Illinois ladies facing bc

Welcome, lemondrop. So glad that you found us while you are just getting started down this road. You will find a lot of support here. I am sure that you are overwhelmed right ow with doctor appointments, tests, and big decisions. I am out in the far NW suburbs also and it was my daughter who insisted that I get my butt down to NW and see Dr. Hansen who is strictly a breast surgeon and very experienced. I can't say that I am in luv with the "gate keepers" there, but once you get past them... You will begin to relax knowing that you are in the hands of experts. I still see her every 6 months and actually look forward to it. PM me if you want to talk.
I know that I am probably not the only one a little uneasy with the Maggie Daley wake and funeral so much in the forefront of local news. She was such a role model for anyone going through this disease. A CURE, please.
I think the sun is supposed to come out later. I am headed to the health club right after church, then home to finish a knitting project while watching the Bears game with my DH. Have a great Sunday!0 -
lemondrop1967 I 'm so sorry you had to join us but of course you will love this group. The waiting is the worst. I too had a big tumor (6.5 cm combo of IDC & DCIS). It ended up that the invasive part was only 5.5cm. Actually before the MRI they even thought my tumor was 7cm! You do get more accurate info after surgery.
I don't know exactly what the first BS told you but ILC isn't always treated the same way as IDC from what I have read. I think it's good that you are getting a 2nd opinion at one of the top teaching/research hospitals in Chicago. Northwestern is rated very highly. (I went to one of the top places but Northwestern would have been the first place I would have checked out if I wasn't happy with my treatment plan).
I will say wanted it out ASAP. Thing is you have a grade 1 cancer which means it's slow growing. Even if you had a fast growing like mine you will still be ok with the wait. My mammo/us was June 11, 2010 and I didn't have my surgery till August 31st 2010. Between getting test and results as well as scheduling surgery it took that long and I'm doing great. As others will tell you this is the worst part. I know I felt better after surgery.
Do come hear often. The gals here are great with support and can lead you to information so you can ask your doctors questions.
hugs

Lemondrop, welcome. You are doing everything right! Of course you are feeling like a sitting duck, just waiting, but doctors know how much time is too much time to wait. Waiting is horrid, but they need to figure out the best treatment so they can be aggressive and they do know how much is too much time to wait. HUG those kids and tell them that their mom is smart and has found the best doctors to make her well again. If any are showing tension and you respect their school personnel, confide in a teacher to keep vigil. I am a former teacher and I am sorry to say that breast cancer is now so common that there are many kids coping with their worries and mom's distractions. On the other hand, many kids do just fine without a place or person to vent to.

Lemon -- so sorry you need to join our home away from home, but we welcome you. Susan/Zap is quite right. I think all of us have heard that the cancers are usually there for quite some time before discovery, and though we probably all see it as a horrible monstrosity that needs to be gotten rid of yesterday, the more prudent approach of gathering as much info as you can is better. Your Dr's really do know that you have time to make a factual decision with them, and like my Dr. are probably very supportive about it.
I hope you can take a few deep breaths when you are feeling overwhelmed -- get a nice mental picture of being in a meadow full of wild flowers and a warm sun, while you are just drifting in a serene calm fashion, and at that time knowing everything will work out. I know....easier said than done, but it is something nice to do while you try to turn off the unpleasant sensations and worry. Hopefully you can focus on something else for a while.
Such good information on the teacher's viewpoint side, Zap. Why we need you here.
I'm off to feed my feral cats. See you all later.
Hugs, Jackie

Hi Lisa/Lemondrop... Welcome... you will definitely find support and comfort here. You are at the most emotional part of this.... the beginning is so scary. I hope you get some quick answers from your team at Northwestern. Hugs!

Hi Lemondrop Lisa, there will be lots of info coming your way and since I didnt see anyone mention it yet, take a friend with you to all appointments so that while you are saying WHAT? they are writing the information down. Normally you will have a team meeting with the surgeon and his crew. Start a journal to write down your questions. You know "the only dumb question is the one that's NOT asked." And know you can always ask anything here. Because we have been there and we care. : )

Good morning. Crossing my dreary gray fingers that most of the rain is gone. We could have some snow showers today, but I don't think anything of any lasting quality.
Saying a big hi to all and hoping you have a really good day....and hopefully decent weather.See you all later.
Hugs, Jackie

I'm doing my best to make it on Saturday. My nanny's father is gravely ill with advanced colon cancer and is in the hospital this week. I don't want to drag her away from her dad to drive my kids around.
My backup sitter ( a seventeen year old athlete!) had hip surgery yesterday.
Keep you all posted. I'm hoping to pull it off, somehow, but will be dicey until the last minute.

Hey Gals! Just popping in. I have had so much reading to catch up on! Welcome to the newbies! Sorry you have to join us but glad you found this group of wonderful ladies to hang with. I am trying to attend on Saturday but not sure I can yet. I have been out of town the past few weekends and I have a ton to do since we moved a few weeks ago. I am feeling super behind with the holidays. I will let you know if I can make it.
Jenn: only one more TC! I will be so happy when you are done! I hope you are feeling OK.
Robo: How are you?

Morning! Brrrrrr.....22 on my deck!
Just a quick driveby....talked with BJ a couple of times a d told her not to worry about the party but you know our Hostess with the Mostess! The "General" was dictating orders to me last nite after she was finally admitted after hours in the ER....so you know she's gonna be fine! LOL! Wonder how she'll react to being called the General......you know we all love you BJ!
I also love how u gals reach out for driving on Saturday...such sweet girls!
If u have some time today could you send a few prayers out for DH's niece? She's having lumpectomy on one side and a stereotactic on the other side today. Thx!
Bundle up!0 -
"I just want ta celebrate!" Good song lago and it did make me smile but so not feeling it. Realized that I cant even sign my Christmas cards this year. Tried to get them printed but no luck, they have wavy sides and cant be put in the machine. : ( My hands feel like they have blown up to clown sized. Yesterday I went into my first "poor me" tirade. I really try not to go to the dark side, but hearing about several deaths due to bc put me on the skids. I soooo need to be there saturday. But, the class ends at 3. Big hugs to those who are going. I will be back shortly with a better attitude.....Love ya, Onward

Good morning all!

Onward you could have a rubber stamp made of your signature. Then any one can "sign" them for you. I'm really going to miss you Saturday. Just know we will be thinking of you.
