Violet is beautiful! Zap - she is a tough Illinois girl! Praying for a long healthy life for Violet.
Yay Katie!
Lago - I would absolutely rant too.
Ugh! I hadn't thought about dual menopause. Huge bummer. I may be in the boat too. Boo.
WooHoo - tomorrow's Friday!0 -
Zap - Violet is gorgeous!!!
Katie - so glad you have a decision that you feel good about.
Lago/Robo, Next time I will let you guys know ahead of time. My brother cancelled on me pretty last minute, so I didn't think about it this week.
Joan, I am sure that there are some great surgeons at NW. If you are interested in looking outside of NW, my dad had great care with Dr. Romeo at Rush for some pretty severe back issues, including stenosis.
So, 3 chemos down, 5 to go. Everything went smoothly yesterday. Glad I took the train yesterday as I was falling asleep on the way home (I don't think it was the chemo, just my crazy schedule!). Going to work today but leaving early. Found out last night (late!) that DH will miss the last flight home tonight, so even if he takes first flight Saturday, he won't be home till around 1:00. Ugh. Kids are loaded with activities tomorrow morning, and I was counting on splitting those with him. Hoping to get my mom to take skating for DD1, so I can take DD2 to a birthday party. DH should be home in time to take DS to late hockey because I will be wiped by then, but bakc up plan is my dad. So, I am covered, but it stresses me out when plans change last minute when it comes to set stuff like kids activities.
Happy Friday to all -- L

Double menopause Yes that does suck but from what I have read the further you are away from menopause (younger) the more severe your SE might be going into chemo-pause. This could me that the 2nd time around won't be as bad. Ask your onc/gyno about that.
Joan I can understand how you would want to stay in the same system but if you do check out Rush I too can say I'm quite happy with my care there (although the support staff isn't always the greatest the doctors and nurses have been quite good). That being said my husband has a great orthopedic surgeon(sports medicine is his thing). He's out Weiss Hospital. Dr. Preston Wolin 773-248-4150
My lashes are still much thinner but they're OK. My brows are even thinner… thinner than when on chemo. When they fell out 5 weeks post chemo the grew back pretty full but then started to fall out again. My onc said it was still from chemo. I'm now thinking its from the Anastrozole. I see my onc's NP in April. I'll see what she has to say about it.
Anybody who's over a year out from chemo still having fluid retention issues. I fear this too might be from meno/chemo-pause. I can gain 1-3 lbs over night depending on how salty my food was previous day.
OK off to powerwalk. It looks awesome out.

Wow !!! those pj's would have been perfect for me during chemo. Well, I had mine all through winter and actually for that yr. and a portion of the next I was frozen all the time. I was allowed to wear ( horrors ) sweats to work....my bosses were pretty kind....but my temp. does much better now. Mild hot flashes so quite tolerable -- probably just helps keep my temp up to where it should be.
Joan....hate hearing about the bone issues. All of it. I sure hope you are able to find something you are comfortable with to take care of it. Very much so to on the compression, pinched nerves. So often people I know have had that said it is not just pain all the time but often excruciating pain. So.....hopefully you will find a great Dr. to help you lessen this to a tolerable level.
Lemon....thinking about you too. Glad you only have 5 chemo's left.
See you all later.
Hugs, Jackie

Good Morning ladies. Last night I was watching Greys Anatomy and they were doing surgery on a breast cancer patient to TRANSPLANT LYMP NODES due to her LYMPEDEMA. Her arms were scary big. Anybody else see it?
Joan, sorry about needing to even think of another surgery. : (
Zap, what a cutie.

I am happy Katie that you made your decision. I too love your avatar. You are so beautiful.
I am making a terrarium today.....feel like getting my hands in some dirt
And of course it is a terrarium filled with violets. I am using this opportunity to learn how to post pictures and will take a picture of it and then post it here for you. I know.......not the most important thing you really need right now....but bear with me!It is too nice out for my comfort. This just isn't natural!
Tell me not to be paranoid. I made plans to go to San Francisco without trip cancellation insurance and now I hear they are overdue for an earthquake.
Have a fun day today. I cannot believe it is Friday already and we face another weekend. Whew!

Thanks ladies thats sweet
i didnt realize i didnt have a picture until yesterday haha. I miss my hair so much
Im feeling better now that the decision is made, my pre op is tonight.. Nervous. And the nightmares keep coming.. Last nightt i dreamed first that i had a uniboob, and then that the expander was migrating under my skin and. Moving all over the place, wtf? So strange.
Terrariums are so cool, id love to see pictures!0 -
Like the other comments--I am sure this feels like a big weight off of your shoulders Katie. Having a plan in place is key to being able to move forward. Love your picture too.
Today is beautiful. Woke up early and did a 5 mile run with hubs and SIL today. We were done in about an hr and I was still able to get to work ahead of time. The kids having the day off had something to do with it--no helping with breakfast, making sure everyone is dressed etc.
I hope everyone has relaxing weekend plans. I am going out for a wine tasting and dinner tomorrow and another one on Sunday. Saturday is a wine tasting at a wine retailer in Park Ridge with other parents from my kids school and Sunday I am going over to my brothers as he got back from Napa with waaaaay too many bottles of wine and is trying to share some. Granted I am limiting myself to a glass each night. Damnit.

lisak7290 The port was weird for a while but eventually I got used to it. I've had mine now for 1.5 years and almost never feel it.
Buddy I see DonnaDio posting all the time on Facebook. She sounds like she's loving AZ.
Katie, even if the expanders did move around, they can fix that at exchange
No need to worry about uniboob. You are going to a top PS. 0 -
Uniboob is a funny word.... One I would have never been exposed to in my past life. Lol
Happy Saturday ladies!!
Adey, are you going on Friday??? Train?0 -

Happy Saturday to All!!! It is a beautiful day out there. Perfect for a walk. I can't belive how behind I was in reading all your posts. I am interested in all the hair stories - mine took a while to grow back after chemo and was very curly for a long time. Now I am concerned that it is getting thinner on top - probably due to Arimidex or maybe age :-( Am taking mega doses of Biotin and appling rosemary oil. Iron was a little low so my onc put me on iron supplements for a while. Also taking Vitamin D supplements.
0 -
Lol....Lago makes a fabulous social director!!!
Char....that stinks that you think it's thinning on top, BOO!!! does your onc think so too? Why must BC take so much from us?0 -
Char, so hard to know what is age-related and what is med-related. Fortunately I have very thick hair to begin with but it is thinning. You can get shape with a good cut.
0 -
Char I think I told you a few years before diagnosis my hair started to recede. Yeah most women get hot flashed when they are peri-menopausal I got hair receding. Anyway I used Minoxidil and got some growth but mostly the receding slowed. After chemo a lot of what I lost came back. I started using women's Minoxidil after chemo again (once a day). So far I think I'm holding on to it. March 1st will make 1 year on the estrogen sucking drug (Anastrozole).
Me a social director. Too funny.
BTW I thought if you got the flu shot you wouldn't get the flu. My husband has it.

I think most anyone can get any thing that they get a shot for....flu, pneumonia, etc.....just that it will not be as harsh or have as long a duration.
