Hi there!!! Haven't been on in a bit.. Went to Boston with my older DD.. we had an absolute BLAST!! Forgot about my disease and ate and shopped 'til we dropped.. Looked at some schools.. she loved one.. and we both love the city.. However, in the back of my mind I still think her being close may be better for us..

My Dad ran yesterday.. and my older kids went to watch... I went to Didier Farms with Gabs.. she LOVED it.. and went on her very first ride.. and almost no crying.. What a beautiful day..

Today is time with DS.. off to see a movie and have lunch with him..

Have thoroughly enjoyed my chemo break.. back to it on Wed.. :(

Need to add.. Thanks for the link to the TDM1 newscast! I was matched up with Stacy when I was diagnosed by ACS and I talk to her when I need motivation. It was nice to put a face to the voice.. I know her story well and hope to be running after 13 years too!!

    Morning!

Mak...glad you had such a nice visit to Boston. I love that city...so much to do and yes, the food! So good!

Susan...went to Long Grove yesterday with DH and you were right...half the stores are empty. Wow. We figured with the holiday it would be crowded but it was like a ghost town. We even decided not to eat there. Such a shame!

Went to Cantigny early yesterday and dragged DH around for almost 2 hours. Trees were gorgeous and he ALMOST had fun! He's not much of a tree guy...

How was lunch yesterday? No pics?

Wendy, we love Cantigney.  I think it is beautiful and the war museum is great!  Yes, Long Grove looks sad. We did eat at this Italian place (cannot recall the name) and it was great.  I ate cantaloupe there before the hoopla and it haunts me a bit.

Joan, I am going to pm you when I get home from school today. I am using my sub money to get a trip to Italy together for DH and me. This would not be for another year as I hear it is best to go in September or October.  I am thinking you are still in the travel agent business.  My funds are limited so I was hoping you could help me with the plans A number of years ago he planned a trip for us to Ireland and London and we had a blast.  With no language issues, he did it on his own using the internet.  I am feeling insecure about doing that for Italy.  We will talk later.

Good luck to ladies in treatment.  MakMak, it sounds like you have truly spent quality time with children.  I love Didier Farms myself!

    Take care,

    Susan

MakMak I want more details! This is my hometown you talking about. What did you guys do? Which schools did she like?

    Robo-MadMom good luck with treatment.

Wendy I too have noticed the trees look awesome right now

Lunch pictures… still waiting Tongue out I'm sure you gals had fun

Saw my PS yesterday and got all my bandages off… only to have them tape up those nips with more guaze. At least I'm no longer wrapped up in this stuff.  I just look like I'm a E cup right now. I see him again Wednesday, my BS on Friday and PT next week. Just when I thought I was winding down from appointments.

I get a little less sore and dropping about 1 lbs of fluid a day. Still need to lose 4+ lbs of fluid but at least I've lost about 1/2 of what I gained since Thursday. I'm still pretty swollen on my legs and very black (no blue) on my thighs too. I scared Robo with photos of them. It looks a lot worse than I feel.

It's anniversary weekend for us. That usually means Canard Rôti for 2 (roast duck with orange reduction) and the best Moules Marinières at Le Buchoun

Loving this weather. Just wish my nips could fit in my Tee shirts.

Rita -- I'm staring right above here where I'm typing and it says 667 pages and 20,000 results -- all from a cry in the wee morning hours.  I still at times find myself so astounded that just a few short years ago I only knew a couple of people who had cancer and it was years before.  Now it is everywhere and the rarity is definitely going the other way.

Wendy...so great to see you posting.  You have been quiet lately and I missed you.

Susan....ah, a trip to Italy. I think of it as such a romantic place and would love to go there.

I hope you are all going to have a fantastic day.  I'll see you later.

    Hugs, Jackie

we posted at the same time.  Happpppppy Anniversary week-end Lago.  The restaurant fare sounds delightfully yummy.  I like almost any La'Orange.

