on YOUR special day. As someone said, try to focus on the many happy memories you have of her. Did she tell you about the time she was caught by "Bob" with her bra on top of her clothes or about the time she was practicing for tornados and hanging in the closet and got caught yet again? Junie is a very special woman and she is with us all in spirit.
Now Pants, line em up, nearly time to ditch work, me made it through my first full time work week albeit not without likker!! CheerZ, and birthday toasts *clink clink*

The weather is absolutely gorgeous outside....a wonderful fall day.....Have a wonderful week-end. Karen
