Laugh at yourself and at life.
Not in the spirit of derision or whining self-pity,
but as a remedy, a miracle drug, that will ease your pain,
cure your depression, and help you to put in perspective
that seemingly terrible defeat and worry with laughter at your predicaments,
thus freeing your mind to think clearly toward the solution that is certain to come.
    Never take yourself too seriously.

Robo - I do have kids, but I totally sympathize.  I've always said that if I was a teacher, I'd end up getting arrested for duct taping all of them to their seats.  (j/k).  I have HUGE respect for people who have the patience to teach anyone from K through 12.

Corinne - I heard a radio commercial for that show and I'm dying to see it with my DD.  Thanks for the heads-up about the discount tix.

I'm pretty sold on getting the 3D tatts when I'm ready for my nip.  I'm hoping my exchange surgery will be my last.  I'd rather get a sharpie and draw one on than do another (albeit short) surgery to make one.

I always did like that song, One Headlight

Rene I like that song too. Nipple surgery is pretty easy. Remember I had revision to lefty (pocket work where they actually had to remove the implant) and lots of fat transfer. That's why this surgery was kind of a PITA. The nipple areas isn't sore at all because I'm pretty numb there.

Looks like I'm back in PT for my car accident 3X a week for the next 2 week. Yell Really annoyed about that.

Navymom thanks for the info. Who knows I might need to touch up or if the nipples go flat some 3D tat magic!

So glad this week is over. Too many early appointments. At least next week I don't have anything before 7:45. Today I got my port flushed and saw my BS. Everything looks good. Don't have to see him for another year.

I had my chemo nurse flush my port. Painless and I didn't even use Emla cream. She's such a sweetie. Nice to see her again too. It was  a bit creepy going back to the chemo room before it was light out. Reminded me of that  creepy feeling you get just before chemo. Yuk. (My first chemo was Oct 5th last year).  I'm ready to keep that memory buried for a while.

Have a great weekend everyone. Looks like a nice fall one. Can't wait for my mussels and duck tomorrow.

Robo I think it's too soon for our 2nd date. I still have to wrap these long dongs up with lots of gauze. You saw pictures. I almost feel like the obnoxious mother showing photos of her kids… but the kids are much cuter Tongue out

3-D tats??????!!!!!! I am so curious!  Do I need to put on my 3d glasses when I go into the Starbucks washroom to view them? Embarassed

Hope this finds you all well and happy. Edited to say Connie, I call you the world winner.  I can't even try.

Lago - I had the nipple recon and areola graft on my right MX side years ago.  It's more the going through one more surgery that I'm averse to, not so much the discomfort.  I've had enough already and just want to be done.  That right nipple has gone a bit flat, but I'm actually glad.  I like to go bra-less as often as possible but I'm uncomfortable flashing the headlights.

I get that chemo deja-vu every time I have my zometa infusion done (in the same rooms). Fortunately, it doesn't last long.

Mussels and duck?  Sounds yummy!  Where are you going?

Rene I guess missed my earlier post. We are celebrating our 17th anniversary here: http://www.lebouchonofchicago.com/ Both the duck for 2 and the mussels are, well you know. Also I worked for the owner when I was a waitress way back when I was in grads school in the mid 80's. Fun seeing him there the first time we went. I was teasing him about this waitress he used to chase around… now his wife and had 3 kids.

    Hi ladies -

Just checking in.  I haven't been on in awhile so am several pages behind.  I hope everyone is doing well.

I never got a nipple or a tattoo.  Because I had rads, I was told a nipple would probably flatten out.

Susan - no idea how I got that score!

Supernanny used to be one of our favorite shows - my kids loved watching the out of control kids.  I always like watching how the nanny could really turn these kids around.  I always wondered if things reverted back after she left.   I have the utmost respect for teachers and nannies.

DS going to his first homecoming tomorrow.  Sniff, sniff.....

    Have a great weekend everyone!

I am considering getting a new Med Oncoologist.  I am looking for one that specializes in BC and is knowledgable regarding current TX and research.  Please PM me if you know of such a being.  My current MO is a disappointment--I know, seems strange that after 2+years of care, I am suddenly not feeling very confident that I am in good hands.  Thanks in advance.