Marina - Your trip to Boston with the DD sounds perfect.  I do kind of miss the annual pumpkin farm visit with the kids.  My DD is going on friday with her boyfriend - maybe I should join them?  Not sure that's what they had planned. lol.  Glad Gabs had a fun time there.

Wendy - Sad to hear about Long Grove.  We used to go there during the holiday season just because it was such a neat place.  Haven't gone in years though.  Cantigny is one of my favorite places to go and walk around.  We went to a wedding there last year, which was beautiful.

Susan - After our Med. cruise, my DH dreams of going back to Italy one day, probably in the Sorrento/Positano area to rent a vacation home for a few weeks.  Financially, that's going to be quite a while though.  Maybe after my DD finishes college.  I would have loved more time in Florence.  I could have spent a lot more time just walking the streets and museums there.

Lago - Happy Anniversary!  The menu sounds delish!

Jackie - ITA about knowing so many more people with cancer these days.  Not counting the patients I know from work, the number of people in my personal life with cancer seems to be escalating at an alarming rate.  Some of it is my age, I'm sure, but it seems to be outpacing the norm for that even.  I found out last week that one of my old friends here in town was just diagnosed with an extremely aggressive brain cancer.  She was fine one day, then had extreme confusion the next day - to the point where they took  her to the ER thinking she was having a stroke.  That's when they diagnosed multiple tumors in her brain.  We're having a get-together this weekend of some of the old gang, and even though I'm also a cancer patient, I'm at a bit of a loss for what to say to her.  Her prognosis is not good, and it devastates me.  She's one of the kindest people I know, and it enrages me, again, that this disease continues to take such a toll.

Robo - If you really feel strongly about wanting scans done, then I think you should find an oncologist who is willing to either order them for you, or make you feel comfortable with their reasoning of why they don't think you need them.  I work in diagnostics, so my opinions are biased, but I think that if you really need that security of having a clean scan, and you are well informed and willing to accept the possibility of false findings (and the possible ramifications from them), then you should be able to have them.  Your insurance company may not necessarily agree though. :)  And with the cost of any scans these days, it's really a factor worth considering.

Shannon, meaning Ireland?  Adey I loved Ireland and I loved London.  We stayed in Bed and Breakfast in Ireland.  Many "stay at home moms" keep their home as a bed and breakfast.  My Dh is adorable but conservative with money, so the hotels we stayed in London (walk ups) may not be the ones you would want.  London is wonderful.  We just went to all the places people go when they visit.....London...(Shakepeare Theater, London Bridge, Buckingham Palace.......The British Museum...oh....I am excited for you just thinking about  it.  When we went to Ireland, we went to Dublin, Wexford, Waterford, Adare, Avoca. I loved the Ring of Kerry I have distant cousins that live there so the highlight of my trip was visitng them on their dairy farm.  The only hotel we stayed in Ireland was in Dublin...all the rest bed and breakfasts.  The latter are easy to find on the internet.

It is still so beautiful here,,,cannot get over the weather.  Hope all are well and safe and feeling okay!

Hello everyone.  I've been following along but just haven't posted in quite awhile.  To those of you that are newbies-Welcome to a great thread.  To those still in TX-hang in there-you can do it and you will feel better soon. To everyone else-Just plain ole HELLO!

Joan and anyone else curious or interested---I did go on Sept 23 for the first session of my 3D tattoos.  I am very happy with the results so far.  I have 2 more sessions to go.  It is a slow process.  My first session lasted 3 hours.  It took at least an hour to get the measurments/placements just right.  And the tattoo itself was nearly painless.  I felt nothing on the right side(cancer/lymph node side) and very little discomfort on my left side(prophy side).  I am glad that I finally made the decision to do it.

navyMom did you go locally to get tattoos? I know if I don't like the way the tattoos come out that my PS will do then I'm thinking of having a tattoo artist revised them.

Lago:  I went to a gal that specializes in cosmetic tattos----lips, eyebrows, eye liner and 3D nips.I I got her name right here on BCO from one of the reconstruction threads.  Kate Ciampi, Perfection Dermagraphics, 69 North Broadway, Des Plaines 60016.  The initial consultation is free. But $500 for the "set"  And because it was not done in a medical office, my insurance would not cover it.

    Hi All,

I never post but always read.  I am in Bloomington, same as Queen Rita.

I did 3D tatoos and love them.  They were done locally by a permanent makeup technician.  Its a great alternative.  After talking to my MO, who says most all nipples flatten out, I decided it was the route for me. Kate is highly recommended and once was the head of the permanent makeup society.

I just had implant replacement, reconstruction revision, as my previous implants were too big.  The PS in Peoria used previous scars just to the edge of the tatoo.  Finally after 2 years I am pain free.

All the best to each of you.

Tanyar.....glad to see you here.  Jenn....keep up the good work.  Saying hi to everyone else as well.  Like many, I had only lumpectomy and fortunately it was in a spot that basically does not even show -- but I enjoy hearing how each of you deal with the reconstruction issues.  I'm sure part is pure admiration.  It seems like so much more information that you have to gather together.

Soggy day outside after yesterdays and last nights rain.  Hopefully we are done with rain for a bit now.

Hope you all have a fantastic day.

    Hugs, Jackie

Hi Tanyar - Always nice to see someone delurk.

I had my first fill 2 days ago.  I did this many times before with my cancer side with little discomfort, but that was years ago and I was definitely a little nervous - esp. since I was going right to work afterwards.  It turned out fine, I definitely felt the pressure and a bit of soreness, but a couple of ibuprofen helped that.  It's weird, but even my PS thought I looked way bigger already than you'd expect for only having 240cc total in there.  I stopped wearing my little filler pad even.  It is nice having a bit o'boob on that side again.  Not that I miss that breast, particularly, but I don't like the feeling of being unbalanced.  It's totally a mental thing, but it bugged me.  I joked to my  husband about walking in circles... ;)

A friend is having a fundraising day for BC at her hair salon (Avici) in Schaumburg this Sunday.  Drawings, pink extensions, etc...  I'm going to stop by with my DD, but can't stay very long.  It's just so nice to see all these people who care and are trying to help in whatever way they can.  Don't go if you're pink-phobic.  I expect we'll be GLOWING pink by the time we leave.  Maybe I'll get one of the pink zebra striped extensions put in.  Hah!

    Have a great day, everyone!

    Happy Thursday everyone

Wanted to share with the group a recommendation for your next night out mom, sisters, friends etc.  Last night a group of friends from high school and I went to see "Love, Loss and What I Wore".  Its at Water Tower Place. Its based off a book, and written by Nora Ephron and her sister Delia.  Tickets are discounted this month I believe

NavyMom... thanks for the update on your 3D tatoos.  Glad you are so happy with the them. After talking to my BS and PS again about it, I have definitely decided to go that route.  My PS has an aesthetician on staff that does them in office so they will be covered.  Just have to find time to do it.

Tanyar... welcome and thanks for posting.  Hope that you check in again soon.  Well, the weather has certainly changed.  I may have to break down and put the sandals away. Frown

Robo, how cool that you are staying downtown during TX.  Talk about making the best of a difficult situation.  Maybe  some room service?  Would a family member be with you during this?

I subbed today and it was a nightmare.  Have any of you ever seen this reality TV show about nannies who come in and straighten out families?  Honestly, I had a child that could be in it.  I actually was so sad for the kid (and his regular teacher)  because  this child was just so challenged behaviorally and we are talking primary grades!  But I learned something.  These teachers in the younger grades work so hard and are so dedicated.  I am sure the parents of the other kids are going  beserk, but these teachers carry on day in and day out (with some R and R with sub).

So hope all are doing well.  I just love this season.  It is just so pretty.