Navy, can you identify what it is that makes you uncertain about your onc (bed side, follow-up, personality, or maybe a question on his/her knowldge on what is the latest on BC).   That could help us know better what you are needing.  Is your onc one who treats all cancer?  If so, I can see why you would like one who is an expert on BC.  I think it is great to seek out alternatives no matter how time has passed dealing with a troublesome situation.

Yes, the weather is great.  We went to Glen Ellyn to have pizza and pasta with the grandchildren and it so reminded me of Halloween night...windy and just kinda wild out.   I am getting all my stuff out and I just love Halloween.

Connie...Homecoming...good grief.  He is growing up.

I may have put these here before but sometimes even something that seems famaliar to me also seems a little new too:

*17 most important things to remember in life*

    1. Never give up on anybody;miracles happen everyday.

2.Be brave even if your not, pretend to be. No one can tell the difference.

    3. Think big thoughts, relish small pleasures.

    4. Learn to listen. Oppurtunity sometimes knocks very softly.

    5. Never deprive someone of hope, it might be all they have.

    6. Strive for excellence, not perfection.

    7. Don't waste time greiving over past mistakes. Learn from them and move on.

    8. When someone hugs you let them be the first to let go.

    9. Never cut what can be untied.

    10. Don't expect life to be fair.

    11. Remember:Success comes to the one that acts first.

    12. Never waste an oppurtunity to tell someone you love them.

    13. Remember that nobody makes it alone. Have a greatful heart and be quick to acknowledge those who help you.

    14. Never underestimate the power of a kind word or deed.

    15. Laugh alot.A good sense of humor cures almost all of life's ills.

    16. Don't miss the magic of the moment by focusing on whats to come.

    17. Watch for big problems. They disguise big oppurtunities.

Yes Robo called to ask if I could come out and play yesterday. We had a fun… Pasta, Ice cream and a really hot waiter!

Note to self: when trying to drop a few pounds do not go out and hang with someone in treatment. Tongue out OK I'm off to do my power walk (don't think I'm allowed to aggressively swing arms yet though). Work of yesterday's ice cream cone.

I may have to reschedule my exchange surgery to occur two days before Thanksgiving.  I won't be cooking this year....   do you think I'll be ready to spend an afternoon sitting up and doing things, or will I still be recovering?  Since I'm not cooking, I'm feeling like I can probably handle the surgery, and still do Maggiano's for Thanksgiving, at a minimum.  We don't cook unless relatives visit us... it's a big meal to pull off for the six of us........

LisaMomOfFour it was the fat transfer and the anesthesia that was the issue for me after exchange. Donor sites were sore and I was really nausiuos last time on the anesthesia (They solved it this time). You'll be swollen and you might not be able to eat as much as normally. Check with what your PS says too. S/he s hould know you by now.

I was totally sick from the morphine drip for about 24 hours after my BMX.  Once I convinced them to let me have vicodin (which meant they had to pull the morphine drip, which I really wanted them to do ASAP) I was much better.   So I'm hopeful that this will be a pretty easy surgery?  No fat grafting or anything like that, so just the exchange, that's it.  My PS said two weeks to get back to everything, I expect to be able to work from home within a day or two, since my job isn't physical in any way, except carrying my laptop around!

My other choice is to have the surgery on the 11th, but then travel to California for a business trip on the 14th, and that doesn't seem very wise.......     Skipping the business trip is certainly an option, but for a lot of reasons not worth going into here, I really need to be on this particular trip......

Happy rainy Sunday to all. Hope everyone is doing well. Well it looks like fall is really here to stay with this cooler weather and rain. Soon winter will be here. So not looking forward to this weather change.

I have a favor to ask all of you, my dear sweet 85 yr old mil is very sick and now she is going to have open heart surgery next week. Could you please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. I have been living at the hospital with her and I know that prayers in numbers will work. She is a very young 85 who likes to party and live life. This is so hard for me to see her like this.

I think of all of you even if I am not posting. I do read often when I can. I will be sending out an email soon regarding the holiday party which is under way. I am soooo excited to see everyone there. Hoping you all can come.

Just a quick hello to all. Hope everyone is enjoying life and having fun. Remember life is to short not to enjoy. I am off to the showers now and then back to the hospital.

    Have a wonderful day.

BJ sorry about MIL. Please know I will be thinking of her. IMO if they are doing this surgery on her at her age they expect her to improve. Doctors have ratings too. Believe it or not there are many top surgeons that will refuse to operate if the risk is too high. The fact that this is a green light is a great sign.

    Waving HI to all.

Bj....many prayers.  I side with Lago totally.  The risk of not doing a surgical intervention must be far greater.  Also -- if she is a "young 85" her overall attitude will be of high optimism which is I believe a major factor in having a good positive outcome.

Saying hi to all and wishing you all a good day without too many distractions, bad weather, or  anything bothersome.

    Hugs, Jackie

BJ...prayers going out for mil throughout the week.  YOu are such a great dil. You have so much  going on, so be sure to take good care of yourself.  Lay out those  jammies for an early bedtime and keep eating properly so you stay well enough to care for her.

Hi there!  Been reading but can't post now as I had an encounter with a knife on Fri and it won! Ten stiches in my left index finger... Tried Emend this week and it made me feel even worse so just have to put up with two days of nausea... Te most unexpected event is I'm losing my hair.. something my Onc still promises won't happen.. it's tingling and falling out.. very upsetting!!! Scan in three weeks so then we see if this stuff is at least working... ugh!!

Oh no not the hair. I love your short hair. Tell you onc to make it stop. Emend made me all spacey too, especially my eyesight but didn't get nauseous from it.

I too have a scar on my left index finger from a knife fight 2-3 years ago. I remember it well. I swear I rather bleed to death then go through emergency.  BTW it's a little numb.

    Hi Ladies,

My family and I took part in the Making Strides for Breast cancer today in Libertyville.  It was raining in the beginning but cleared up nicely.  We had about 1000 people there and enjoyed dancing and talking to everyone.  The local cheer leaders did a great job of cheering us on to complete the 5 miles.  I felt blessed to be with such fantatic people including many survivors.   We took a picture and there must have be 60 of us there.  I was sponsored by PMI Sports and they supplied the shirts and lots of good food. We had over 100 in just our group.  It was truly a fantastic day!

Nancy....I'm sure we all thank you for the representation in Libertyville.  So many women here go and do what they can to help everyone who has this disease.  Won't it be wonderful when people don't have to do this anymore   It is becoming so prevalent now and touching the lives of some many more people than it used to that I keep hoping the push to find the answers will

    Morning....only 36 on my deck this am...yikes!

Mak....so sorry about your finger! Ouch! I remember the second day we were in this house I was using one of those mandolin veggie slicers and wasn't paying attention...took the top of my thumb off. And didn't know where the hospital was! Fun times that morning. Very upsetting about your hair...maybe just thinning this time around?

IllinoisNancy....thanks for the walk! Sounds like it was lots of fun!

    Rene...just thinking....any trips planned?

BJ....prayers for MIL going out today. Please take care of yourself too!

Jackie...don't mind the cool temps but hate thinking about snow as I heard somewhere it is going to be another very snowy season for us. BTW...I read a quote yesterday and maybe you have ready posted this but I love it...hope you don't mind me posting one...

BJ-Best of luck to your MIL.  My FIL is 80 and just went through heart surgery this summer.  It has been a slow recovery, but he is living on his own and feeling better each day.  I do go to all of his appointments now.  Someone just has to be there to Hear what the Doctor is saying since FIL doesn't hear well(even with hearing aides for both ears)  MIL passed away this past April and believe that having heart surgery on a "broken heart" really took a toll on him. But hoping that better days are ahead.

Teach me to do the best I can To help and cheer my fellowman; Teach me to lose my selfish need, And glory in the larger deed, Which smothers the road and lights the day, For all who chance to come my way.
